who: Taako & whoever wants in on this
what: Fighting monsters in a tunnel basically counts as a dungeon crawl, right?
when: Late March
where: Those tunnels!!
warnings: Uh, violence, eldritch horrors maybe, he's got some weird spells
notes: If you wanna do something that doesn't involve fighting hmu at
batsecretary!!
[Regardless of who asks, Taako will maintain that he had a shitty cleric back home, but suddenly being without one at all is making him appreciate Merle way more than he ever did. Not having a team to rely on makes battle a lot more uncertain; there's no Magnus to take the brunt of the damage, no Merle to heal or buff them as needed, no helpful NPC to swoop in and save the day.
But a threat to the city means a threat to him, so he's signed up to help cull the creatures in the tunnels. He needs the experience, too, if he's going to level up and figure out a spell strong enough to get him home.
Really though he's just hoping that these creatures are easy enough to dispatch, and mostly he's right. Compared to some of the shit he's had to put up with, over-sized lizards aren't particularly scary, nor particularly threatening, though the amount of them is concerning. Luckily he has a lot of area of effect spells.
In the interest of not immediately running out of spell slots, he starts with low level spells and his single attack cantrip, which results in a lot of frozen creatures leaving a trail behind him, although a few of them have also been on the receiving end of a magic missile, leaving them just straight up dead.
Eventually he moves on to stronger shit: a large sphere of fire moves through the tunnels, directed by Taako, held still when he comes across any allies so that they can move around it, and he'll encourage people to stick with him, since he's used to fighting in groups. At some point, a little troupe of water elementals follow after him, attacking any of the creatures that get too close.
It starts to take it's toll, though, both the spellcasting and the attacks that the creatures manage to get in. His clothes are torn and bloody, and he leans a little more heavily on the Umbra Staff at some points, just needing to take a breather. Finally, he realizes it's worth spending two spell slots on fixing himself up, and waits until he comes across a large group of the lizards.
Sleep knocks them unconscious, and Taako kneels down in the middle of them, reaching out with a hand wreathed in shadow. When he touches the creatures, they awaken for a very brief struggle, before they just... die. Taako's wounds knit themselves back together, he sits up a little straighter, and moves on to the next one and the next one until they're all dead.
And then he gets back to work.]

It shouldn't bother them.
[ If it does, they aren't worth Taako's time, or anyone's. ]
no subject
[He was asking to be a jerk, but there is a point in here somewhere.
(Also that's not entirely true, he's just not going to admit it).]
I'm just saying, most times someone asks a question like that, they're looking for reassurance.
no subject
[ This is the only time he gets to use this excuse. ]
no subject
So is he! If only he could remember that.]Then you just got a great social tip from good old Taako. [He grins.] I'm changing the fucking world here, one socially inept alien at a time.
[Why is he like this.]
no subject
Speaking of socially inept. ]
My name is Kal, by the way.
no subject
It's a fucking pleasure, Kal.
[One day he'll take something seriously.]
Is this like, a secret thing, by the way? The whole... [He just kind of gestures at Clark, assuming that sums up the alien thing.] Thing? Cause I'm cool to keep it, you just gotta warn me.
no subject
[ This is the first person who hasn't recognised him and offered to keep his secret pre-emptively.
Taako, you're a real friend. ]
Yes.
no subject
[It doesn't really bother him one way or another, it's not like he's going around gossiping, so if it's what Kal would prefer, then sure.
Also he's pretty good at keeping secrets, that helps.]
Is it just like, your kinda people, where you're from?
[It's been weird to him, running into so many people who are used to humans being the only race. It'd be nice to know he's not the only one who's used to all sorts of people.]
no subject
No. I live on Earth, with humans. If there's others like me, we stay hidden.
no subject
[No offense to any humans in the audience.]
Wait, why do you have to hide? If you're secretly evil or whatever I'm gonna be real pissed.
[The logical conclusion to draw, apparently.]
no subject
No, but I am very different from humans. They'd be afraid.
no subject
[They're all very different from each other, with varying levels of "threat" attached to their races, but no one makes a big deal out of it.]
no subject
How do people react to your magic?
[ Clark already knows the answer. He's trying for a parallel. ]
no subject
[It's not the same at home, where people understand that magic is just another tool, but he thinks he gets the point Clark is making, even if he doesn't actually know what he can do.]
But that's not everyone, they just don't understand it, I guess? Hiding isn't gonna help that.
no subject
[ He sighs. ]
I'm not always hiding.
[ Case in point: very distinct outfit. ]
It'll take time.
no subject
[It's kind of frustrating to realize, because it feels like contributing to this whole weird stereotype thing they've apparently got going on.
Taako sighs, and gives Clark's arm a little pat, trying to be reassuring.]
If it helps, I'm hella not afraid of you. And not just 'cause I could probably kick your ass.
[He has no idea if that's true or not, but it's the sentiment that matters.]
no subject
I'm not afraid of you either.
[ #friendship ]
no subject
This was sweet, I'm glad we had this chat, I think it's really brought us closer together. [He was serious and nice for like ten minutes, any longer and people might start rumors that he's actually kind.] Let's go fuck up some lizards now, yeah?
no subject
How far down were you planning to go?
no subject
[There's rarely any point planning their missions, when things go sideways so quickly.]
no subject
There's a cave-in that way. We can stop there and make our way back out.
no subject
[He's not sure exactly how Clark's doing whatever the hell he's doing, but that's fine.]
I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and guess you don't need any kinda armor?
[The suit looks relatively thin, but if Clark's talking about people being scared of him, there's gotta be more going on than meets the eye.]
no subject
[ Wait until one of the lizards tries to bite him and breaks all its teeth. ]
I'll stay out of your way.
[ Though, he's not worried about one of Taako's spells hitting him. He doesn't know yet magic can hurt him. ]
no subject
Good idea, my man, no one needs a magic missile up their ass.
[Except Magic Brian. Fuck that guy.]
