who: Taako & whoever wants in on this
what: Fighting monsters in a tunnel basically counts as a dungeon crawl, right?
when: Late March
where: Those tunnels!!
warnings: Uh, violence, eldritch horrors maybe, he's got some weird spells
notes: If you wanna do something that doesn't involve fighting hmu at
batsecretary!!
[Regardless of who asks, Taako will maintain that he had a shitty cleric back home, but suddenly being without one at all is making him appreciate Merle way more than he ever did. Not having a team to rely on makes battle a lot more uncertain; there's no Magnus to take the brunt of the damage, no Merle to heal or buff them as needed, no helpful NPC to swoop in and save the day.
But a threat to the city means a threat to him, so he's signed up to help cull the creatures in the tunnels. He needs the experience, too, if he's going to level up and figure out a spell strong enough to get him home.
Really though he's just hoping that these creatures are easy enough to dispatch, and mostly he's right. Compared to some of the shit he's had to put up with, over-sized lizards aren't particularly scary, nor particularly threatening, though the amount of them is concerning. Luckily he has a lot of area of effect spells.
In the interest of not immediately running out of spell slots, he starts with low level spells and his single attack cantrip, which results in a lot of frozen creatures leaving a trail behind him, although a few of them have also been on the receiving end of a magic missile, leaving them just straight up dead.
Eventually he moves on to stronger shit: a large sphere of fire moves through the tunnels, directed by Taako, held still when he comes across any allies so that they can move around it, and he'll encourage people to stick with him, since he's used to fighting in groups. At some point, a little troupe of water elementals follow after him, attacking any of the creatures that get too close.
It starts to take it's toll, though, both the spellcasting and the attacks that the creatures manage to get in. His clothes are torn and bloody, and he leans a little more heavily on the Umbra Staff at some points, just needing to take a breather. Finally, he realizes it's worth spending two spell slots on fixing himself up, and waits until he comes across a large group of the lizards.
Sleep knocks them unconscious, and Taako kneels down in the middle of them, reaching out with a hand wreathed in shadow. When he touches the creatures, they awaken for a very brief struggle, before they just... die. Taako's wounds knit themselves back together, he sits up a little straighter, and moves on to the next one and the next one until they're all dead.
And then he gets back to work.]

[But it's said with a breezy smile. As she notches and arrow and, while still looking at him, lets it fly into the lizard's skull.]
Ya know there's weirdo's that make shoes outta scaly things like that? Can't wrap my head round it.
no subject
Mostly because he doesn't want to actually get into an argument.]
Like, leather? Leather isn't that weird, my dude.
[Lizard leather, but still.]

[Snakes. Too Evil Mage Rawr for her. But as the monster crashes at the hands of its...soggy foes (and her arrow), she shoulders the bow and walks over. Party Formed.
Elf thief and mage. Truly the worst planned combat campaign ever designed. Where is their tank??]
Sounds all chafey. And not in the fun ways.

I'm not an expert on like, tanning, but I'm sure they soften that shit up.
[In the interest of being a Good Teammate(tm), Taako uses mage hand to yank Sera's arrow out of the dead lizard; a blue hand about the size of Taako's own carries the arrow over to Sera, offering it feathers first.
He doesn't know how many arrows she's got, so it seems smart to save as many as they can.]

[Magic. But, still. She (careful not to touch the hand) reaches out to tenderly grab the arrow. With a good shake she flicks most of the blood off onto the wall, then tucks it back into her quiver.]
You first, then. You be the bait, I'll be the big toothy thing that comes and rips up their nethers.
no subject
Of course I'm the bait, thank you. [So dry, but he waves a hand to get the elementals moving ahead, then starts walking through the tunnels, keeping his umbra staff at the ready.]

Taako hears the next lot of lizards before he sees them, little skittering sounds that set him on edge even if he's feeling mostly confident about his and Sera's ability to not get totally wrecked.
He's also confident in her ability to hear things, so he doesn't bother warning her that they're about to come up more creatures, he just waves the elementals forward.
The answer to her unspoken curiosity is answered when a lizard leaps from around a corner and takes a "bite" out of one of the elementals; it just turns back to water, falling uselessly on the ground. The remaining ones attack the lizard, killing it, but there are plenty more of them coming down the tunnel.]
This probably goes without saying, but don't get too close, yeah?
[He's not an evocation wizard, so he can't shape spells around allies.]
no subject
Frig. Figured they'd turn into...I dunno. Tiny fighter things in their stomach, yeah? Give 'em watery poo at least.
[Just dying. How boring. But he's not the only one with some shit. She pulls a potion from her hip and, before gulping it, calls out]
Hold the fire for a tic.
[Because with that sweet, sweet flask swallowed, the enemies that touch her freeze solid for a moment. Perfectly still and ready to be destroyed by, say, fire.
For all her issues with mages, this isn't her first rodeo fighting next to them.
Just ignore the fact she's also coated in a shimmering layer of ice as she weaves. But she's only one rogue. She rolls in to the mess of them, freezing a few, then tumbles out of the way and waits for the magic to happen.]
no subject
At first he's baffled by her comment, then he's baffled by whatever the hell she's doing with that potion and the frozen... spell? Of some kind? It's not something he's ever really seen before and he's curious about how it works, whether it could be replicated here, but right now he should probably focus on the frozen creatures.
As soon as Sera is out of the way, Taako sweeps his umbrella up in a slashing motion, sending a huge bolt of lightning from the tip that just utterly decimates the lizards. They're just real fucked up and Taako barely even casts them a second glance.]
So you wanna tell me what the hell that is, if not magic?
[With a vague gesture at Sera in general, namely the whole glowy ice thing.]
no subject
[You know. Drugs. Totally normal. She nudges one of the shattered bits with her toe, snorting in amusement as she sends it skipping forward to bounce off some other broken shards of frozen lizard.]
Anyone can do it. Not like magic.
no subject
[He can't remember if he told her or not, because he's had the same conversation like ten times, just involving less demon accusations.]
Sure as shit looked like magic.
no subject
[There's no force behind the statement, she's too busy with her new game of Ice Lizard Shuffle Board. Kick the frozen bits, try to knock other frozen bits around. Horrifying fun for the whole family.]
I can teach my things. To the right kinda people.
no subject
[Is he going to have to teach someone magic just to prove a point that anyone can do it, because he will?]
You know shit doesn't work where I came from like it does for you? You picked that up, right?
no subject
[That is accompanied by a hard kick to an ice chunk, sending it skittering away kinda loudly. There is most def some lizard hissing down the tunnel that lets them know something else heard that, too.]
Magic is cursed by the Maker. Maker made everything. That's just the cards, yeah? Hope you've got some more lightening.
no subject
[He says it mostly like he's just amazed, rather then specifically delivering an insult.
On the plus side, now he can officially Stop Bothering trying to convince her that his magic is different to whatever she's used to. Which means he can break out the big guns.
Taako stalks forward, hitting the first lizard with a ray of frost from his umbrella, and when the rest of the pack start catching up, he makes a motion as if he's ripping something from the ground.
Black tentacles appear in the tunnel in front of them, grabbing the lizards and just beating the shit out of them.]
You might wanna keep your distance from this one.
