✪ iii. closed to john

[It isn't very often that Cisco and Taako have left Eddie alone since he arrived here. Neither of them makes a big deal about it, but they're both aware that it bothers him, to be alone in this sterile place, with way too much time to think. But he'd fallen asleep somewhere in the night and obviously they both have things to do that don't involve babysitting a grown man in a hospital bed.

It's reasonable, because no one had expected him to wake up until the next day, sometime in the late morning. But he wakes up early, his healing progress showing up in the fact his internal clock is back on schedule, and he wakes up alone. Glancing around blearily, mouth dry and hot, he makes a low groan, then touches the button that calls the nurse for water, eyes sinking shut for a moment.

When he hears the sound of someone at his bedside, his eyes slide open and he puts on a weak smile, only to realize that it isn't the nurse. It's John, holding the pitcher of water and a glass. For a moment, he's frozen, smile still on his face, staring at him, and then he exhales, relaxes. It's easy to tell from the body language that John isn't like that anymore, that it's just instinct to be on edge.]

Hey.

[His voice is rough, dry, and he swallows thickly.]
