In the days leading up to July 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Carnivale. This holiday is in celebration of music, and the onset of summer and warmer weather. The celebrations are marked by street parties, an extensive program of live musical performances, with a large parade (and paid holiday!) capping it off on July 8th.

After a couple of months of low-key or even solemn celebrations, it's time for Riverview Quarantine to throw a good, old-fashioned party. Carnivale is a city-wide festival that pretty much everyone gets into, and many residents take the entire week off so they can enjoy all the festivities. With events ranging from impromptu street parties, free live musical performances, food stands, themed club nights, adult lounges with kink shows, and topped off with a massive party parade, the holiday has a lot to offer for anyone who likes to sing, dance, and show some skin!

i. street parties and food

One of the staples of the Carnivale festival is the spontaneous street parties and food trucks and carts. It's not unusual during the holiday to turn a corner and run into a group of people dressed in bright colors and sequins having an impromptu party with a few drinks, and then be invited to join right in! Carnivale is a celebration of music as well as summer, so most shops and stalls will be blasting danceable music into the streets to facilitate these little street parties - it's considered a sign of good luck for the owner of a business if an impromptu Carnivale celebration starts up in front of their door.

Considering the proliferation of street parties and people out and about to celebrate the warmer weather, local business owners also take to the streets. Food carts, stands, and trucks pop up on almost every street corner offering a wide variety of food from savory treats to sweet desserts. Many of the carts are offering one free item to anyone dressed up for Carnivale - anything shimmery, shiny, or brightly colored will do!

ii. live musical performances

One of the major roads in the city center has been completely roped off for the entire week, and all along this street, various temporary stages have been set up, each with a nice hefty sound system. Volunteers hand out printed flyers, and digital boards are set up here and there with schedules of various performances that are all free to attend, ranging from well-known popular music artists to new up-and-comers or independent artists who are looking to make a name for themselves. This event is very widely advertised around the city, and is accepting entries until the very last minute.

At couple of the acts might be familiar faces to some of the residents.

Eichi Tenshouin has signed up himself and his friend Tsumugi Aoba into the music festival as a first-time appearing idol unit called "Higanbana." Dressed in all white with splashes of color (blue, largely, with only their headsets being a red spider lily), they carry a very commanding and angelic image together. They'll have a routine that emphasizes their great harmony with each other, taking turns doing solo lines and joining together to show off each of their talents. Singing and dancing, they interact heavily with the audience and will encourage a lot of involvement with speaking between songs and gestures, winks, and so on. Basically, they intend to make this Riverview's very first prominent "idol performance".

For his performance, Otabek Altin will start with rock remixes of a few popular pop songs. He wants to make sure that it starts off with recognizable pieces for some people, and he certainly thinks it is something that could get people excited even if they don't know it. Then, it shifts into a few original songs. They are upbeat, rock songs that he put together with the intention to make people dance and move, since he is a DJ. He'll end his set with a slower piece he put together that is also an original. Through the entire performance, he's focused and quiet, though he may occasionally try and excite the crowd with a few words.

Any other player-characters who are musically inclined are more than welcome to assume their character was fit in for a performance, and can post up a top-level with a rundown of their performance to get bonus Activity Points for posting a mingle!

iii. carnivale parade

The other main attraction of Carnivale week comes on July 8th, which is a paid holiday for everyone in the city. The Carnivale Parade will be starting out by City Hall and winding through downtown in a lazy pattern so everyone in the city has a chance to see it. There will be all sorts of floats, dancers, marching bands, with all sorts of clubs, businesses, and other organizations represented. The theme is theatrical, big and showy, bright and colorful, sparkly and shiny, with loud music and lots of glitz and glamour. Observers can expect great music, excellent dancing and marching shows, neat vehicles provided by classic car clubs, the fire, police, and Perimeter Guard. They can also expect a lot of party favors, whether it's a sparkly plastic beaded necklace, a fan to take the edge off the heat, candy, popsicles, a temporary tattoo, or any number of other little treats or toys to be tossed into the crowd - some of them fit for kids and teens, others of a more 'adult' nature handed out a bit more discreetly to anyone who looks the part.

And make sure you wear your waterproof mascara - Carnivale floats have a tendency of spraying or spritzing water, both in an unspoken competition to see who can make the biggest water-refraction rainbow in the air, and to keep observers cool in the new summer heat.

iv. adult: lounges and kink exhibition

Thanks to the Carnivale tradition of showing as much skin as possible, some event organizers' minds have turned to topics of a more adult nature. In the evenings, residents may see clubs doing "lounge nights"; these adults-only events have bouncers IDing everyone at the door to ensure they're 18+. The themes may vary, from very specific niche themes like 'golden age superheroes' to broad themes like 'rainbows,' and each event is clearly marked as what it is - all-nude or clothing-optional, and can host events ranging from amateur to professional exotic dancing, food served off of nude bodies, anonymous masked hookups, or just provide a comfortable space where casual sex is encouraged with whoever happens to be around. Various legal substances can be found at these lounges, but nothing that would cause violation of consent, and every substance would be clearly labeled and have warnings to ensure that no one partakes unless they choose to. Please be sure to warn in the subject line for sexual content or drug use (since some mild party drugs are legal in Riverview).

For the weekend from July 7th-9th, there will be a kink exhibition in one of the large exhibition centers downtown, limited to characters 18+. The exhibition is a sexy adult informational convention featuring various kinks and fetishes. Whether you're into leather, latex, lace, or anything else, you'll be able to find the clothes, toys, guides, books, erotica, fiction, and a wide variety of other interesting stuff to explore. While the atmosphere is sex-positive and there are private and public (for the voyeurs and exhibitionists in the room) venues for having sex, it's definitely focused on exploration and information about different stuff to try.

If Yuffie had known Drew prior to this moment she might have been embarrassed. Instead he made her really curious. She dragged her eyes over him for a moment and then looked back at the chains. How would those not be strong enough??

"I thought the point wasn't to try and get out of them?" She walked around Drew now, lightly poking at his arms and sides and then one poke to his abdomen as if to test the strength there.

"You don't have any strength materia or anything... do you?"

Drew yelps a little when she starts to lightly poke at him, not because it hurt but because it was unexpected. When she gets to his sides he tries his best to stifle a giggle before twisting away. "Hey now, who said y'could go 'round pokin' a guy in his sensitive places, huh?" He rubbed his hands up and down his sides furiously to chase away the jitters. "I'm ticklish!"

"Strength materia? The hell is that..." He holds his hands up, palm out in a peaceful way. "I'm just a werewolf. Y'know... half man, half wolf. Really freakin' strong, an' fast too... and some other crap but there's no point borin' your ass off."

Yuffie laughed, holding up her palms as if to surrender. "You're the one talking about your muscles. I wanted to see what I was getting myself into." Her smile widened. Yuffie lightly brushed her fingers against his side as she skirted around him to move back to where she had been standing before.

He really shouldn't have told her that he was ticklish.

"I don't see how any of that is boring. It's better than a vampire. Which I've sort of met. At least he's grumpy like a vamp is. Hey! Does that mean you'll play fetch with me if I throw something?" For once, Yuffie was too distracted to geek out about Materia.

He tries to move away again when he feels the brush of fingers which though light and deft would feel like so much more to a werewolf. "Well hell, most people ask for show an' tell they don't go tryin' things out for themselves."

He laughs though. "Well that ain't always right, I mean some vamps sure are grumpy, y'should see my boss when I turn up late to the bar." He cuts her a look though at the fetch comment, eyebrows knitting together. "I only chase things worth catchin', y'hear? Don't go throwin' me sticks and tennis balls."

Yuffie rolled her shoulders in a rounded shrug. She liked to be impulsive, even if her past experiences tell her that it’s going to end poorly. No matter what happened, it could always get worse. "Says you. Show and tell doesn’t sound like a lot of fun." Unless it’s blackmail worthy material. That kind of show and tell was a lot more fun.

"So you’ve met a not grumpy vampire? I’d really like to see that." It sounds weird.

There wasn’t anything wrong with playing fetch. Though it wasn’t hard to sense his reservations. "So what’s worth chasing?" She asked with a bit of a grin that suggested that his answer will not be forgotten.

"That depends what kinda show an' tell you're workin' with. Believe me, I've worked with a lotta fun shows an' a hell of a lotta fun tells in the past." He grins widely, those ever present teeth seeming particularly wolfish with the air of mischief about him.

"An' hell yeah I've met a non-grumpy vampire. Y'should meet my girl Natalia, she's like seven hundred years old and the best party animal I know!" She also acts like she's permanently twenty so that could have a lot to do with it.

"Worth chasin'?" There was an obvious answer on the tip of his tongue that slips out without too much prompting. "Tail."

Yuffie stared up at Drew with an expression balanced between curiosity and caution. Her lips parted but it took her another few seconds to finally speak. "What kind of show and tells are you talking about?" She didn't know if this was an innuendo for something or not.

It really wasn't clear.

The vampire sounded awesome though and Yuffie wanted to meet her and go party with her and it'd be awesome. "I wish she was here." This sounded like a fun person and Yuffie needed more fun people in her life.

She'd count chasing a tail as fun. Yuffie laughed, her palm moving to her stomach to stop it from hurting with each new wave of giggles. "Your tail is better than a ball? I mean I'd chase your tail..." Wait. "But only to see if I can keep up with you. I'm pretty fast." Her Materia helps her with that.

"The fun kind?" He winks at her and crosses his arms over his chest, it was pretty obvious what kind of test he'd be thinking about.

"Huh well 'Talia ain't even been in texas for a while either. Kinda wish she was here too, just to have a familiar face 'round here." Which would be nice, especially someone like Tali. She was just as sociable as Drew and knew how to drew in a crowd and make friends fast.

He laughs loudly at that. "There's a lotta people who'd like to chase my tail too, so y'wouldn't be alone. An' you'd have one hell of a hard time keepin' up. I'm not the strongest in my pack but I'm sure as shit one of the fastest."

Yuffie rolled her eyes. "I'd call you a pig but I already know you're a dog." See what she did there? It's punny.

This vampire sounded interesting, and in a rare case of curiosity, Yuffie logged away the name for future reference. She rarely remembered the things that people told her but this seemed important, or it might be; eventually.

Yuffie's smile stretches into a cocky grin. "Wanna bet on that?" She has her Materia to help her go faster though she didn't know exactly how fast he was talking about. She loved a challenge.

He actually laughs at that. "Yeah sure, keep 'em comin'... we haven't heard enough dog jokes yet." Drew, at least, wasn't the kind of werewolf that was annoyed by them. He found them all kind of interesting really.

"I mean that depends on what we're bettin'? Y'got anythin' worth it?" He was already grinning, considering if he dropped into a wolf he could travel fast enough to be a blur to the naked, human eye.

Yuffie snickered. "Oh, I will." Jokes were great and given that Drew was a werewolf? Well, it was like one giant walking-talking dog pun. Yuffie couldn't help herself.

"That depends what you find worth something." Yuffie was quick to counter him, her grin stretching from ear to ear. Running faster than the human eye wasn't so hard, the part that Yuffie was most interested in was how well he got around obstacles, whatever course they pick it's gonna have something in the way.

Can he leap buildings? That'd be fun to see and that's what she's interested in.

"I shoulda figured y'were gonna be one of those types." He grins, there was no malice behind the statement.

"I'm a man of a lotta simple pleasures." He grins. "But I guess I've got all my comforts here already..." He shrugs though. "Guess there's no harm in doin' it just for fun!"

"Those types? The hell does that mean." She looked up at him, her hands coming to rest on her hips as she sized him up. He didn't look too tough or too fast.

"Mmhmm" Yuffie hummed softly, looking skeptical.

She should probably rethink how she approached or met new people but she couldn't help it. "So you're saying that you won't ask for anything because you have everything you want?" A smirk tugged at her lips. "Afraid you'll lose? Fine. I want ice cream if I win." She likes food.

"Means there's a specific kinda person that sure do love a dog joke the moment they find a werewolf. But hey, least you're doin' it in a way that ain't mean. I had a guy I was seein' serve me dinner in a dog bowl this one time." He frowns a little bit thinking of it but quickly forgets it.

"Well shit I didn't realise it was that kinda bet... if I win I want two whole sundaes!" Because why have one sundae when you can gorge yourself on multiples. She shouldn't have mentioned food around him because the werewolf changed exponentially.

Yuffie laughed. "That sounds awesome." She'd eat out of a dog bowl, but then it's the same as a regular bowl but dog bowl shaped. It was fun to imagine, even if it was a little silly.

By this point, Yuffie had completely forgotten why she'd originally came out tonight. She tugged at Drew's hand to lead him outside. "Deal. Let's go race." She lived in the now, which meant that their race would be from here to wherever Yuffie can see in the distance.

She'll most likely steal a bite of his sundaes if she looses anyway.

Drew just hums at that because it wasn't something he'd been interested at the time. There was a stark difference between dog puns and funny jokes and actual dehumanisation, something that not everyone recognised but Drew had been forced to acknowledge more and more over the years.

Drew takes a glance at the bondage window before shaking his head, recognising that if this place existed to have an expo then it would always be something he'd be able to find in the future. Besides, he didn't have any sexual partners right now so a potential friend was worth a lot more to him than a set of manacles.

He's grinning as she starts to pull the two of them away from the expo. "Deal! But once we're about to start y'gotta give me a couple seconds to prepare." Congratulations, Yuffie, you're about to see a werewolf transformation.

Her mind liked to break things down into an overly simplified format, she will slowly pick up on tendencies and habits of others but Yuffie didn't make a habit of showing it. It's one of the reasons she's seen as immature or childish. Once she realized the sort of jokes that Drew enjoyed and disliked, she'd alter her comments to what made him smile. Smiling was sort of the point of everything that she did.

"Only if you do the same." Yuffie looks up at him with a bright, overly energetic grin. She's all in this and is totally willing to give him the time he needs to show off. Every deserves to show off once in awhile.

Once outside Yuffie stretched her arms over head. She then gently ran a finger over her wrists where her materia was, activating it. So she was going to cast Haste. It wasn't cheating.

Drew just grins at her toothily. "Sure thing. I take it this is where we start gettin' ready." He eyes her stretching, knowing that she's taking it seriously, at which point he starts to take off his clothes.

He moves quickly, toeing off his shoes before reaching for the hem of his t-shirt and pulling it up over his head, exposing both hair and muscles in practically equal quantities. It looked like Drew had never heard the expression manscaping and was just as hairy as a man as he was as a wolf.

When he gets to removing his belt he's just as quick, throwing everyone on top of each other in a small bundle that he'd be able to identify by scent later when he needed to come back for his clothes. It was better this way, after all, considering that if not he'd have to have a pretty heavy budget for clothing. He drops his boxers and trousers in the same movement, the material pooling around his ankles at which point he steps out and away from it, toeing it over with the other stuff. He finally turns to speak to Yuffie again, a hand on his hip, the idea of his nudity clearly natural to him. "Now listen, I ain't gonna be able to speak so y'gotta tell me where we're racin' before I switch! No cheatin' either, you wait 'til I howl before y'go runnin' off."

Yuffie knew that she shouldn't stare and some voice in the back of her head told her to look Drew in the eye when she spoke to him but it was really hard for her not to check him out. It wasn't so much in a sexual way, as a curious way. It wasn't like Yuffie got to see a lot of her friends naked.

Eventually she stopped and looked back up at him. "Oh, to the common housing." It was a location that she assumed almost everyone knew.

Her fingers brushed against the materia on her wrist as she began to cast. If he could shift then she could use magic. An orange clock appeared beneath her feet, ticking quickly as it speed up her movements. "Get ready. I'm counting down in 30 seconds." She knew how long her spell would last so she didn't want to wait that long for him to shift.

Drew could feel eyes on him and didn't care about it at all, especially not with the background he came from. He knew himself that if Yuffy had been a dude and started getting naked in front of him he'd have stared in a way that would've been entirely sexual; it wasn't that he was strictly a pervert... he was just close to it. As if to prove his point he wiggles his own butt at her, no problem staring Yuffie.

"Common housin'? Perfect..." Especially perfect considering he would be able to sniff the way out to his home, the wolf would be able to run completely on instinct with practically no input from Drew himself, he could practically taste the sundaes already.

He turns to her and glances at the clock beneath her feet, a smirk forming on his lips even as his own eyes glow like twin lamps that that supernaturally blue hue, suddenly there was the sound of a crack, like a tree branch being broken in half as Drew's bone's start to break apart, the man in front of her's skin rippling ad it tore apart and reformed, the five foot ten man slowly being torn apart and a five foot brown wolf with those same blue eyes taking its place. When the transformation is finished he howls, the sound ear-shattering in the otherwise silent air around them. He would've looked scary too, if it weren't for the fact Drew turns to her, his tongue lolling out of his mouth.

Yuffie was actually used to shocking transformations. She has the shivering memory of Chaos to compare Drew's changes too and NOTHING was as terrifying or unsettling as watching Vinny change.

Her lips tugged into a smile when Drew turned to her. "Aren't you adorable." She pat his head before taking her place beside him. Her movements were quick, appearing at his side in a blink. Haste + speed plus; Yuffie was feeling pretty good. She might have grossly underestimated how fast a werewolf can run or how long her haste spell would last but she wouldn't figure that out until about halfway through the race.

"Ready? Set. GO!"

Yuffie took off. Running, jumping and soaring to the rooftops to follow a straight path, instead of the twist and turns of the road. She lost track of Drew fairly quickly.

The wolf growls faintly at the adorable comment but there's still enough humanity in its features to show that its in jest rather than outright bestial animosity. Drew was excited for the race though, pawing at the ground in front of him.

He hadn't expected her to go up which was almost a surprise when Yuffie took off running but Drew wasn't about to be outdone by the fact that she could travel both longitudinally and laterally. The wolf wasn't interested in that kind of thing and instead seemingly disappears with a snarl, being a blur as supernatural paws took it winding in the direction of Drew's own scent, the scent of home.

He didn't stay completely in the streets either, because that would prove dangerous for any pedestrians out and about and instead he scales a mid-sized building, his claws leaving gouges in the brick work, Drew becoming not much more of a shadow zipping over the rooftops.

Yuffie regretted nothing!

She kept up her pace, diving and jumping over buildings. She really should have been paying more attention to the black blur that was pulling in front of her. When she arrived at the finish line she cheered, then she saw Drew there.

"Damn it!"

The wolf that was Drew was pacing back and forth in front of the buildings now, he knew that realistically speaking he could shift back, go inside and get some different clothes and not worry about his old ones, but he'd need the communicator in his pocket at the very least.

He watched as Yuffie's excitement gave way to defeat and gave her another wolfish smile, tongue lolling out the side of his mouth as he moves over to butt her thigh with his head.

Yuffie's arms crossed over her chest looking very displeased. She looked down at Drew when he bumped her side and stuck out he tongue. "Cheater." She claimed before attempting to jump on him.

As expected, she tumbled to the ground instead. Her legs crossed beneath her as she frowned. "Fine. You win. But I am not getting ice cream with a dog."
