Lampyr is Here for You.

If anyone missed his commercial, or simply didn't want to respond to it, they may instead find his second marketing scheme. Around the city, usually hidden in alleyways, you may find a small display similar to sample trays in grocery stores. Each has a sign that says "DRINK ME" in a bright neon color, which matches the covered trays of drinks below it. Sketchy? Absolutely, but curiosity may take the better of you... or maybe you read the inscription on the table siting the tempting results of the liquid.

ORANGE - HONEST LAMPYR: Open up your inner emotions! Come to terms with startling truths! Share with others to learn their deepest secrets!
YELLOW - FEARFUL LAMPYR: Enhance your adrenaline! Give yourself goosebumps or share with enemies for a frightful surprise! Raise the stakes of night-time hide-and-seek!
GREEN - ENVIOUS LAMPYR: Test your social safety! Learn the intentions of others! Share with friends and lovers to learn their honest opinion of you!
BLUE - GRIEVING LAMPYR: Strengthen your bonds! Open the depths of your feelings! Instigate attachment with others!
PURPLE - AFFECTIONATE LAMPYR: Let go of your reservations! Accustom yourself with touch and social comfort! Become cuddly!

Each display also features a very crude drawing of a firefly showing the appropriate emotion, although it looks like a kindergartener drew it. One of these days Dodger will have to hire an artist. While your character will not see Dodger initially, he is watching from a nearby hiding place and will come to observe and mess with them if they take a sample, to see the effects of the drink.

The drink tastes spicy, savory, sour, bitter, sweet and minty respectively, although not particularly good regardless. They all have an aftertaste like cough syrup. Obviously the effects don't exactly match up with the claims; they simply give you a very strong form of that emotion, which may lead to side effects. Bloodlust, impulsive truths, paranoid hallucinations, a compulsive need to check your importance to others, uncontrollable crying, or a lovedrunk, affectionate stupor are respectively the most common side effects. Though the effects are strong, they are significantly lessened within an hour (when they stop entirely is up to the player) and the character will never do anything they are morally against.

While Dodger will generally try to speak to anyone who has inadvertently become a test subject, feel free to make open top-levels for others to come across your character in an affected state. Please assume that Dodger is watching them during their exchange, though, and any information passed between them is now known by him.

[It's eggs. Just the taste of cooked egg yolks and some vague hint of unseasoned meat. Overall, a pretty unpleasant taste, especially when it ends in the taste of cough syrup.]

The taste is a side effect of the ingredients. Medicine never tastes good.

[But more importantly, she took the bait, so he's curious to see how much the drug affects her. His head tips as he speaks to her.]

How are you feeling?

It's not medicine that I'm after.

How am I feeling? What do you think? That was not a pleasant experience.

[She states it with a very definite tone.]

I can't imagine anyone wanting to drink this if they have a choice.

[She's definitely less reserved than before, though it's probably just a reaction to the taste, not the drug. Or is it?]

Sometimes things like this are a necessity.

[He doesn't know her, so she could just be blunt... he'll have to keep prodding her.]

If you're not here for the drinks, what are you doing here? You looking for someone?

Being honest with yourself is a necessity? Maybe sometimes. Yet there are also times when you can't afford that...

[She sounds melancholic for a moment, before shaking her head again - this time more lightly, refocusing herself rather than trying to dispel a strange aftertaste.]

I'm looking for someone named Dodger. I know he's doing business somewhere around here - and that he's missing an eye.

[Not a very tactful thing to say.]

[Blunt, but he's always liked people who get to the point. He tilts his head to the side, and raises a brow as he looks her over.]

And what are you planning to do when you find him?

[So far, it seems like the drug's working... so maybe he'll get a straight answer.]

He's dangerous, but... I don't have orders to apprehend or stop him. This is my own initiative, and I have no intention of doing anything of that sort.

[2B clenches her fists as they rest along her body. As far as the blindfold can show, she looks surprised. Surprised that the truth comes out so easily.]

I just want to talk to him.

[The drug's definitely working, if her posture is anything to go by. Dodger nods quietly, as if this is new information to him... although, he's curious how exactly word got around about him.]

Talk to him about what?

What he did with Ivar Ragnarsson.

[Her voice sounds really serious.]

[If there's any reaction he has to that, he doesn't show it. Instead, he simply responds after a small pause.]

Whatever you heard, it was self-defense.

It's you, isn't it.

[Maybe in some other circumstance 2B would be able to keep up the charade, but right now the honest lampyr is affecting her too much to keep her mouth shut.]

Ivar said you insulted him, and then attacked him. He barely escaped with his life.

[She shifts her weight into a slightly lower, hunched stance, as if glaring at Dodger in an accusatory manner.]

If both of you are claiming self-defense, then who started it?

[He tilts his head as he watches her... she doesn't seem surprised by the honesty, but he guesses some people aren't as opposed to compulsive truth as he is.]

I started it. Back when we first met, I tripped him out of his chair.

[Claiming self-defense all the way isn't really a logical option; he'll just be honest.]

A few months after that, he jumped me while I was walking home. Tried to use me for target practice. I incapacitated him so I'd be safe to head home, and left him with a police officer who wandered onto the scene.

[He decides not to mention... all of the torture that police officer has gone through, thanks to Dodger.]

[Her lips pursed, 2B turns away from Dodger momentarily - her head held low, she exhales in consternation.]

So you did. And now it's turned into a grudge. A months long one.

[What's this, is she trying to lecture him now? She looks up to him again.]

Do you intend to keep it up?

Oh, that's my last question by the way. You answered enough already.

I'll retaliate whatever he starts. I've got no good reason to go after him on my own.

[His head tips to the other side as he regards her, looking vaguely questioning.]

That's it? You're just gonna take my word for it?

[She shrugs, her head shaking slightly.]

I took his. It may have been a mistake, but I did.

The truth is, I don't know who to trust. But what can I do, kill one of you? That's not why we're here. This is a place of second chances, new opportunities. I don't want to ruin it. It's not that I am without sin either.

[She looks surprised at the ease with which these words escape her lips. 2B would rather not reveal her own thoughts and yet here we go - why is that? Ah, of course...]

I shouldn't have drunk that.

Drinking it is fair payment for getting information from me.

[Final decision: the Lampyr is definitely working.]

The effects should wear off in an hour - if they don't, shoot me a message when you think they actually are gone. Username's "dodger".

[A small pause.]

I wouldn't suggest bringing this Ivar thing up again, though.

[There's a layer of dissatisfaction but also acceptance in 2B's voice, all of them put in a single word.]

Don't be concerned about it though. This isn't a situation where I can do anything. I can't help a human if it means harming another human. It goes against my nature and coding, as an android.

The best I could hope for is to get some closure. It's a selfish request, but in the end I think I got it.

One way or another...

[The best 2B can do is to not get involved, to just walk away - which is what she'll do right now. Nevermind that she just casually revealed quite a few other things Dodger may not have known.]
