[OPEN] Eddie's Bday Bash
who: Eddie's friends + any party crashers!
what: A surprise party for Eddie Thawne's 30th birthday
when: forward dated a little to July 4th
where: A nice park not too far from the river
warnings: Spiked drinks, will add as needed
Cisco, Taako, and Yuri have all come together to throw Eddie a party for his 30th birthday!
The party has a chill, summer barbecue vibe; the list of invited guests was limited to people who are friends and coworkers of Eddie, but any characters are welcome to stop by and join in the fun. It takes place in a large park near to the river, with trees and a wide expanse of grass. There is a marquee set up, to protect the party-goers from the bright sun, and casual seating inside on blankets atop the grass. Since Yuri handled the decorations, there's a lot more leopard print than one would expect in this context. Like a lot more.
SURPRISE!
Cisco sent out the invitations went a week in advance, all the details included along with a particularly dire warning that if anyone blabbed to Eddie about even the existence of a party, Cisco would do horrible things to them with science as punishment. Somehow, remarkably (though likely not because of those threats), no one gives away the secret, which means that around 3PM everyone is waiting in the marquee for Taako to lure Eddie in. Cisco goes around, handing everyone party poppers with plenty of confetti and glitter and telling them to hush and get ready for the big moment!
FOOD
If Taako were catering this party for either himself or for someone who had given him free range, there would be a lot of delicate hors d'oeuvres and over the top cakes to feed a crowd of people, but he's managed to keep the theme and the person this party is for in mind, and gone for something a little more chill. The cake(s) is still fancy, as are the mini cakes to go with it, and he had a little fun with the macarons, because what's the point of being an amazing baker if he can't show off.
There are typical munchies set out on a table, although the chips and dips are all handmade rather than store bought, and the cheese and crackers came from a little deli that Taako is particularly fond of. The main event itself is a burger bar, with the assorted meat being cooked on a nearby barbeque by either Taako, or…. a floating set of tools that seem to be keeping a pretty good eye on things, when Taako is off doing whatever it is that he does when he isn't cooking. There's also an assortment of warm and cold salads, for anyone who's into that kind of thing.
There's not an overabundance of food, but it also never seems to look as though things are going to run out. Magic, bitches.
REFRESHMENTS (WITH A LITTLE EXTRA)
About an hour into the party, some mischievous guest takes it upon themselves to add a little something extra to the refreshments, just to make things interesting. But this isn’t your average slipping in a little bit of vodka in the punch on the sly situation. Instead, if your character drinks either of the following, they will feel the following effects:
The effects are cumulative, so if your character fixes themselves an Arnold Palmer, they will become both truthful AND fascinated. The effects last up to four hours.
SINGING & PRESENTS
At some point in the afternoon, everyone will gather around to make Eddie go through the process of blowing out candles on the big cake (Cisco allowed himself to be talked down from 30 individual candles to two candles, one with a 3 and one with an 0). Enthusiastic, hopefully not TOO off-key singing is highly encouraged.
After that, there is a table where anyone who brought a present will have left it by that point; anything, however little or small, however appropriate or inappropriate, is welcome.
DANCING & FIREWORKS
Who doesn’t love a bit of dancing? As the afternoon starts to fade into evening, partygoers who are inclined to shake their moneymakers can move out of the marquee to the small portable dance floor that has been set up on the grass. Nearby is a pretty cushy sound setup with plenty of speakers and Riverview’s own Otabek lending his talents as DJ.
Once sunset has faded and the sky is dark enough to properly appreciate it, a fireworks show has been prepared by Taako, to wrap the night up with a bang!

But this isn’t your average slipping in a little bit of vodka in the punch on the sly situation. Instead, if your character drinks either of the following, they will feel the following effects:
iced tea: anyone who drinks the iced tea will feel the effects of a mild truth potion. the effects do not compel the drinker to spill unrelated secrets, but are strong enough to prevent white lies and cause some pretty awkward social faux pas.
lemonade: anyone who drinks the lemonade will feel the effects of a mild fascination potion. this potion will cause the person who drinks it to become obsessed with an object, person, or phenomenon that they see or hear within the first two minutes after drinking it. this can encompass anything, so use your creativity – do they become suddenly enthralled with cake? a song that was playing from the dj station? with another partygoer’s shoes?
The effects are cumulative, so if your character fixes themselves an Arnold Palmer, they will become both truthful AND fascinated. The effects last up to four hours.

[Which is apparently also the truth, although he thinks the serum gives him a little bit of leeway depending on his intentions with saying something.]
We were just curious, ya know? It didn't hurt them and they could regrow themselves, so no harm no foul.
no subject
I wasn't- I- that's what it sounded like, okay?!
[ Which isn't really much of a rebuttal at all. But at least Taako clarifies that these things were breaking off parts of themselves for the visitors to eat and not just, like, sacrificing their lives, which is significantly less bizarre. Still pretty weird, mind, but at least Cisco's heard of animals that can break off parts of themselves and regrow them later, and he can see how it might develop into some sort of hospitality ritual. ]
Still can't believe that was your favorite. I thought you were gonna be all, oh yeah this one planet had waterfalls made of diamond, or... that one had three moons and such low gravity you could jump 50 feet in the air without even trying.
[ Taako is unpredictable, if nothing else. Cisco lays back down on the grass, sighs, and says: ]
Ok, truth me, but it better not be about sex stuff, ok, I'm already hella embarrassed over here.
no subject
So he just responds with a mmhmm as if he doesn't really believe that defensiveness. He's a shit.]
I'm a chef! It was pretty fucking wild, and also tasty. Not the best thing I'd eaten while on the mission, but less weird.
[Apparently there's something more weird than eating people, although that's because it's from Taako's perspective. His response to the meal in Tesseralia is still confusing and strange to him, and the fact he can never quite get it right is frustrating.]
Celebrity crush, go.
[That's not super embarrassing but he's curious, even if there's like a 99% change he'll have to google it.]
no subject
He breathes a little sigh of relief when Taako asks his question, and it's nothing he isn't willing to answer. Sure, it's not anything he'd post willingly on social media, but it's not shameful or depressing, either. ]
If we're talking ladies, Selena, like, obviously. [ Obviously. ] If we're talking dudes... Oliver Queen. I mean, come on, I was a teenager just starting to realize I was into guys when he was going through his whole tabloid slutty billionaire party boy phase, I never had a chance.
[ He knows that Taako doesn't actually have the sort of cultural references he'd need to understand this, but the truth potion isn't letting him explain very well. ]
And now it's weird, 'cause I actually ended up meeting him, and he asked me to design his team's costumes, including his, and you better believe some of those changes were purely for aesthetic reasons.
no subject
And the whole costume thing makes him laugh.]
Nice, my dude, I cannot blame you for that one at all. Based on the one? Two? I dunno if the second counts, superhero costumes I've seen here, they leave themselves open for aesthetics.
[AKA they seem to really rely on aesthetics over functionality]
no subject
[ He can't actually recall how much he's told Taako about making costumes for the superheroes back home. But he feels like of anyone here, Taako, with his very particular taste in clothing, will understand that it can be fun, designing over-the-top, colorful, strange, recognizable suits. ]
I mean, being on comms can be exciting sometimes, and training Barry and researching metas and figuring out ways to take them down are good too, but the costumes are definitely my favorite.
[ Cisco sits up a little, a puzzled frown coming across his face. He only realizes it belatedly, but. Well. Barry is his best friend, but training him can be pretty damn dull and frustrating some of the time. A lot of the time. But he'd just lumped it in as 'good' along with the other things.
Deliberately, he says: ]
I don't really like candy. [ Which might seem like a random thing to say, if it weren't followed by... ] Hey so I'm pretty sure the spell or whatever's wearing off.
no subject
But he raises an eyebrow when Cisco says the spell is wearing off, and:]
I'm-- Nope, it's still got me. Fuck that.
[Which means things are kind of unfair now, since they're not both stuck telling truths.]
It's not a spell then, for sure. They don't wear off at different times.
no subject
[ Cisco trails off, because right as he was saying that, Taako was taking a sip of his iced tea, which he'd been savoring whereas Cisco just downed his. He looks down at the empty cup sitting in the grass beside him, then back to Taako, and it just clicks. ]
Think it could be the drinks?
[ Why hadn't he thought of that before? It seems so simple, now. It's not like anyone had been guarding the refreshments table; it would have been easy for just about anyone to drop some truth serum or whatever the hell in there. Which is actually kind of a disturbing thought, in some ways, but Cisco puts that out of his head for now. ]
no subject
[He looks at the drink in his hand, then back at Cisco, then down at the drink again. It turns his stomach a little, because even if it's not poison, there's something about it that hits too close to home, and he very gingerly sets the drink down.]
How the fuck would we find out?
[What's a science.]
no subject
[ As much as he wants to know, he's not going to abandon Eddie's party midway through to run back to his workshop, especially since he's got no clue what he would even be looking for. As far as Cisco knows, truth serums aren't actually a real thing, in his world. This has to be magic, or some nonsense like that.
He gets to his feet, glancing back over to the marquee, and adds: ]
Aaaaaand I think I'm gonna dump out the rest of those bowls. Just in case. People can have beer or they can deal.
[ He looks back at Taako before going over to do that, asks a quick: ]
You good?
no subject
[It was one thing talking with Cisco when they were both under the influence, as it were, but he doesn't really feel like talking to someone when he's at risk of spilling any secrets and they won't be the same in return.]
You have fun.
[The ethereal plane seems like a better place 2 be.]
