(closed to Ed)
who: Edward Elric (
alchemyfreak) and Lockon Stratos (
lockonstratos)
what: Going to check in with the Guard
when: Shortly after they arrive (but after Lockon meets with Tieria)
where: Starting at Communal housing
warnings: n/a
As promised, Lockon returned to the communal housing to meet up with Ed. Sixth floor, he said, so that’s where Lockon meandered, looking for someone he only knew from a brief video exchange on the network. Once he spotted Ed, Lockon waved, all friendly smiles to get his attention. They guy offered to help him look for Haro, after all (though he’s since learnt his partner most likely isn’t there).
He’s no longer sporting the normal suit he arrived and filmed his introductory video in. The clothes provided to him weren’t the most fashionable, but they fit and were comfortable. Eventually he’ll get something more to his taste (jeans and t-shirt for the win!). For the time being, he’ll take what he can get in this strange new place.
“Yo,” he greeted with a grin. “Shall we figure out what’s up with this perimeter guard thing?”

"Yeah, let's go check it out."
Although Lockon had no preconceived notions of his own, Edward's appearance had a tendency to throw off even strangers on their first meeting. Sure, the long blond hair and bright gold eyes were easy enough to spot but people rarely expected to find him so short - 5'6 would be stretching it, and if one were to look down the red soled boots he's wearing certainly contribute to that figure by an inch or two. Most out of place are the white gloves, in stark contrast to the all black that is the rest of his outfit.
"This place must have an interesting turnover rate if they're just handing out jobs as soon as we arrive."

“Possibly,” he mused. “Or, they just want to make us feel useful. It’s a good way to keep people from fretting too much about the hows and whys of being here and getting home.”
He paused a moment, frowning subtly. “That sounds just as ominous now that I’ve said it out loud.”

He actually grins at that, hands on his hips as if the whole thing was amusing. "If they think keeping us busy is going to stop us from finding out what's actually going on here, they've underestimated the people they're bringing in." Been there, done that, doing it again tomorrow. At the frown, Ed's grin only widens. "I wouldn't worry too much about it, either way."
Ed doesn't wait for a response, starting for the exit. "Let's go, the sooner we figure out what's expected of us, the sooner we can work out what they really think we can do."

If there is something untoward going on here, there’s nothing they can do about yet. For all they know, the quarantine could be exactly what it claims to be. The only way to know for sure is to get out in it and see first-hand.
Once they’re outside, Lockon moves up to walk beside Ed en route to their destination – idly wondering if either of them know exactly how to get where they’re going.
“What will you be doing with the perimeter guard? They’ve offered me a job training people.”

"Training people? To do what?" Ed has a good sense of direction, and after Lang he knows enough to hunt down a map of the place. With all the different locales - with their own unique climates, even - it was impossible to navigate without one there. His hands slip into his pockets as they walk, shrugging a shoulder. "Little bit of everything, mostly. I'll be helping out with Search and Rescue when they need someone, I'd rather not pick up Orientation again, but- I'm not going to say no if they ask."
The Generl Store had been in charge of greetings in Purg, so that had been inherited by Ed too along with running the store when the owner left. It wasn't something he was entirely comfortable doing, and usually gave the actual greeting part to an employee - or Al after he'd shown up. Except when Lyle came back, Ed made sure he was the first one there for that, because whether Lockon had admitted it or not, he wouldn't believe that wasn't difficult to go through.
"Mostly though, I'm doing Salvage and Repair. With the skills I have from home repairing things is like second nature for me, I've been doing it freelance since the first portal that pulled me in."
