They come across the field she'd had in mind only ten minutes later, and Lucretia steps ahead of Taako, pushing her sleeves up her arms and drawing her wand from her pocket. Funnily enough, it's one that she'd borrowed from Taako in the first place.)

[Taako is practically bouncing with excitement, and when Lucretia asks if he's ready he nods quickly, stopping where he is to watch.]

Yes, I'm ready! Go go go!

Alright!

(She laughs, and decides she's going to cast it from an eighth level spell slot, just to see what happens: the fireball that arcs from the tip of her wand and shoots high up into the sky explodes with much fanfare, and noise. Lucretia had been careful to aim it as high as possible and angled away, but even from here she can feel the heat coming off of it.

It's an absolutely ridiculous display of power, but she's smiling so hard her face hurts. Without looking away from the sky, she calls to Taako.)

How about that?

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

[Give him a second, he's just staring in wide eyed wonder at the little licks of flame still curling in the air after that ridiculously insane display.]

[scholiast]

(She laughs and turns to face him, stowing her wand away securely, clearly just as excited about that as he is.)

Not bad. I've never cast it from that high a level before.

That was amazing. Have you ever been a wizard fight before?

[Has his new friend ever killed a thug? Inquiring minds.]

[scholiast]

A few times.

(Does Lup and Taako throwing spells at her to help her with her shields count? Sort of. Oh Gods, she should really be trying to set a better example.)

Wizard fights aren't– they're not good, though, Taako. You shouldn't get into them.

[spellslots]

I know that, I'm not stupid.

[Getting into fights is dangerous, he mostly spends his time hauling Lup away from them.]

But they're cool to watch!

[scholiast]

That's true. Have you seen a lot?

(She doesn't know a lot about Taako as a child, she realises. He and Lup are tight-lipped about their past, but Lucretia isn't sure if that's because they don't want to talk about it or just because they don't think it's important to talk about.)

I saw one once, but grandpa used to tell me stories sometimes.

[About adventurers and wizards and all that cool shit.]

[scholiast]

Oh, sure.

You know, when you grow-up you'll be able to cast spells like this.

(Uh oh, is she supposed to tell him things like that? Oh well. Too late now.)

[And with that one sentence, Lucretia just blew tiny Taako's mind.

He's in heaven, almost, because there's one quick clarification he needs to make.]

Can Lup do it too?

[scholiast]

(Aw. It's worth any future fuckery for the look on his little face.)

Yeah. She's even better than me at making things explode.

Oh, duh.

[Even if this is brand new information it suddenly makes a lot of sense. Of course Lup is really good at blowing things up.]

What do I do? It's not abjuration is it?

[Because like. on one hand it's boring, but on the other hand he can see himself picking it up to balance Lup.]

[scholiast]

(She raises an eyebrow at his expression, mouth curling into a smile.) Excuse me, I'm right here.

And it's transmutation.

[He knows!!!

He just doesn't care.

He's more interested in the transmutation thing, seeming to give it some serious consideration, even though he doesn't know a whole lot about it aside from turning things to other things. It sounds useful, though.]

That's pretty cool, as long as I can still cast fireballs sometimes.

[scholiast]

You can definitely cast fireballs Taako, don't worry about that.

(She puts a hand on his head, and ruffles up his hair.) D'you want to go get something to eat now?

[spellslots]

[Things Taako doesn't get a lot of from adults: affection.

He kind of wants to protest but just ends up huffing a little and looking away, a little embarrassed.]

Yes, please.

[Apparently hair ruffles were the secret to unlocking manners.]

[scholiast]

(Aw. Lucretia smiles, a little sadly. It's strange to know Taako like this, so young and mostly well-behaved.)

Okay. Let's get going then.

[spellslots]

Try to keep up!

[He's still a lil bit of a shit, which is why he half runs, half skips back towards the market, assuming Lucretia will be able to keep up. Her legs are a lot longer than his, after all.]

[scholiast]

(They are, so she's able to keep up just fine if she does a half-hearted power walk. She's forgotten what children are like.)

What's the rush for, exactly? The food isn't going to go anywhere.

[spellslots]

You don't know that. What if you change your mind?

[He's gotta make this deal worth it while the going's still good.]

[scholiast]

(Future Taako's trust issues are starting to make sense to her now.)

I'm not going to change my mind. Promise.

[spellslots]

Okay, okay. [He slows down a little, even if he's still kind of excited after the fireball and for the prospect of free food.] Do you know what kinda food is good?

[A lot of it is unfamiliar.]

[scholiast]

(She falls comfortably into step beside him. This is much better, because now her robes billow out behind her as she walks and it looks really, really sick.)

I've been enjoying the way fish is typically prepared here.
