who: Stephen Strange and you!
what: Home repairs
when: June 13
where: The Sanctum Sanctorum! Or… what’s left of it anyways!
warnings: Stephen being an idiot.
The Library
[He was… glad to see the Sanctum, to be sure. Even if it was damaged. But he still held his breath almost instinctively as he went inside, to take stock of the damage that wasn’t visible on the outside. He knew the Empirikul gotten in, but it was a question of what they’d managed to do. Which was a hell of a lot from the looks of things. Debris had been cleared out sure, but even still the evidence of destruction was everywhere. Streaks of black from the energy of their weapons, cracked drywall and doors missing altogether where they had to brute force their way past enchanted locks. Dark wide swaths of char and ash in the living room where they’d literally burned the forest to nothing.
Anyone that came in and went beyond the barren front room would find him still there, frowning out the window, one arm braced against the wall. Behind him, Wong paced with small huffs and grumbles, as if the pup was uncertain what to do with his person in such a mood.]
Repairs
[Stephen Strange was not a carpenter. And he never counted building as one of his hobbies. But the state of the Sanctum had him pissed off enough that he didn’t want to just leave it like that. Even if all he could do was just work on sealing the place up again before he took proper stock of the damage, it was something.
Anyone coming by would find the sorcerer up on the roof, nailing down a tarp over the hole that once had been a window. Or trying to anyways. If anyone followed him up the ladder they’d hear the way he was cursing under his breath the entire time he was fighting against too-shaky hands to actually hit the damn nails.
Fuck but this was a pain in the ass.]
Wildcard
[Let me know if there’s another prompt you’d like and I’ll make it happen!]

Are you sure? It looks like you've got a lot to do, and I don't see anyone else here helping you out. If you like, I can give you a hand - your hands could probably use a rest.
[ GOSH Strange, you're so strange not wanting help. ]
no subject
I don't need help. [Yes he does.] And my hands are fine.
[Whoops Marinette accidentally poked the pride button, this is Strange grabbing the hammer to get back to it like he was going to prove a point.
Pretend he's cussing because he's annoyed when he swings on the next nail and not because all this hammering is not doing his hands any favors.]
no subject
No offense, but you're only going to hurt your hands worse if you force yourself to work when they're already sore. I know that from experience.
[ AND YOU'RE OLDER THAN I AM. goes unsaid. ]
You know, having more than one person helping out will help you get this done a lot faster too.
no subject
[Okay that might have been a bit snappier than necessary. Sorry Marinette, he's avoiding dealing with Big Issues by ignoring them and being a bastard coated bastard.]
Not enough hammers to go around. [SO THERE.]
no subject
Well, you could always lend me the hammer, or I could do something else to help out if you want to do the hammering.
[ Amazing she hasn't lost her patience with him. ]
How did it end up this way, anyway?
no subject
Ugh, being semi-decent was hard.]
Fine. Pass me nails when I need them. [Just gonna nudge the box into her hands and get back to work.]
Someone took offense to my winning personality. [That was as close as he was getting to apologizing today Marinette so you'd better appreciate it.]
no subject
[ Gee, she can't imagine why. Also if he wants tips on being semi decent, Marinette will be MORE than happy to help with that. ]
Someone here? Did you report it to the guards? [ She bets he didn't. Typical, he just had to handle it on his own, so silly. ]
no subject
This happened back home. Not sure why the Sanctum showed up in this state, but it is what it is. The guards can't do much about it.
no subject
Ohh.. [ She kinda wishes her home were here. But alas. It's probably better for it not to be. ]
Well it shouldn't take too long to fix up. [ A few days, max right? Surely. Okay maybe longer, but he's in good company at least! ]
Oh, I never even introduced myself did I? I'm Marinette.
no subject
Exactly. No time at all. [Yeah right, more like way too long for his comfort.
Also, excuse you Marinette, why are you introducing yourself you make it sound like he's not getting rid of you as quickly as he might like once the tarp is nailed down.]
Stephen Strange.
no subject
Nice to meet you, Mr. Strange.
[ Bet he's never heard that one before :3 And what, you mean she can't come over for visits and chats? What does she have to bribe you with cookies? She doesn't offer to shake hands because she'll drop the nails for that, so that part of the pleasantry can wait. Instead, she offers a nail, ready and waiting. ]
Can I ask you something?
no subject
Doctor, actually. [At least he doesn't seem too upset about the difference. Not like she knew or anything. And poor Marinette, food bribes don't work when you can't eat them! She could always make friends with his dog though and use that as an excuse to come around more often.
But the nail is accepted, Stephen pausing to quirk a brow at her.]
I don't see why not. Go for it.
no subject
Oh! Sorry, Dr. Strange. [ She's quick to correct herself. Also gosh, why can't he eat them, she's an awesome cook. Well. A good cook. Your figure is -fine- Strange, goodness! ... she was totally fine with befriending a pupper though. ]</small Well... what's Your opinion of this place? I mean its really peaceful - almost too much so, not that I'm complaining - but I know a lot of people are here under protest. Technically I'm one of them - do you think the natives here are telling the truth about trying to find those of us who want to go home, a way home?
no subject
And he can't eat anything that's not elderitch horror-terrors that taste like war crimes. Comes with the territory of being him.]
Honestly? I'm not sure. I'm not seeing the signs of 'we're faking it' that usually trip my suspicions. They're fairly open about their attempts and studies, don't seem to be trying to hide information. Best option I've found that serves well is to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Best case here, they're on the level and trying to get us home. Worst case either they're all lying, or there's some other group that we're not aware of that's orchestrated the whole thing that neither the natives or we're aware of.
All I can say for sure is to pay attention to what's going on. Take notice of how people act, especially those in power. Note where they say you can or can't go, and why. The things they talk about when they either don't notice you, or think you're not going to get it because you're a kid. What the native citizens avoid talking about, where they avoid going beyond simple 'not wanting to get eaten by wildlife' avoidance. What information is easily accessible and what seems to be kept away from you. Might not answer everything, but it'll give you enough information to start drawing your own conclusions about this place.
no subject
Yeah I've... thought a lot about the same. It's just - it seems almost TOO peaceful. With the exception of those plants outside the walls, I mean. I don't like to think that they might be hiding something.. I guess I can be a little too trusting at times. [ Says the girl who almost had her bag stolen by a idolpire, and who just invited herself up on a strange man's roof to help with repairs. . . ]
You're right, of course.. I haven't been here long anyway, so I'll just have to keep an ear out for trouble. [ Which means she's got to step up her nightly excursions. ] Paying a trip to the library would be a start too and I wouldn't be surprised if other people here have had the same concerns.. so it would be nice to see if they found anything ...untoward out.
[ She doubted it though. Everything seemed to be on the level, which made her happy. ]
