prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

[ THAT'S NOT VERY MATURE. But also Jim is yelping and laughing at the pinch, which he returns with fierce intensity. ]

Stop that! And I wouldn't say three. Wouldn't do away with your sleeping bag just because I'm there, if I were you.

[ A wheedling whine complains about the pinching as he scoots away a little, aiming a light kick at Jim's shoe. ]

I'd rather suffocate with the zipper pulled all the way closed than chance seeing your ugly James Dean chin at night!

[winscenario]

[ Jim huffs, almost as if he's utterly offended by that insinuation. How dare you, sir. ]

Excuse you? James Dean wishes he'd had a jawline like mine. [ He tips his head up and cups his own jaw and chin, stroking it pointedly. ] Besides, if we're talking about ugly ass chins...

[ He gives Loki's a meaningful look, brow raised and head tilted just so. ]

[ikols]

[ The most wounded exclamation in history; ]

I am a vision!

[ Slap-fight, it's happening; gently for Loki, who doesn't want to actually hurt Jim. But is totally aiming for his cheeks. ]

[winscenario]

[ Jim yelps in a rather undignified way at that. Leaning back, he instantly reaches out and tries to catch Loki's wrists so he can stop that ridiculous slap fight. Is this seriously what Norse Gods are like, for crying out loud. ]

A vision from a nightmare, at best!

[ikols]

[ He lets his wrists be caught, resorting to kicking ineffectually at Jim's ankles. ]

What sort of captain are you, beating up your crew like this! I demand you walk all the planks!

[winscenario]

Beating up? You're the one trying to hit me! Hold your tongue, Ensign, or I'll be the one throwing you overboard.

[ And right into a lake. Don't you doubt him. ]

[ikols]

Ensign, ew. More like ... [ ummm, which other positions are there, ] ship's councillor who knows all your dirty little secrets!

[winscenario]

[ Eyebrow raise. ] A ship's counsellor still has a rank, you know. And even then, that wouldn't mean I'd magically reveal all my secrets to you. [ Yeah, good luck with that. ]

[ikols]

No?

[ Sidling into Jim's personal space (slippery sucker moves fast!!!) with his wrists still caught, Loki bats his lashes and drops his tone to a purr for dramatic effect. The green of his eyes dances with mischief in the firelight. ]

But what if you wanted to, Captain?

[winscenario]

[ Sneaky little bastard. Jim holds the gaze for a second or two before finally letting go of his wrists, huffing a chuckle and shaking his head as he turns back to the food. ]

I wouldn't. [ Pointing a finger at Loki, ] And none of that getting into my head crap, if that's somehow part of your abilities.

[ikols]

[ Pretending to bite Jim's finger, Loki nudges him with an elbow and the concentrated peer on his face relaxes. ]

I wouldn't influence you for that, not ever. Not sure how I could bear to look at myself if I did.

[winscenario]

[ Finger is withdrawn, you naughty little god. Jim nods, satisfied enough with Loki's reassurance. ]

Good. I'd expect as much. [ He doesn't care much what myths have to say about the god; what Jim knows of Loki so far makes him feel at least a degree of trust towards him. ] I say we dig in for real now, I'm starving.

[ikols]

Okay, but if I touch it, I keep it.

[ He does leave Jim some choice cartons, despite angling for a playful fight over the food. It isn't until a half-hour later, rubbing his belly where he lies on his back on a blanket under the tent, that Loki peers at the stars and pensively asks, ]

Are you a natural blonde?

[ Deep questions from the food coma. ]

[winscenario]

[ How very generous and mature of Loki. Still, there's plenty for Jim to pick from, and he's definitely not left feeling hungry by the time they're done. Later, as Loki lazes around underneath the tent, Jim's gathering all the leftovers into a lidded container, and putting all the trash into another, closing it all up just in case the smell might attract any wild animals.

He looks over his shoulder, eyebrows raised and a lopsided grin on his face. ]

Yes. [ What even. ] Did you really think I dyed my hair?

[ikols]

[ Giggling was not made for lying on ones back, but he can't help it. He drags his attention away from the stars and instead watches the upside-down figure of Jim pottering around their tiny campsite. ]

A little? The Kirk I know of is more ... ginger.

[ Loki rolls onto his side to smother a smirk in his pillow. ]

[winscenario]

[ Jim sets the containers down nearby, pausing before he gets to tending to the campfire. He turns around where he's sitting instead, so he's facing Loki more properly. ]

Seriously. [ Chuckling, he picks up a tiny piece of branch and throws it at Loki. ] Stop pulling my leg, you ass.

[ikols]

I'm serious! [ Don't throw your protests at the truth, wow!! ] And he had a permanent little food baby around here ...

[ Patting his own belly. ]

[winscenario]

[ Jim looks somewhere between alarmed and skeptical. He also settles a hand on his own stomach. ]

Well— that's all fine for him, but I'm perfectly fit. And also not ginger.

[ Not that he's exceedingly shallow, but there's nothing wrong with being a little vain, alright. ]

[ikols]

Maybe it's what happens as you get older ... One day you'll wake up and all the allure of that hot bod will be as attractive as wet broccoli.

[ Chinning a hand, he kicks his feet up where he lies in the tent like a gossiping teen girl. ]

You have my condolences in advance.

[winscenario]

[ Jim would almost sound offended if he even let that teasing get to him. It's not like he doesn't work out and stay active, so even if that does happen, it won't be anytime soon. He'll make sure of it. ]

Keep that up, pretty boy, and I'll wake you up with a bottle of water emptied down your face in the morning.

[ikols]

As I was saying, if you let me finish amongst all your threats ... [ He raises his chin with sweetly amends, ] It's reassuring to know your beautiful soul will outlast the sway of time.

[winscenario]

Oh, and you're a 'beauty's on the inside' sort of guy, are you? Good to know.

[ Please, Jim knows when he's being teased. Putting the containers back into their bags, he gets up and moves towards the tent, nudging lightly at Loki's arm with his foot. ] Scoot.

[ikols]

One-hundred percent the opposite of shallow.

[ Which he ruins the appearance of five seconds later when he moans and gurgles in protest when told to move, doing so with faux-reluctance. ]

Ugh, your big butt is twice the size of mine ...

[ But scoot Loki does, squirrelling down in his sleeping bag and pulling a fur blanket over himself. He offers the other side of it to Jim, if he's cold, although with Loki providing a wealth of creature comforts it would be surprising if he was. ]

[winscenario]

[ Jim chuckles at that, not taking him the least bit seriously. ]

Don't flatter yourself, you're not that svelte.

[ Wiggling into a comfortable position next to Loki, he looks over at the blanket for a moment before accepting it. He's not particularly cold but it's still a pretty nice blanket, so. ]
