introductory mingle: PRIJATA
what: Introductory Log and Prijata Celebration
when: June 1st - June 8th
where: Anywhere around the city.
warnings: please put any necessary warnings in the subject lines

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.
i. gift fountain
While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.
Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.
This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.
ii. speed-friending
This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!
For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!
iii. club exhibition
Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.
And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.
iv. unveiling the new friendr
Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.
The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!
Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!
v. roommates or wildcard
Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

[ He doesn't mind as much as he could. The names, as obnoxious as they were, remind him of Marcus, his foul-tempered and fouler-mouthed mentor, and friend. He misses him. ]
The part where you stop calling me stupid names, and I get you another glass of whiskey. Blondie.
no subject
[And he was more than happy with that fact.
The nickname, such as it was, had him laughing.]
That your worst? Come on, Teacher. You can do better than that.
no subject
[ Said ferocious canine has returned indoors to nap quietly in his doughnut-shaped dog bed in the corner of the room. He's as much a risk to Spike now as he will be in the future, which is to say, none at all, providing Spike doesn't attack his master.
John gets up to grab the bottle, refilling both their glasses, and leaving it out on the coffee table in case either one of them wants to top up. Now that they're in, he's not too concerned with staying sober. He only has to stumble so far as the bedroom when they call it a night. ]
Shirley Temple? Hell, I don't know. I've never been good with nicknames, to tell you the truth. I'm not the creative one- wasn't the creative one.
no subject
[Rude, John. And here he'd gotten the man home in relatively one piece. Might as well just call him Elmo.]
We've all got our cross to bear. Mine is leaving a good looking corpse. Yours is... well. You.
no subject
[ John clinks his glass against Spike's in a one-sided toast. After another generous sip, he loosens his tie and stretches out his legs, sinking back into the couch. ]
How's Shirley, for short?
no subject
no subject
[ He fusses with the kerchief tied around his wrist, tugging at the knot. The bleeding stopped a while ago. He has half a mind to pull it off. ]
You know anyone else, here? I mean, from back home.
no subject
[The last thing he needed here was someone from home. Like Angel. Or one of the Scoobies. Or... Buffy. Ugh.]
I like Passions, myself. If you're going to watch trash, embrace it.
no subject
[ John Wick is not up to date on his soap operas. Even retired, he spends most of the day committed to some task, whether it's gardening, housework, or screwing around beneath the hood of his car, much to Aurelio's chagrin.
He unwinds the kerchief from his wrist, tucking it back into his pocket, seemingly unphased by the dried blood staining the silk square. The gash on his wrist has already clotted, and will probably heal faster getting some air. ]
I'm more of a book-worm, myself. I used to have a lot of books. Old ones, especially. Half the fun was finding them. Wherever I went, I'd look. No matter which country I was in, there was always some little shop, somewhere hidden, dusty, forgotten, that would have something I'd never seen before. Always a little wear and tear, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with some elbow-grease and a book press.
no subject
You would have gotten on with Giles. A Watcher and his books... 'Course, it didn't hurt he started to run the magic shop. Or that he had a little witch on his team. Bet you I could have shown you some books you wouldn't have seen elsewhere.
Though, to tell you the truth? Even I get a little creeped out by the ones printed on human flesh. Blood, I'm good with. But skin's just... nasty.
no subject
I'm fine not seeing those, thanks. I'm not a squeamish man, but I like my books to be made out of paper, not people.
[ That calls for another drink, too. He pours himself, and Spike, another glass. ]
Can't say I believed in magic until I got here. Not in the traditional sense. Ghosts, demons, and curses, maybe, old things that can't be explained, but none of the hocus-pocus.
no subject
That's the way it always goes. No one believes in what's behind the curtain until they see it fluttering. Even then, most tend to look the other way because people just don't want to know what else is out there.
no subject
[ In John's mind, he's no less a monster than Spike is. The difference is that John's human, and he can't blame his darkness, or his violence, on anything but his own damned self.
This last drink was one too many. John knows as soon as the whiskey touches his lips, but he swallows it anyway. His head is buzzing in a way that's both strange, and pleasant, but mostly quiet, and he doesn't want that to go away. Not yet.
All John can hear is the sound of their voices, their shared breath, and none of the voices in his own head. ]
Soft and stupid, it doesn't sound so bad. Sounds peaceful, maybe.
no subject
Why do you think so few of them fight once they get to a certain point? This world-- any world, it's hard. It's hard and bitter and burning, and every morning most people have to wake up to some bit of broken in their lives. Sometimes it's easier just to let it go.
no subject
[ He turns in his seat to look at Spike, his eyes large and dark, more questioning, and fearful, than his voice can convey.
John's been asking himself the same question every morning he's woken up, since the day he let Helen go. Why can't he let go, and why shouldn't he? What would happen if he did? What's out there, in his old world, or in this one, that's worth living for, suffering for, or holding onto?
John wants to know, and he doesn't. ]
no subject
[His head is rolled a little on the back of the couch, letting blue eyes meet brown as he lays it all out there for the man who'd let him in his home.]
no subject
[ John doesn't look away. In this moment he needs Spike, needs someone, to talk to. To hear him. See him. John, the man, not Baba Yaga, or even John Wick. If only to remember that he's still there. Still here, and not lost to the shadows, of which he's almost certain he's become. ]
What if you want to, but can't?
no subject
I let her take me. And after...
[It wasn't the same thing. Not for him. Not for John.]
What she was offering had to be better than what I had. And for the rest of the world? Why do you think so many people believe in one god or another? No one wants to be the responsible one. Everyone wants it to be on someone else's shoulders. If they let someone kill them, it's not on them, is it? And if it happens, then it was meant to be, all because some fictional deity willed it.
Though, it's the ones that have lost that let go the easiest. The ones with wee ones in the crib or someone waiting for them at home, they fight. They kick up a fuss and scream until they get a little too sleepy. The ones that wake up broken... they're the ones that all but tip their head for it. You can always tell. It's in the eyes. Broken bits always show through in the eyes.
no subject
[ They're dead, or John's killed them. Like he kills anyone and everyone that gets too close, eventually. Leaving himself alive, and alone.
He doesn't know how to stop. Can't stop. John will keep fighting, and keep killing, until he eventually kills himself, and dies a dog in the street, having fought itself to death.
John shuts his eyes, afraid of what Spike might see, but the wetness leaks through his eyelashes. He can't cry here, now, in front of this person, even if some part of him would gladly break just to do it. To be free, if only for a moment.
His voice is hoarse when he speaks again, raw, like he'd swallowed the glass down along with the half-bottle of whiskey. ]
Was it better?
no subject
[Love. Birth. Sex. It all hurt just a little, or sometimes more than a little, but it was always worth it.
He heard the change in tone, didn't turn away when he saw that bit of a notch in John's armor. They all had it. All the broken types like themselves. Nothing to be ashamed of.]
I could, if you wanted. Doesn't have to be now. Or tomorrow. But if you want to let go... I could take you.
no subject
[ John opens his eyes again, looking at Spike, with such wet, open, vulnerability that he almost flinches away just to meet him.
It's too much for John, and yet, not enough. Never enough. Spike's right. There's a hole inside of John, and maybe not now, or tomorrow, or the next day, but eventually, it will consume him. He doesn't want to face it alone. The thought of it, being flayed down to his bones, until there's nothing left but his skeleton, and the emptiness of where his heart once was, is John's worst fear.
That none of the man who loved will be left, only the man that had lost. The animal. The monster. Baba Yaga.
John swallows hard, drawing his arms in close around himself, holding himself, resting his cheek against the cool leather of the couch. Exhausted mentally, emotionally, and physically. ]
Yeah, I want you to take me. When it's time. It'll be fast, won't it?
no subject
Of course, that mixed vulnerability could have something to do with all the alcohol flowing through their veins and finding someone that suited the dark as much as he did, but he meant it.]
I can make it fast. Like a flash. Only question is, do you want to come back? It's different, when you do. Slipping off's easy, but coming back... coming back is fun.
[And yes, maybe he wanted a partner in crime.]
no subject
[ John's eyes slip closed again, his head nodding forward. They won't be opening again until morning, or whenever it is that his body's decided is enough. It's been a long day, and an even longer night, and John feels stripped in every sense of the word. ]
I'll... think on it.
no subject
[Spike's hand moves to rest on John's thigh for a moment. A light, companionable pat. A touch so that one bit of dark could let another bit of dark know it wasn't alone. Then he reclaimed his hand and downed the rest of his drink, setting it on the table and leaning back, to slouch down and get comfortable.]
You do that, mate.
