prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

» Preferences: sexual preference or n/a

base code found here.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

[Illya turns to look at whoever he’s talking. As always when he starts a conversation with someone he doesn’t know he tries to asses them, first. If only to see if he should put up a defense or act more casual. They seem to also be distrustful of the present, so he decides casual will do for now. He nods, glancing down at the box he’s holding.

It’s not that he doesn’t like presents, but usually he knows who they come from and what the purpose of said present is. He likes efficient presents that he can actually use, and anyone who’s close enough to him to want to give him one knows that. But this… he doesn’t even know who gave it to him. It’s all pretty vague.

His lips purse down in a frown.]

It could be… anything. Gifts from an unknown sender make me nervous.

You sound more concerned about that fountain's motives than I am. [ It's partially a compliment, partially snark - she's plenty concerned with what the hell could come through that fountain. Most people she'd seen had seemed so happy with their gifts, others... well. She's just hoping she doesn't get anything unpleasant or .. parts of a certain autoreiv. Nothing was out of the running, after all, if this fountain could bring anything from her home world.

The best she could hope for was something mild. Maybe one of her grandfather's old, now lost, volumes - ]

For the record, most people have seemed very happy or relieved to see what they've received.

It still doesn't make me comfortable enough to just go and pluck a box out of a water feature, though.

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Illya gives her a one shouldered shrug, but it’s pretty clear that he’s mostly amused.] The fountain is of no concern to me, I doubt it even has any motives. But there has to be someone behind it, someone behind all these presents. No one gives anything away, you must work hard to earn it and we have done nothing to earn all these gifts.

[He’s mostly afraid the price to pay for all of them will be revealed later. That, and there’s a lot of things he could get from back home that would automatically out him as a spy so he’s definitely not going to open his box in public.

He glances at her.]

Have we met before?
realimperfect: (we wrote a story in the fog)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-12 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)

I doubt it's one person alone behind all of this to-do, but I understand what you're saying. My concern is that nothing 'free' is ever really free, in one way or another. I wonder what will be expected after this.

[ She came from a place, at least, where no favor was given freely. After all, Daedalus had allowed her to go to the outside world, and even after nearly dying and being released from the hospital he'd asked her to help him save face with her grandfather. Needless to say all of this charity so far as money given when they arrive and now this fountain makes her suspicious.

His question is met with a shake of her head 'no.' ]

We haven't, I just noticed that you seemed as on edge as I am about receiving a gift from home.

I suppose the best I could hope for is one of grandfather's old volumes. I didn't get to read enough Shestov before it all went to hell.
nikolaievich: (38)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-13 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods as he glances back at his present, because she seems to get it. They were kidnapped to this place, yes, but they are also given a place to live and a source of income should they accept the job. Illya won’t lie to himself by pretending everything is bad in this place, so of course there will be a price to pay. And now, this…

But then she mentions Shestov and his mind gets completely sidetracked as he frowns at her.]

You know Shestov?
realimperfect: (they think my lover is strange)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-14 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)

It was something I was given to read a few times, yes. [ Daedalus liked to give her philosophers she may not necessarily agree with just to 'stretch her boundaries' as he called it. No sense in living in a small part of what she could, and, in hindsight, he'd also been probably trying to get her to view life outside of her grandfather's guidance and thoughts as well. She'd not realized it at the time, but now it's nearly glaringly obvious. ]

My doctor liked giving me different things to read. Expanding the directions in which I could think is how he worded it, most times. Some of it was torture, but I remember that volume in particular from Grandfather's library was in good condition.
nikolaievich: (31)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-15 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Illya nods. Shestov wasn’t a big part of his studies (it’s very obvious which philosopher was the one the communist talked about the most) but he still remembers his explosive kind of writting.]

He was a Russian man, like I am. [His entire demeanor has kind of shifted now, from his usual kind of resting bitchface to a more relaxed stance. He won’t trust anyone just because they happen to be familiar with Russian philosophers, but it does mean they are open to ideas.]

But when it comes to reading I have always been partial to Tolstoy. You know him?
realimperfect: (they think my lover is strange)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-16 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)

I know of Tolstoy, too. Daedalus made sure I read from many different people and often. [ He'd been feeding her lines that he shouldn't have, looking back on it. Giving her things to consider that no one who was trying to be a good 'fellow citizen' of Romdeau dome would ever entertain. Mainly because they were meant to be docile, and knowing that she could think in many possibilities...

It had stirred trouble, in the end. But there's no sense in worrying about it now. Romdeau was well and truly behind her. ]

He also had me read Descartes, Sartre, Beauvoir...
nikolaievich: (38)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-17 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods as he raises an eyebrow, which... is Illya's way of showing excitement. He's actually kind of impressed so far by her education, most educators don't bother with a lot of those philosophers.]

Daedalus is your...tutor, I assume?
realimperfect: (the ending is the same every damn time)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-19 03:07 am (UTC)(link)

My doctor, actually. [ And a personal friend, but it was easily to just say 'doctor.' Daedalus referred to himself as such, after all, so there's no reason to sit and pretend like he wasn't. In the end, he'd been the one to actually give her life, in the strange way that it was achieved in Romdeu Dome. Still, the title fit best and didn't carry the baggage of explaining - ]

He wanted to supplement what I was given to read educationally. Teaching me how to think differently.
nikolaievich: (35)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-20 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Illya tilts his head, processing that answer. A doctor who seemed to be in charge of her education, or least pretty involved with it? Or perhaps simply a doctor who spent so much time around her that they had just become close enough to discuss that kind of things. He wants to ask, but he knows he has to tread carefully. People remember someone who asks too many questions.]

I’m Alexei, by the way. I hadn’t give you my name yet. [A curt nod.] Sorry.
realimperfect: (how you laughed when you said my name)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-21 01:01 am (UTC)(link)

Re-L. It's no problem, I did approach without an invitation. [ She's happy that he doesn't pry - her relationship to Daedalus was a complicated one, even now that he was technically dead in her version of the world. Things had been complicated in the first place, but how they'd ended off before everything had come crashing down in the end - she'd rather not thing about it all too hard. It's all dead (literally) and dusted for her. ]

This whole thing, festivals and all, is so bizarre.
nikolaievich: (Default)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-21 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
It’s a pleasure, Re-L. [He kind of pronounces it like it’s a single word. Reel. Sorry Re-L, it’s kind of hard with his accent, but he will get the hang of it.

As for prying, oh he’s curious. Very much so. And he will slowly but surely gather all the information he can about Daedalus by talking to her. But he learned long ago that people that just met you will be more open to sharing certain, private information if you act like you’re not after it.]

To be fair, so far all the festivals I’ve been to in this place have been kind of weird. But I’d rather have presents, even if mysterious, than having to dance around.
realimperfect: (how you laughed when you said my name)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-23 02:05 am (UTC)(link)

[ She bites down the urge to try and correct the pronunciation - no one around here would probably believe her in the slightest bit if she explained her problems with being called anything even close to 'Real.' And, well... she knows, somewhere, that it's nothing he's done on purpose. With some time it'll happen. Instead of correcting she takes a moment to breathe, remind herself about the virtue of patience and just.. move on.

She's happy for the change in subject, at the very least. This one she at least had a pretty good anecdote about - ]

The flower festival, I'm assuming? I was mostly shocked that there were multiple people tall enough to put flower crowns on my head. [ The blessings of being a tall woman, if she's honest - they were beautiful things, but also forced her to experience things like bees for the first time. More than slightly jarring, to say the least. ]

Not bad, all in all, but annoying.
nikolaievich: (20)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-23 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[He really doesn’t mean to insult her, but it’s probably a good thing that she didn’t tell him that. He’s already doing his best to put two and two together with the little information he has, that would definitely make him wonder even more.]

No one really tried that with me. [Probably for the better, he isn’t quite sure how he would have reacted to something like that. Probably as an insult, depending on who it was that put flowers on his head.]

But my first days here consisted of watching people dance all around and do little else. Considering I like silence it wasn’t the best of first impressions.
realimperfect: (they can't believe I made you weak)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-27 02:09 am (UTC)(link)

I was surprised they did it to me, honestly. [ But then again, very crowd she'd somehow wandered in to had happened to be very drunk most times, and she herself perhaps a little imbibed, but nothing too crazy. Maybe they'd thought she'd needed some lightening up - and it wasn't all wrong, really. She could use it, just, you know... not to the tune of flower crowns plopped on her head by random people she didn't really know, but such is life in Riverview Quarantine. Maybe she's settling in faster this time around thanks to not being nearly as paranoid as she was on the Eluvio, but...

She'd deny it if ever accused. ]

If you like a lot of silence you might as well get used to the clamor here. [ Re-L herself likes things on the quiet side, but.. she's beginning to se the good side of revelry. At least slightly. It's a break from sitting around and being 'refined' - whatever that meant anyway. ] There seems to be festival after festival.
nikolaievich: (047)

[personal profile] nikolaievich 2017-06-30 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Illya’s lips twitch downwards into a bit of a grimace. It’s probably pretty obvious, even to people who haven’t known him for that long that he doesn’t like changes in general, so the idea of ‘getting used to’ something he doesn’t like isn’t exactly pleasant.]

I don’t see why I should get used to it. I am already getting used to living here when I was basically kidnapped. And I do not think asking for some peace and quiet is too much.

But then again… [He glances at the present he’s still holding without opening.] I think there is a saying about a gift horse and its mouth that would probably apply to me.
