prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

For this prompt, you can either post your character's new, fancy Friendr app profile in the comments, or provide a link to their updated code in an entry on their journal. Whatever floats your boat!

v. roommates or wildcard

Feel free to use this prompt to set up headers for a communal floor, or threads open to roommates for the purpose of getting to know each other. Or if you have an idea for a prompt that isn't in this list, set during Prijata, feel free to write it up!

No, but if both groups get something out of it, then that tends to go over better.

[Not that she agreed with the methods. Or that what they got out of this arrangement remotely made up for being taken from their homes. If given the opportunity, she'd leap through a portal back to her world right now.

His next comment has her brows drawing together, a frown touching her features.]

Let me guess. You heard the whole spiel about 'monsters' and 'creatures' beyond the gates too?
manmade: ([SOFT] 9_9)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-07 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see how they benefit from people opening coffee shops or bringing civilian children here.

[Though he's not one to talk regarding the latter point.]

Yes, though I haven’t seen them for myself. [And he wasn't about to trust any of the documentation about them, not unless they're from a reliable source.] Did they also offer you a position with the Perimeter Guard?
couldkillthedevil: (Interrogation 2)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-07 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Point taken.

And no, not with the Guard. That seems more of a specialized military force than a civilian one, just from the little things I've heard. They assigned me to the Riverview Police Force as an officer. I'm — or was, I guess — a detective back home.

A detective?

[Now that got his attention. If she's worth her title, her observational skills would be useful in an ally.]

Are you going to accept? It could be a good way to keep an eye on things from the inside. [Though, admittedly, a risky one, too.]
couldkillthedevil: (Serious 3)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm planning on it, yeah.

[It's what she did, even if it was technically a demotion. Law enforcement was her calling; she couldn't see herself doing anything else, even in a literal new world.]

I don't know how useful it'd be, but it couldn't hurt. Besides, it's what I know best. Might as well do some good where it counts until I can go back home.

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-10 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I see.

[He looks thoughtful over her words; with a similar decision in front of him, he can't argue the merits of her choice. Perhaps he should consider it, himself.]

At the very least, it'd be more useful than if you did nothing.

[That could be encouragement, or just a statement of fact. It's hard to tell.]
couldkillthedevil: (Looking Behind)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-10 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I figured.

[There's a small quirk of her brows at that, just because yeah, she couldn't quite tell what that was supposed to be, but she'll take it in stride. Seemed like a pretty serious kid.]

What about you? They assign you anywhere specific yet?
manmade: ([VIVID] pic#11380340)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-10 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Specialized piloting and mobile firearms trainer for the Perimeter Guard.

[He says the title like he's not sure if he should be insulted or not.]

I don't like the idea of working for a potential enemy's military unit, but it could have its advantages.
couldkillthedevil: (Disbelief)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-10 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Seriously? He's just gonna have to be insulted then, because she never would've guessed that in a million years.]

That's a hell of a job to have right off the bat. But you could always say no, if you wanted. Or change your mind. It didn't seem like a mandatory assignment, from what I could tell.
manmade: ([BASE] pic#11382105)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-10 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Is it?

[He doesn't seem to agree; there's nothing impressive about it, as far as he can tell.]

To borrow your words, "it's what I know best." I'd have less opportunities in another position, but it's not a decision that should be rushed.
couldkillthedevil: (Looking Down)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-10 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
One isn't typically giving a job that involves military-grade weaponry unless they have some significant experience themselves.

[Hell, she had plenty of law enforcement experience and she'd been assigned as an officer instead of a detective. Not sure how that works.]

Fair enough. As you said, it does have its advantages.
manmade: ([SOFT] flustered)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-10 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Plenty of people have experience with mobile suits without being military, themselves. It's not that uncommon.

[And pardon him if he's going to be a little defensive about that fact; he's not too keen about drawing attention, and by implication suspicion, to his abilities.]
couldkillthedevil: (Eye Squint/Unimpressed)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-10 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not so much meant to be accusatory as much as an observation. Though the more defensive he is about it, the more curious she gets.]

'Mobile suits'? You mean like aircrafts?
manmade: ([SOFT] pic#11380347)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-11 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
No, not really. They don't exist in your world?

[She might as well have asked what a car was, based on his reaction. It isn't the first time he's run into someone who's never heard of mobile suits, but with how mundane he considers them, the surprise at being asked has yet to wear off.]

I suppose the best way to describe them would be humanoid combat vehicles.
couldkillthedevil: (Unimpressed)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-11 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
No. Definitely not.

[Said kind of dryly, if only because of how surreal the whole thing was.]

Humanoid combat vehicles. As in... robots?
manmade: ([BASE] pic#11393105)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-11 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[He has the tone of someone who's used to answering questions, or at least lecturing. ]

They aren't autonomous like a robot, since they require a pilot to function. But superficially, there is some resemblance.

[And while he dislikes how imprecise the comparison is, he's willing to roll with it; if "robots" are the first thing that come to mind, he doubts there's a more accurate example.]
couldkillthedevil: (Unconvinced)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-11 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Got it.

[She thinks, anyway. He's given her enough information to logically piece it together.]

And these are, what? Typical weapons where you're from?
manmade: ([SOFT] pic#11380386)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the most common, but they have other purposes than just that. Defense, recon, rescue operations...

[He glances away, his tone and expression growing frustrated.]

The only reason they're used as weapons is because people continue to fight.
couldkillthedevil: (Considering)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-13 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. Seems like our individual worlds aren't so different after all, at least in that respect.

[The same could be said for guns and other weaponry from her world, after all. Anything could be dangerous or helpful, depending on whose hands they were in.]

You said they needed a pilot to function. What kind of training goes into that?
manmade: ([BASE] pic#11380319)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-13 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's unfortunate to hear.

[It's a sincere remark; though her response isn't surprising to him, he can't help but hope at least someone here comes from a world without armed conflict.]

Other than the obvious, there's combat and technical training, as well as environmental conditioning and simulation runs.
couldkillthedevil: (Curious)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-13 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[No world was perfect, it seemed. From the small amount of people she's spoken to since arriving here, that appeared to be pretty universal.

But there's interest there in her expression as she purses her lips, considering the idea of robots— sorry, humanoid combat vehicles being such an every day staple in society.]

And do local cops use those, too? Or is that for more specialized experts?
manmade: he's wearing a dress in this icon btw ([VIVID] pic#11382094)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-14 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[The idea of local cops having mobile suits, especially under the kind of government that's been in power the last four years, is a horrifying thought.]

That would be overkill. Mobile suits are usually reserved for army use and other specialized forces.

[That she'd even think to ask makes him wonder if he's been doing a poor job explaining or if such shows of force are considered normal for her. The last thought is sobering.]

Are the police from your world generally armed that heavily?
couldkillthedevil: (Unsure 2)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-14 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's relieved to hear that, really. And that he's so taken aback by the concept. She holds her hands up as if to reject that notion, shaking her head.]

Absolutely not. But I've heard... quite a bit from a lot of people here. How their worlds are different. I was just wondering if the same could be said for yours.
manmade: ([SOFT] pic#11393215)

[personal profile] manmade 2017-06-15 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
[She's not the only one who's relieved; it would've been unfortunate and, from little he could tell, uncharacteristic if she'd been a detective for such an objectionable police force.]

It never got that far, no. So it's common for people to come from places that oppressive?
couldkillthedevil: (Listening/Serious)

[personal profile] couldkillthedevil 2017-06-16 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Her department has its issues. So many cops are just willing to brush aside cases if they aren't wrapped in a neat little bow, or looking the other way when one engages in criminal activities. It's why she was so disliked in her department for a long time.]

Apparently. One person was telling me earlier about their world being torn apart by nuclear fallout.
