prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

Eichi Tenshouin | Ensemble Stars!

i. gifts

[It's his first visit to the fountain that has Eichi leaning forward curiously and touching the water. Even if he's heard the method of receiving these "gifts," this magic sounds a little too good to be true, doesn't it? After all, who would do something like this for him? But sure enough, a box floats over towards him in the water, elegantly white with gold detailed wings patterned all over it, and a sparkling blue ribbon that unwinds as it unwraps itself. What it reveals is an old uniform of his, and one that has him actually stunned into silence as he takes the neatly folded pile into his hands.

He touches the gold wing pin in the center of it all, and then covers it completely with his hand.]

So, this is a joke of some sort, I see. [He mumbles to himself, used to keeping himself company in an empty room and finding no harm in doing it in public, at a crowded fountain. He backs away from it to make room for others, but still has to pause to frown down at it again.] This was meant to be retired completely.

ii. speed friends

[So, something brings Eichi over to this lonely looking table, politely offering a smile as he takes a seat across from a stranger. There are a number of shared interests that could draw him to someone. Music, dance, idols specifically, tea, flowers, flower language, and even history. One of those has drawn him over now, and he's not too shy to introduce himself.]

Hello. ♪ Eichi Tenshouin. It's nice to meet you.

[He would sign up for something like this and then be a little too formal.]

iii. tea club

[It's nostalgia that has him filling out the paperwork to try and recruit enough members for a club. His booth is occupied by him alone, currently, but decorated very neatly. It says "Tea Club" in cursive along the top, with cute little illustrations of tea cups and alice in wonderland type drawings. He has a few collectors teacups set out on the booth now, and he's offering some tea to anyone who glances his way long enough. A variety of types and information!!

It looks like this club is meant to be for those who want to relax and enjoy a peaceful time of tea among the flowers between everything else.]

[ She's momentarily surprised when Eichi sits across from her, actually jumping a little in her seat and giving him a briefly guilty look. She hadn't been doing anything wrong, but he might have caught her staring rather intently at someone beforehand. ]

Oh hi! Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Nice to meet you too, Eichi! [ She gave him a smile and offered a hand. ]

[He takes her hand with his own for a brief and friendly shake.]

Fufu, staring off like that, are you already more interested in befriending someone else?

[He couldn't help but notice that she'd been staring, so he turns now to try and peek at who, or what, she was looking at.]

[ She blushed sheepishly, shaking her head quickly. ]

Oh, no, it's not at all like that~! I was just looking at their clothing. Sorry about that, I wasn't trying to ignore you or anything.

[ The person in question was wearing a rather fancy hat, with feathers, fake berries and two plastic doves side by side. ]

You don't have to be ashamed of something like that, Marinette-chan. Is that a style of fashion that you admire?

[Or does she think it's tacky? Tell him, he's interested in this in the most nosy way. Nevermind any of their shared interests, first he wants to know about this.]

[ She laughs. ]

Well, sort of - but it's all types of fashion really. I want to broaden my view of different clothing styles and apply them to my own designs.

So you're a fashion designer?

[That gets Eichi to lean in a little more, clearly interested.] As an idol, something like that applies to me greatly, you know? If you'd ever like someone to critique your work, I can give you my opinions. I've never worked on lines myself, but I generally hire famous designers to create my uniforms.

[ Tsumugi's still a bit lost, and is even more confused when he ended up at the fountain and received his old fine uniform as well. This... is interesting. But like Eichi, he'd rather want to dispose this as well. It brings up too many bad memories.

Speaking of Eichi, he certainly didn't expect his former unitmate to end up here of all places either, and his eyes widen at the sight of him also holding their old attire. What's going on here? ]

E-Eichi-kun?

INHALES

[At first, he thinks he's hallucinating. A familiar voice like that, calling out to him while he's holding this uniform— he steps back, glancing back up at the fountain, and then around. But it's no hallucination, right? There, in his glasses and with longer hair like more modern days, is Tsumugi, holding that same uniform.

He doesn't understand, at first. What is this scene straight out of a movie? For some reason, his chest feels tight, and he realizes that he'd expected to never be able to see him again. Any of them.]

Tsumugi? [He can't avoid this. He can't ignore this... He steps closer to him, leaning like he's trying to see for sure if he's actually there.] When did you arrive in a place like this?

Very recently, actually...

[ He still doesn't know what's going on -- he has way more questions than answers right now -- but seeing someone familiar in this situation greatly relieves him. He closes the gap between them and pulls him into a tight yet careful hug. ]

I'm so glad that you're here! I thought I'd never see anyone from Yumenosaki again...

[ As though he just read Eichi's mind. ]

[He must have just arrived. Eichi is busy processing that when he's pulled into this hug, and that delays things even further. Clutching the folded uniform with one arm, the other moves hesitantly to return this hug. His squeeze is weaker in comparison, but it's still very much more than usual.

Words are what escape him right now. He thought he'd never see anyone... Eichi has been worried about that for months. He's grateful that Tsumugi didn't have to arrive here earlier and go through something like that for an extended period of time. For someone with fragile emotions like him, that would be hard, right?

He's stuck on what to say next. He's too stunned about the uniforms, about Tsumugi just showing up, to know what to do about it. Don't mind him just existing silently in this hug while it lasts.]

[exfine]

[ Haha, what emotions? Tsumugi may be relieved to see Eichi in such strange circumstances, but he still feels hollow inside. They did quick work just to quarantine someone like him, didn't they?

But Eichi being here just doesn't feel right somehow. Despite everything they had done, all the bridges they had burned, Eichi still has peers to talk to. He can't possibly feel left out back home. So why...

Ugh, more questions than answers. Right. They stay like that for a while, hugging each other in silence, both gripping their old uniforms. Fate really is cruel sometimes.

After a while: ] ...You must be hungry after all that. Let's grab a bite to eat.

[ Because it's not as if Eichi's having an internal conflict right now, Tsumugi. Some friend he is. ]

Can you think of food at a time like this? It's good if you can remember to eat, but when I first arrived, my stomach felt ill from the portal and I couldn't eat for a day.

[That was just Eichi, whose body cannot handle these things. No one else has complained about this. Still... Are they just going to pretend this is casual? Go get food and talk like they're not holding their old uniforms?]

[ Jon had no idea what idols or celebrities really get. The few articles he glanced over didn't give him much information to go on. One person apparently had a pet tiger? Or a large mansion with champagne baths? None of it made sense to Jon who has always had limited amounts of money. Getting a stipend from Miss Jones was the most money he ever had at any given time.

But Jon liked giving gifts. He liked that he had people to give gifts to. So maybe Eichi may not like it, but at least he could appreciate the gesture? After all, who doesn't like getting gifts? ]

Hi Eichi!

Jon-kun, hello.

[Who doesn't like getting gifts, indeed! Eichi has armfuls of them now. Bags wrapped with tissue paper strung over both arms make it a little difficult to walk around, but he's determined to get these all out to everyone he's met. If he tries to do separate trips, they'll never get out on time, since he'll be too exhausted.]

Are you taking a walk?

[supersweet]

Yeah.

[ He didn't want to stay cooped up at the house. Not with his mom leaving and all. He fishes out a present from his bag, pushing the sadness down. ]

I have a present for you.

For me?

[He has a bag for Jon around his arm, as well, but since he has so many, he can't pull it off just yet.]

That's so sweet of you, Jon-kun. Shall we do a gift exchange, right here?

[supersweet]

Sure, if you don't mind putting all your bags down.

[ And there seems to be a lot of them. ]

You've been busy.

It would be a shame if I didn't have a gift for anyone that I've met. Jon-kun gets one as well, but I'll save it for the end.

[Bending over, he sets them down one by one until his hands are empty.]

[Her next question is going to be'what are you doing?', but the design of the sign and the teacups catch her attention and immediately answer that. She can get on board with this. With a smile, she raises her hand and points toward the doodles.]

[He smiles, leaning forward over his little booth as he greets her with a chuckle.] Fufu, those doodles are nothing but scratches on paper. If a certain friend of mine were here, I'd show you his drawings and you could really praise him. ♪ Mine are nothing in comparison.

[They're still good doodles, even if they aren't museum worthy.]

Then you better introduce me if he shows up. Until then, you're the best artist I know.

Really? Fufu, I've left something important out about myself. ♪

[His love for tea!! How could he? He pushes a cup towards her, urging her to try some.] I collect teacups, as well. You see, tea has such a variety of flavors that it can never get boring. I'm not meant to have much caffeine, but the flavors and aromas are incredible, so I can't give it up.

[She could have gotten him tea related presents! Oh well, that helps with ideas for the next holiday. She makes a note of that on her mental list of Things People Like and takes the cup into her hands, raising it up to her face to smell it.]

You know, it kinda reminds me of being a kid again. Did you ever have tea parties when you were little?

To be honest, I have tea parties more now than I ever did when I was younger. I enjoyed tea, but I often wasn't allowed out of the house due to my health, so I didn't have many friends.

[He watches her with a soft smile, and of course he has his own teacup to the side that he's been refilling this whole time. He loves tea.]

I ran the tea club at my high school, you see, so I was able to throw them wherever I'd like. I want to do the same here, if possible. Did you have tea parties, then, Iris-chan?
