prijata

In the days leading up to June 1st, residents new and old will notice preparations beginning, a flurry of activity getting the city ready for the upcoming celebration: Prijata. Riverview Quarantine has a strong culture of love, and they celebrate all types - Prijata is a special celebration of platonic love and building community through friendship. Prijata traditions include gift exchanges between friends, sharing meals cooked together by friend groups, and a variety of events and services aimed at making friends.

a celebration of platonic love

Prijata is a relatively relaxed holiday, focused mainly on friendship and platonic love - dedicated to appreciating the friends already in one's life, and opening oneself up to making new friends. Besides the private giving of gifts between friends, there is also a city-wide government-sponsored gift fountain that is open throughout the entire week. Included in the wide variety of events catered to finding new friends, are 'speed friending' and a large open exhibition where all the specialized clubs in Riverview can recruit for new members - and residents new or old can create a club and recruit.

i. gift fountain

While Prijata gift exchanges between friends are generally a quiet affair, done at friend-group dinners or parties, the element of gift giving does extend outward - community-wide, in fact. Throughout the course of the week, anyone living in Riverview Quarantine can drop by the huge fountain in the City Center, in front of the City Hall. They will find that the fountain is chock full of floating gift boxes in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and different shapes - though none larger than a shoe box. There are signs put up around the fountain stating that the boxes are magic and will only seek and open for their rightful owners. Characters will find that, upon touching the water, a box will float over to them, and when they pick it up, the top will unfurl like flower petals, displaying the gift inside. Sometimes, the box won't appear on the first try, since there's only so much space in the fountain at any given time, but if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Every person in the city (including new arrivals) will receive one gift by the end of the week.

Gift fountain boxes will contain one small item from each character's home dimension (or, for CRAUs, from their previous game), similar to the "items from home" bonus reward, but without needing to spend points. The item should be small enough to fit in a shoebox, sentimental, and cannot be something intended for another person's character. ETA: If you can't think of an item like this that would work for your character, something of similar size and quality to what's described above that would make the character very happy can be substituted.

This prompt can also be used for gift exchanges and for characters to receive the Government-given gifts that were suggested in the Prijata Pregaming posts on the OOC community and the TDM.

ii. speed-friending

This is pretty much what it says on the tin! Much like speed-dating setups, many bars, coffee shops, and other places that people might gather are holding speed-friending! It's your standard setup - characters enter and fill out a quick questionnaire about themselves, and flit from table to table looking for someone with great friend chemistry. Not all of them are general and open to anyone who walks in, though, with many being specialized to people who are invested in certain hobbies, occupations, or with specific sets of interests. With specialized speed-friending setups ranging from horror movie buffs to members of the Perimeter Guard to fashionistas to sports or martial arts to video games, no matter what your character is into, they're likely to be able to sign up for a special event where they can go looking for a friend who's into the same things they are!

For this prompt, you can put up a list of hobbies or interests your character has, and compatible characters can hit them up for a speed-friending thread, like the IC equivalent of the CR meme!

iii. club exhibition

Speed-friending is all well and good, but not everyone is outgoing or open enough to know if they have friend chemistry in only a few minutes. For anyone looking to find groups of like-minded individuals they can spend more than a few minutes with before committing to something as daunting as a friendship, there is a week-long club exhibition happening in the Town Square in the City Center. Table after table and booth after booth are occupied by existing clubs in the city, with an incredibly broad scope of focus interests and hobbies - enough that any character should be able to find a club with their niche interest represented.

And if it isn't? Characters are welcome to start their own clubs - much like a business, a character-run club can have space set aside in the city for meetings and event mingles that are eligible for Activity Point Bonuses for the organizer.

iv. unveiling the new friendr

Prijata this year is marked by something special - the unveiling of a code rebuild of the ubiquitous Friendr app! Anyone with the app installed already will receive a prompt to update the app, and if anyone hasn't yet downloaded it, they'll receive a quick, easily-dismissed pop-up ad on their device when they next access the network, asking if they want to. No one is obligated, and the ad is a one-time instance, intended to make sure any character who hasn't heard of the app gets a chance.

The Friendr app is a swipe-left-or-right style friend matching and/or dating app that is very common in Riverview, both for PCs and NPCs, and it has received an upgrade with a new appearance, a new interests line for more accurate matching, and a wide variety of themes so that the colors can be customized!

Please see the updated appearance below, with the 'default' color scheme. Players are free to change the colors or appearance of the code but please do not remove the credit line showing where the base code came from, out of respect for the code creator.

i. gifting

[ When Angela visits the fountain, there is a long, slender box with her name on it. She picks it up, wondering what it could be. Inside, of course, is the flute which Sera had given her. She holds it close to her heart, and closes her eyes. She will not be brought to tears, but every reminder of the distance between herself and her love just stabs her in the heart.

She will hardly be separated from the flute for the rest of the festival. Though she does not know how to play it, she will refuse to put it down. ]

[ Loki avoids spending as much time as he can in the Communal Housing. He dislikes the congestion and the number of people around. Sid didn't help matters either. But his sister of sorts, he didn't mind as much. Oddly enough. The urge for violence doesn't rise. So Loki gives her a curt nod as he walks in. ]

Expecting a fight?

[ Angela spares the briefest of glances and her own curt nod for her not-brother before returning her attention to the blade. ]

One can never be too careful.

[ But that's not her real reason, and she'll admit as much, pulling back to inspect her work in the light. ]

...It calms me.

[ He nods. Having a weapon close by can be calming. A reassuring edge in a world that constantly changes around him. Loki may not have an Asgardian mentality to war and glory, but he has not lose his warrior's touch. ]

I imagine little does in this world where so many of us collide and confuse.

[ Angela takes pride in knowing her weapons at least as well as she knows herself. Anything she can do to have control over her surroundings, even in a small way, brings her no small amount of comfort.

She hums her assent, and, satisfied, moves to put her sword away. In opening the chest of her belongings, however, her eyes land once more upon the box with her flute in it.

She pauses. ]

Tell me, brother. Did any gifts await you at the festival?

[ Loki shifts on his feet, very deliberating considering his words. It's an allowance that he lets her see that play of emotions before he settles himself. ]

A pair of earrings I made for the Queen centuries ago. She had worn them at Thor's coronation.

[hevenly]

[ She notices, but does not remark on his hesitation. It would seem hers was not the only gift that meant a great deal to its recipient.

Rather than get bogged down by complex emotions, she latches onto something else Loki said. ]

The Odinson was crowned king? The All-mother stepped down willingly? [ If she sounds incredulous, that's because she is. ]

Please, don't apologize. It is not your fault we are separated. I only meant that, in lieu of her presence, I find myself wanting to hear other people's stories instead.

I just meant that I'm sorry you're separated at all; it sounds hard. How long have you been here?

I've chronicled a lot of stories while at my current job. Perhaps you'd be interested in some of those?

[ Giovanni is returning back from going out and fighting, so there's a little bit of dried blood on his face, but he looks otherwise unscathed. He gets up to the room and he doesn't even stop to clean himself up because he intends to hang around for only a short time before going back out. He's just going to get messy again, after all!

That sword is... very shiny.

And he has some appreciation for the sharp and dangerous things. ]

Planning to use that or just for show?

[ Angela spares a glance for the man, noticing the blood on his face but making no judgment on it. Blood is a common sight for a warrior, after all. ]

What good is a sword if it cannot be used?

I'm sure some people have them just for show.

[ How is he supposed to know which you are, Angela? Given, his experience is mostly with people who are very skilled with their swords. So - he's not surprised by the answer. ]

But I agree. No point in having it if you can't wield it. You'll get a lot of use with it here, I think.

[ Angela wears armor instead of clothes. She is not the type to put her weapons on a shelf for display. ]

Indeed. I am a member of the perimeter guard. My blade sees much use.

[ Never judge a book by it's cover, of course. He wears suits and ties, after all. He seems pretty pleased with the answer. ]

[ Observation was one of the things that Re-L Mayer can't quite seem to break from her routine way of behaving. After all, it was her job as an inspector and, at least partially, what she'd been born for in the scope of serving the Dome. Among other things, but she wasn't really the type to think in terms of all the ulterior motives of those around her.

She finds herself sitting to the side, watching those walking away from the fountain with their gifts. All of them seem to be significant, or symbolic. The flute, though, catches her attention. Maybe because it's been so long since she'd seen one, but she can't help her curiosity about it - ]

That flute... it looks very finely made.

[ Angela is stirred from her thoughts by the comments of a stranger. She looks up, still cradling the flute carefully in her hands. It is but a simple wooden flute, carved by Sera during one of their adventures in the Endworlds, but to Angela, it is representative of so much more. ]
