( closed ) lost research

who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!

Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.

Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.

The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.

Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.

[ ooc: this is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own top levels and/or tag around as much as you like! ]

How so? [ Of course she'd gone and nearly chewed Jim out over why robot sentience was a bad plan their very first meeting, so perhaps his banter with her seemed a little different. And well.. with McCoy being a mother hen at his worst concerning her it probably didn't help. She'd had enough discussions with the good doctor to know that he has a daughter her age and tries not to begrudge him when he defaults in to that 'fatherly' mode.

The key word being tries. ]
He can't handle a little skin, then, I'm guessing?

[ She pauses to look a little pensive at Peggy's question, a non-committal hum all she comes up with as she's dunking her hair to at least freshen it up slightly, straight black hair quickly turning wavy as she does so. ]

Potentially it can mean that this will be an easy recovery mission. My gut tells me that it may mean trouble before the end of the day, though. Particularly since we're walking in largely blind as to why they've disappeared. [ But she shrugs, then, and adds her usual caveat : ]

There's also a chance that they just didn't want to study anymore and disappeared themselves. Anything is possible with scientist types.

Not one bit, I'm afraid. Reminds me of an old friend.

[ he could have truly gave howard a run for his money in regard to being incredibly useful while also having far too many innuendos at hand. ]

They may have found more than they bargained for. Around these parts, that's not hard to believe. If they weren't prepared for it - if there is even a way to be prepared for this terrain. Not that many maps and books about this area.

Is that the sarcastic use of friend, or .. ? [ Of course, to her there's not really a big deal involved with showing skin. It kind of happens in a place where emotions are deemed unnecessary and along with that goes things like physical attraction. If there's no such thing as flirting or lusting then skin becomes just that. For most people of Romdeau at least. Re-L Mayer may not really be included in that equation. ]

True, anything is possible. I'm just not sure that too much quiet in the first place is all that reassuring, to me, is all. The last time I dealt with an all quiet there was a hell of a storm brewing on the back side.

[ Thankfully she'd been able to escape all of that though. ]

We'll see. I could be wrong about it all.

Not as sarcastic as I would like.

[ despite her frustrations and at time, annoyance, howard stark remains a true friend. it may say a lot about peggy's choice of friends and yet. ]

Well, if you are wrong, then I am too. I find this as unsettling as you do.

Glad I'm not alone in that for once.. [ There's a short, under her breath laugh. Many people around here seemed to either downplay their concern about any situation or just.. genuinely weren't concerned that nothing had occurred just yet, or about their new surroundings. It's all very glacial and placid for her, a little too trusting. But for now she thinks that, perhaps, she's just too paranoid about everything. That she needs to settle and allow herself some time to break away from old Eluvio and Romdeau habits before being so quick to assume. ]

We'll see soon enough I suspect. [ She lowers herself down to make sure to get behind her ears and the lot, satisfied for the moment that Peggy might notice anything that takes the moment to come at them. ] I'd be happy for an easy mission with an easy explanation, but hardly anything falls in to place all that easily anymore. It's just not in accordance to how my life works as of late.

At least if Vincent isn't here there's a small amount of insanity that's left in my home world.

Once it was enough to simply ask questions in a civilized manner, receive some answers, look into them. These days, it would seem we're all set on much more difficult tasks. Though,

[ if she reflects upon the whole matter ]

We haven't gotten many answers to look into at all.

[ she does smile at that last comment ]

Can't leave your world without a measure of instability.

The only difference in doing this - [ A flick of her hand indicates their current camping situation - ] And what I did back in the Dome is that this is actually outdoors. Trampling through who knows what hovel to find whoever it is you're looking for is about as entertaining either way.

[ Unless, of course, in classic Re-L fashion, it's wandering in the underbelly of the dome to find a dead proxy. Then suddenly it takes on an entirely new dimension, but then again, it's pretty apples to oranges. Immigrants in illegal living situations vs. finding things she's been told to stay away from have an entirely different kind of draw to them in completely different ways. The current trip? Not her favorite, but the level of exploration makes up for roughing it. ]

We're going to have to buck up and go further in to the Delta for that. Hopefully we won't be finding a bunch of bog bodies... I know I won't be volunteering for any exploration of that.

[ Re-L actually allows herself a small huff of laughter at that, nodding her agreement before elaborating. ]

Naturally. He just.. tended to bring along a new level of complication, nine times out of ten. I've gotten used to it, just.. the break is also appreciated.

The Dome is a place.

[ it's not a question as much as it is an observation. Sounds like training grounds held indoors but then again she only has a name to go on, Peggy doesn't rush to any conclusions regarding its nature. ]

It would be a rather gruesome ending but at least it would be an ending.

[ finally, a question with an answer. that would be a start. ]

Trouble-maker, is he?

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-05-31 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes. My home before this place was a city contained in a dome - [ She pauses as if debating if she should elaborate. Everyone usually asks about why it's all in a dome anyways as soon as she mentions it so it couldn't hurt to just explain it right off the bat. ]

The outside is still experiencing nuclear winter, hence the dome. Everyone asks off the bat anyway so I suppose it's easier to just explain.

[ Still, she doesn't want to deal with any of the mess of cleaning up or handling bodies when it comes down to it. At home autoreivs had taken care of the mess of clean up, but here ... she wasn't sure how these things would be sorted out and wasn't too keen on handling that either. Time would tell. Maybe they wouldn't find any bodies at all and the problem would be avoided in its entirety. ]

Yes. Some kind of conclusive ending will be best I think. No one wants to hear "I don't know."

Not quite. It just seems to find him actually... but he's the only other human I travel with currently, so there's only so much I can complain about him, honestly.

It was the radiation wasn't it?

[ there was great and extensive talk about the weapon that brought the end of the war. every part of peggy carter hopes she will never have to deal with anything nuclear in the course of her career.

she isn't naive enough to think it's more than just that, a hope. if she can rid the world of it -

but no. there's time for these sort of thoughts. ]

What else is there, if not humans?
realimperfect: (Default)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-06-04 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes. It's been a thousand years or so since the initial explosions and the outside is still harsh and desolate. [ Constant winter - she'd lived inside that huge white coat for the entirety of her life out in the lands outside, at least while she wasn't inside the rabbit where they could keep the temperatures considerably warmer. Everything around was either dead, mutated, or somehow surviving, including human-like creatures that Pino had somehow found and sought out.

That had been a bit of a wake up call. ]

Autoreivs. Robots is how most people refer to them here, or androids. They're fairly the same. Pino and Kristeeva are both autoreivs, just.. different types. They travel together with us, and don't need things like food, so they're a help.

Androids. I share my room with one, as it happens.

[ and that's why she knows the term. otherwise, it'd be as foreign as many others that seem to be natural to most others. ]

She said she never eats, only drinks water, won't even take tea.

Oh, you do? What do they call themselves? [ Color her curious - looking in to different levels of tech in this place has become something of a hobby when she discovered it. ]

I'm surprised they even drink. Autoreivs require no sustenance at all other than an electrical recharge at night.
