( closed ) lost research

who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!

Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.

Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.

The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.

Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.

[ ooc: this is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own top levels and/or tag around as much as you like! ]

-- Is it an animal of a sort? Good lord, Yuuri, the things that follow you home. Most people would get a kitten.

[ but then - ]

I can't begrudge you, however, It does seem more useful than the normal pet. Does it hear what we're saying?

I'm still not 100% sure. He's definitely alive, though--I've been trying to sit in on the professor's lectures to see if I can pick up some more information. [Yuuri grins at her now.] If it helps, I also have a dog. That's way more normal.

[He's just not going to mention the tribble that also came through the portal with him.]

All I know is, he's intelligent and he's got a personality just like any other companion.

What does he eat?

[ the kind of questions she's asking, honestly. ]

You know, things like these are beyond even children's books in my world and time.

[ god knows what's going on in the 21st century. there's a lot she would believe, now. ]

You know, I thought there'd be some special food I'd have to make for him, but he seems to like anything sweet. He doesn't really eat a lot when he does, though.

[Yuuri wonders if it's because he's a ghost of some kind, according to the information he's managed to gather from the professor.

Yuuri laughs quietly at her other comment.]
Trust me, even if we have elaborate stories in the later times, I don't think a lot of people actually thought they were real. Until you end up in a place like this, I guess.

This thing eats candy.

[ whatever's next? she eyes it yet again, arching an eyebrow. things in Quarantine are odder and odder but this is surely something else. still, a useful pet to have, she can abide by that, at least. ]

Think we'll have to eventually battle a dragon? Might put an end to some of my childhood's tales.

[ if only because she was the only girl determined on slaying the dragon rather than being the princess hiding in the tower. ]

A dragon... [For a moment, Yuuri looks conflicted, caught between an almost childlike curiosity and apprehension.] It would be really something, if we ran into one here.

[Then he smiles a touch wryly.] If we do have to battle it, I'll stay far back. I'm probably more useful recording the whole thing on the phone and helping the doctor fix people up afterward.

--- Mister Yuuri, have you ever learned how to defend yourself against dangers?

[ it's not judgmental, but it's dangerously close to concern. you're on thin ice, yuuri, pun fully intended. ]

I have. [He's quick to reassure her, even as he continues to make a face.]

It's just... facing a dragon sounds like something on a whole other level. I can barely handle normal sparring during training.

Well, if it helps, I would be hard pressed to suggest ways of battling a dragon, myself.

[ but! more importantly! ]

tell me about training.
