( closed ) lost research
who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!
Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.
Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.
The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.
Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.
[ ooc: this is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own top levels and/or tag around as much as you like! ]

No worries, sweetheart. Be safe out there.
[She gives her a bit of a salute and carries on her merry way, but once they're both settled back at camp and Re-L has her 'face' back on, Shai will head over to chat her up properly.]
Any good with an axe?

[ If she were in her element there may well have been bitching over the term 'sweetheart' - mainly because such pet names had been used in Romdeau as subtle barbs instead of any kind of possible endearment. But the fact that they're in the wilds like this, paired with her state of current disarray prevents anything more than a frown directed toward her shirt and a deft nod that she would keep her eyes peeled whilst out and about in this area.
It may take her a bitof time but eventually they find each other again as she's hanging her wet clothing to dry, again properly done and covered up in dark clothes and her typical blue eye shadow.
The question seems a bit out of left field for a moment, but she answers genially enough. ]
I'm not entirely sure. I'm strong enough, probably, but Vincent handled everything like that for me, back in my world.
[ Vincent Law for sainthood, honestly - wood gathering and chopping in a nuclear wintered wasteland was not an easy job. ]

She is not, obviously, in charge here, nor would she presume to be so. As far as she's concerned it's Jim's mission, and all her worldly experience and the long years she's had with the Greyjanes is a moot point, but she does hate leaving a task undone. So, for all intents and purposes - should Re-L be amenable - she's thusly conscripted.]
Well, I've got some wood that could use splitting. You up for lending a hand?
[She honestly doesn't care who splits and who stacks. They don't need much, it isn't as if they'll be here indefinitely although she'd like to ensure there's enough to tide them over when they pass back through this way as well. Only logical to do the lion's share of the work while they're healthy and able-bodied, and don't have a potentially injured team of scientists in tow.]

I have no idea how to do that, honestly, but I can't imagine it's too mentally strenuous to learn. [ If it involves more strength than brain power she immediately assumes it's probably grunt work - more than likely why those tasks were left to Vincent. Let it not be said that just because she was out of Romdeau that Re-L's perceptions were any different so far as how things worked.
Regardless she figures she ought to learn at some point, in particular because Vincent Law currently wasn't in Riverview to take care of these things for her. Might as well learn until then, right? ]
Do we have anything to put over it to keep it dry? Just in case.

[She gestures to a neatly folded sheet of plastic she lugged along for this purpose alone, folded atop one desolate tree-stump nearby. For the duration of their time here, she could just drop a dome of crackling blue energy over it, but her control is finite - soon as she got about a mile out from it it would dissipate by degrees.
She leads Re-L over to where she has the wood set out. The axe-head is embedded in a log already, she yanks it out with one smooth gesture.
(She's a lot stronger than she looks. Blame Janirak's gravity.)]
Need a demo?

[ Re-L nods to acknowledge the sheet of plastic - thankfully there were others who tended to think ahead. Going in to all of this blind to who was coming along was more than a little unsettling for her so far as who Jim would bring along. He had a good sense about himself so far as she'd been able to tell, though sometimes her judgement of 'useful' were not exactly the same as other's.
She doesn't seem to blink an eye at how easily the axe comes free from the log, arms crossed over her chest to scrutinize anything around that she can. ]
At least on how is best to position yourself and the axe.. [ She pauses for a moment, and then adds : ]
Best not to piss McCoy off with too many injuries to begin.

Not all that difficult. Might take a few tries to get settled.
[A speculative, up-down look of her and then--]
If you're worried about hitting yourself, I can shield you while you practice. Like so.
[She's never shy about using her abilities, and she doubts Jim would've chosen someone who'd kick up a fuss about them, so she just demonstrates with a wave of one hand. A light, crackling blue energy net sort of envelops her right hand, which she waves a few times. The net shifts over her fingers as she flexes them, so close it may as well be a second skin.]
Axe'd just break on impact.
[And the kinetic energy would just disperse across the shield, no bruising necessary.]

[ She studies how the other woman is positioned with her usual intensity, mostly because she doesn't want to make a fool of herself with all of this. Learning she was generally good at, but.. practicing was a whole other monster. Usually an exercise in frustration if she didn't do it perfectly the first time, but there's something to be said for the ability to try anyway.
Eventually she shifts and offers a hand for the axe, shrugging at the offer for a shield. ]
I'm not all that worried, just thinking how annoyed he'll end up if anyone comes back injured before we've even had any major incidents. [ You know, like monster chases or something.
Regardless, she'll move to position a new log in a similar position. ]
I heal quickly either way.
