( closed ) lost research
who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Peggy Carter, Re-L Mayer, Shai Ebbisaryn, Sans, Dick Grayson, Scott Lang, Yuuri Katsuki, Victor Nikiforov
what: a rescue mission
when: from May 15th through to the end of the month
where: abandoned area, along the river, the delta and the waterfalls; between the first and second walls
warnings: monster attacks, probably some injuries/blood, don't expect anything more than that; add any needed warnings on your own threads as needed, please!
Despite the risks, most of the journey was a fairly quiet one. A lot of hours walking, making their way along the riverside, trekking through the woods and across small clearings. When the sun set they'd set up camp somewhere, and as soon as it rose they got back to their feet and out towards the Delta underneath the waterfalls.
Jim made sure they had all they needed; maps, compasses, whatever devices that could help them navigate the terrain. As far as supplies went, they had plenty of covers and extra clothes to make sure they didn't suffer through the colder nights, but there were no luxuries out here. If it rained, they'd be mostly unprotected, and they could only shower and wash their clothes so long as they had the time and access to the stream of the river. There was plenty of food, hopefully enough to last them the round trip, but they also had a myriad of tools and weaponry needed for any hunting and scavenging so they didn't always have to consume from the food they'd brought along for the trip.
The creatures living out here were another concern, and on a journey this long, they were bound to run into something sooner or later. They should be packing enough weaponry to keep the team safe and everyone in one piece, though.
Hopefully, it would be worth it. Jim didn't even care if they didn't get their hands on any of that research— all he cared about was that there were people possibly lost and in danger out there, and he wanted to try and save them.
[ ooc: this is a mingle log, so everyone feel free to write up your own top levels and/or tag around as much as you like! ]

'Mystery meat' doesn't sound all that appetizing. [ Of course she has to rib him, it isn't Re-L Mayer if she isn't finding some way to give someone shit that they don't need or want in the moment, probably. She takes a seat next to the fire, missing the short stools she and Vincent had found specifically for this kind of thing if only because sitting on the ground was not always all that comfortable for her in that moment. ] - But it's better than beans and dressing day in and day out. Or noodles with different sauces.
[ Scavenging compared to what high end foods she'd been accustomed to in Romdeau had done a lot to solve her picky eating - and fast. So, regardless, she's going to eat whatever it is that they have. ]
Provided you're not going to make me cook I'm sure it'll be fine, though. Mystery meat or not.

[Reassuring, right? And right on cue, Yuuri leans forward to turn the meat skewers over a final time. With a helpless sort of smile, Yuuri settles back as he looks at her.]
What's wrong with noodles, though? That actually sounds better than mystery meat, if you ask me.

Might as well. [ Besides, she was fairly confident in her ability to catch Yuuri if he tried any funny business. Not that there was anything convincing to say that he definitely would, but you know... Yuuri could randomly be up to funny business out here in the wilds.
Somehow. ]
When you have them day in and day out it gets old. But it isn't as though there's really a chance to be all that picky, either, out in a nuclear wasteland.

There's not a lot you can bring with you when you're on a trip like this, is there?

So long as there's a supply of ginger ale I think I'll be able to maintain some level of sanity. [ It's partially to lighten his mood a little, her small aside about her favorite fizzing drink. Vincent always seemed to find it no matter what, and it's a small thing that makes the entire long trip and adventure a little bit easier to handle, from time to time. ]
Not unless you'v got a back strong enough to carry it all.. and I wasn't particularly looking to haul enough for an army, so. Packing light it was. Thankfully all of us seemed to have packed sparingly.

Ginger ale. Got it. If we ever go on another mission together, I'll remember to bring some along for you.

I wouldn't dump out extra clothes or anything else for it, but sometimes I wish I'd packed some for this trip, too. [ Like right now. Talking about it only makes it worse, and so she may just change the subject for the sheer fact that she doesn't want to end up too attached to the idea of the soda right off the bat. Besides, Yuuri is making... what she hopes is some good food anyways. ]
How much longer do you think in cook time for that?
no subject
[He shoots a smile in her direction before carefully turning the skewers over and inspecting them.]
I think they should be done now. [He hands her one while setting the others onto a large leaf that he's turned into a makeshift "plate".] Want to take the first bite?
no subject
True. Though if we're going that far we might as well stop and have a bar drink, too. [ For Re-L that meant wine, not some sort of mixed drink, though it may be a little confusing for anyone who's not drank with her before. Liquor on anywhere other than Bajikan with it's influences just... is not Re-L's thing. Goading can absolutely work, but mostly she's sticking to the good old red grape juice without very much straying.
She takes the skewer with only a slight hesitation, mainly unsure just what this meat would taste like. It's better than beans, at least, and when he offers for her to take the first bite - ]
I might as well since I'm here, right? [ And it's a good thing he's a medic in case this turns out to be a horrible idea. She takes a bite anyway, chewing carefully and analyzing the flavor - ]
Not too different from lamb, I don't think.
no subject
I'm not sure how I feel about the mystery meat tasting like lamb, but I guess I shouldn't complain if it's edible. [Well, palatable, really.] How's the seasoning?
no subject
There's no fun in that, though. [ At least by the way she sees it there isn't. Bajikan had maybe taught them all a little bit about their tolerances for certain things, she's sure, though alcohol had been the one that they'd perhaps all been a little over indulgent about. It helped when they were all so familiar, though - staying in the bar area was always a little easier with other people to sit and talk to in the process. It just so happened that with the effects of that area in particular she and the others had a bit too much to drink at times. ]
That was my thoughts on it, more or less. Not sure I'm happy that it tastes like something so familiar, but on the other hand, if it didn't? [ She leaves the point hanging in the air, leaving the idea that it might not be so great to him to fill out in his mind, but nods when he asks about the seasoning. ]
It's good. Did you mix it up here or bring something along?
