OPEN / "Bring Yourself" Arts & Culture event!

who: Cameron Waltz and you!
what: "Bring Yourself" Arts & Culture event!
when: Today!
where: Riverside Community Centre.
warnings: None predicted.

Open invitation on the network!

The community center is normally a modest building, albeit one with a spectacular riverfront view. Tonight, it's putting on the ritz. Multicolored lanterns hang on either side of the sidewalk leading up to the front of the building, and music of all kinds, depending on what time it is, pours out of the open doors and into the street. Local vendors have set up small carts to show off their wares and offer small trinkets and fresh food for sale, displaying their local pride.

Inside, things have been completely redecorated for the event. It's a modern open concept gallery, with blank walls for artwork and written word, empty pedestals to display objects, and plenty of tables with chairs. Some pieces are already on display, from paintings to exotic foods. Small crowds gather around people telling stories or showing off their special skills and talents.

That music plays live from the small main stage overlooking a dance floor, both of which can be cleared for demonstrations of everything from dance to martial arts. Anything physical that requires that little bit of extra room.

Musicians are free to write their names for a time-slot on the stage, and can choose to be accompanied by the onsite pianist and guitarist, bring their own instruments or backup, or perform solo.

All throughout the room are food and drink stations, where staff serves wine, beer, limited spirits, and soft drinks. The exotic foods are on display here, from which the guests can help themselves. If you can imagine it, someone has managed to cook it.
At the far end of the building is an outdoor patio overlooking the river, with seating and torches to light the area through the night. Most displays of magic take place out there, where practitioners can go all-out casting their most extravagant spells.

The crowd ebbs and flows, gathering to socialize during lulls and splitting off to see new events and installations as they come in. Other than opening and closing statements by Cameron Waltz, there's very little structure.

Casual and relaxed, the focus is on learning, generating conversation, and meeting new people. It's an organized free-for-all, a mini festival dedicated to the celebration of the cultures and backgrounds of everyone in Riverview. And in a city made up of a thousand universes worth of people, there's more than enough to see.

[Characters can bring pieces with them as they arrive, and simply set themselves up around the room. Contributions aren't limited to art, anything goes! Feel free to play random observer/staff/performer NPCs. The party goes until midnight, have fun!]

The fact that Hawke's here just so happens to be a happy coincidence. Jim was planning on getting in touch with her anyway, as a matter of fact a call is probably long overdue, but he spots her at the event and decides it's as good a time as any.

He did have to ask someone first, just to make sure it really is her. It's not like his senses were the most keen the last time they met, after all. Once reassured, he pushes his wheelchair over to where she is, standing near the stage in-between shows.

"Hey. Hawke, right?" He cants his head a little, smiling up at her. "I think I owe you thanks for saving my life."

Hawke called the hospital the morning after, checking up on him. Or at least asked about him. After some back and forth with the nurse, she susses out that his name was Jim Kirk and he had survived the night, with his prognosis good but a bit of a lengthy recovery ahead of him. She had debated visiting, but she honestly doubted he would remember much, if anything, and that a random stranger showing up claiming she saved him would do much good.

Not to mention she got a little... busy. With hunting down and killing Shiloh and all. Buuuuuuut no one needs to know that. Not at present.

So she's a bit surprised when Kirk wheels up to her (oh hey, he's been released) and seemingly recognizes her. Her lips curl into a smile. "I am, and you're Jim Kirk, at least according to the harried nurse I spoke to. I'm surprised you recognize me. You were more than a little out of it last I saw you." She shakes her head. "You don't need to. Glad you got out in one piece. You damn near didn't."

He's been released on the condition that he rest, but also, he is not going to sit around the house all day forever. He was getting bored out of his mind, and besides, Victor's here with him. If something happens then the doctor will be there to help him, or take him back home if need be.

"To be honest with you, I had to ask around," he chuckles. "I got your name from the hospital staff, but I had no idea who you were or what you looked like. But turns out I got lucky by just asking around here."

He nods, placing a hand over where his wound is. "I know. Although to be fair, it's not the first time. I have a penchant for near-death experiences."

"That makes more sense. Though it's likely for the better you don't remember all of it. There was... a lot going on."

And she's really glad he doesn't remember her ridiculous phone call with the emergency number operator. Not her finest moment, but hey, she got the ambulance to where it needed to be and Jim survived. That's all that matters.

"Oh, you too?" Her shoulders shake in silent laughter, knowing full well that it's both terrible and amusing. "Well, I'm glad I got to assist in helping you survive the latest experience. You might want to take a break for a little while, though. That kind of wound's not fun to bounce back from."

"I do remember you trying to cop a feel," he teases, letting out a faint chuckle through curled lips. But in all seriousness, there are plenty of details he can't recall. The pain, for one, or the initial blow as Laura's claws dug into him. He can't even remember the chase through the streets, even though he remembers that it happened.

"Yeah, I already got my ears pulled by my doctor," he shakes his head. "Said that just because my first scar looked sexy, I didn't have to go out of my way to get a new one."

He wasn't serious, of course. Jim obviously hadn't done it on purpose, and Victor knew that.

"Oh of course that's what you remember," she says with a laugh. Honestly, that's probably the better thing he can remember. Certainly preferable to her desperately trying to contain his blood or her snapping at the emergency operator about not having brought measuring cups. "Felt nice, but sadly I didn't get a good look."

"Does your doctor often flirt with you?" she asks teasingly. Though she'll be immensely amused if his doctor did, in fact, say that.
