OPEN / "Bring Yourself" Arts & Culture event!
who: Cameron Waltz and you!
what: "Bring Yourself" Arts & Culture event!
when: Today!
where: Riverside Community Centre.
warnings: None predicted.
Open invitation on the network!
The community center is normally a modest building, albeit one with a spectacular riverfront view. Tonight, it's putting on the ritz. Multicolored lanterns hang on either side of the sidewalk leading up to the front of the building, and music of all kinds, depending on what time it is, pours out of the open doors and into the street. Local vendors have set up small carts to show off their wares and offer small trinkets and fresh food for sale, displaying their local pride.
Inside, things have been completely redecorated for the event. It's a modern open concept gallery, with blank walls for artwork and written word, empty pedestals to display objects, and plenty of tables with chairs. Some pieces are already on display, from paintings to exotic foods. Small crowds gather around people telling stories or showing off their special skills and talents.
That music plays live from the small main stage overlooking a dance floor, both of which can be cleared for demonstrations of everything from dance to martial arts. Anything physical that requires that little bit of extra room.
Musicians are free to write their names for a time-slot on the stage, and can choose to be accompanied by the onsite pianist and guitarist, bring their own instruments or backup, or perform solo.
All throughout the room are food and drink stations, where staff serves wine, beer, limited spirits, and soft drinks. The exotic foods are on display here, from which the guests can help themselves. If you can imagine it, someone has managed to cook it.
At the far end of the building is an outdoor patio overlooking the river, with seating and torches to light the area through the night. Most displays of magic take place out there, where practitioners can go all-out casting their most extravagant spells.
The crowd ebbs and flows, gathering to socialize during lulls and splitting off to see new events and installations as they come in. Other than opening and closing statements by Cameron Waltz, there's very little structure.
Casual and relaxed, the focus is on learning, generating conversation, and meeting new people. It's an organized free-for-all, a mini festival dedicated to the celebration of the cultures and backgrounds of everyone in Riverview. And in a city made up of a thousand universes worth of people, there's more than enough to see.
[Characters can bring pieces with them as they arrive, and simply set themselves up around the room. Contributions aren't limited to art, anything goes! Feel free to play random observer/staff/performer NPCs. The party goes until midnight, have fun!]

It's fairly obvious Dorian is dressed more traditionally for his homeland than the Quarantine, wearing a fine set of robes rather than his typical attire, though he looks just at home in them than anything else. Though it may also be clear from his hesitation his purpose here wasn't simply idle banter. He turns the wine glass in his hands for a moment watching the surface tension of the wine swirl before continuing.
"You really have outdone yourself, you know. This is all rather remarkable."

"Thank you. I couldn't have done it without the cooperation of the community. Without participation there is no event. Honestly, I was worried no one would show." A soft laugh, looking out over the water. For all his stress, the event is going beautifully. He could let go of the reins at this point, if it wouldn't just make him more anxious.
He turns to face Dorian again, looking the other man up and down. Taking in his attire as he puffs. It's beautiful. Detailed, luxurious, and fit to his muscular figure. That's a lot of bicep. Cam may have a boyfriend, but he's not blind.
"You look good, by the way. I think you should wear the clothes of your people more often. They suit you."

"You're correct of course, and humble as always. Is that why you've retreated, Jeff having eliminated your ability to hide momentarily?" It was a careful jab, and one he hesitated to make at first. Relationships were such delicate things, after all.
He puffs at the compliment on his attire, though, smoothing the ties at his waist. "They are Tevene, it's true, but not fashion so much as facility. These are armor, not clothing, enchanted with runes to increase the rate at which my body reabsorbs mana. It wouldn't do to lose consciousness in the middle of my presentation, now would it?"
no subject
"That's interesting. I'm not sure we have anything like that back home. You can purchase enchanted objects, but there's nothing to increase your own ability. Not as far as I know. Once you're done, well... you're very much done." If you're not lucky enough to die from a burnout, you'll lose your mind, or potentially open your body to demonic possession. He reaches out to touch one of the long, dangling pieces of Dorian's attire, feeling it between his fingertips.
"You should let me try them on sometime." He's only half joking.

Anytime the topic of magic was breached, Dorian's attention was rapt, of course, and he leaned in with interest. "Truly? Does a mage's body not regenerate mana naturally? These robes only slightly expedite that very process, after all, help me to 'catch my breath' faster, if you will."
He arched an eyebrow at Cameron's touch, chuckling. "Careful, that's Antivan silk, you know, something of a rarity on a distant moon." But the suggestive curve of his lips was genuine. "So quick to see me out of them, are you? Ser Waltz, I thought you were a claimed man." Not that he would object, of course...
