Movie night! It's movie night in the park and it was her idea actually, but she'd enticed Cassian with a picnic that... he had to make. As far as enticing offers went it could use some work but. Whatever, it was a joint effort and movie night is definitely happening, complete with picnic blanket and picnic basket and a secondary blanket for when someone inevitably gets chilly. That's ideal anyway, blanket on both sides, nice and warm and comfortable. An indulgence.
It's weird, going on a date. A picnic date. A year in and simple, commonplace activities that she should have loads of experience in are still something of a novelty. She's only ever been on two dates in her life and one of them was with James Tiberius Kirk and a farce. She and Cassian don't date, per se, because Jyn keeps unintentionally making their dates not dates without realizing but this is definitely a date.
Movie date night has date in the name, she can't escape it.
She can, however, completely forget about it even after she neatly folded the two blankets this morning and set them on the table next to the door. She'd gotten distracted with work and mission reports that she lets pile up hoping Cassian will do them for her -- he won't -- and then she'd gotten happily distracted fiddling with the computer on the Intrepid, seeing how fast she could dupe clearance codes on this ship. The technology is different, but forgery is intuitive and after a couple hours, Jyn really starts getting the hang of how this particular system works, which is the exact moment that date night (and time itself, honestly) escapes her entirely.
Which is why Cassian finds his partner sitting on the floor in the cockpit of the intrepid, industriously typing away at a key pad as tiny holograms flicker across the screen, codes and names and more codes until a mechanical voice bleats clearance granted and Jyn whoops out a soft, "Yes."

He smiles at her and takes in the way she relaxes into the seat, feigning innocence despite the implications of their conversation. "Next time could just be after the movie. I was planning to go home with you later."

She smiles up at him, hand lifting to touch the stubble against his cheek. They've been here for so long, she's seen his beard in every possible state, and it's always so familiar somehow. Cassian's stubble, Jyn's eyeliner, some things never change.
It's a strange thought, apropos of nothing, and her expression softens. "Why are you suddenly so friendly, Captain?"

"Should I not be?" He gets it though. It did come out of nowhere, even for him. "I do not know why. I had an urge and I followed it instead of questioning it."
Something she has been allowing him to do more and more.

"Please, do continue to follow that urge, don't let me interrupt."

"I really want to go on a date with you." He wants to do that as much as he wants to keep kissing her. This is the worst! He could just kiss her on the date, though he supposes getting this handsy in public is not necessarily his thing. Even though he quite clearly says he wants to get a move on, he still ducks in to steal another kiss, speaking against her mouth. "Maybe it is silly, but I still want it."

But maybe they can also just go to the movie once they stop acting like lusting teenagers. Not that Jyn seems keen on the idea of not kissing him, pressing another to her lips before she veers off course and starts a trail across his jaw.
