semi-closed catch-all;
who: Shai, Flint or Ellie.
what: general catch-all log for the month of May
where: All over the place.
warnings: none yet, will update as necessary.
notes: pm me if you want to do something/would like a starter, happy to whip one up. totally open to new/established cr with firefly/memoria stuff here too.
Shai;
[Shai can be found doing all manner of things. She works as an electrical engineer, so feel free to run into her at her place of work. Alternately, she can be found in the gym, jogging at four AM like a crazy person, showing off her extensive electrokinetic powers to crowds she can shock and awe, or hell, she will absolutely come up to you and say hi if you glance in her direction. Feel free to pick something and go from there.
She's also a consummate flirt, so feel free to run into her at a bar where she will definitely buy your character (man or woman) a drink and strike up a conversation in that context as well.]
Flint;
[Flint can usually be found in the library, or doing woodworking at a small shop he's taken out a rental on. Alternately, he hosts a weekly event at a set location near the woods where he teaches swordfighting and grappling! Talk to him about literature and he will be your friend forever.]
Ellie;
[Ellie has moved out of the communal housing complexes and into this awesome place. Existing CR is more than welcome to make house calls, she'll have contacted everyone she has a decent amount of positive CR with to let them know where she is now.
She can also be found in the park throwing around balls (want to get whacked in the head? this is your chance) and off in the woods practicing with archery and guns if you feel like stumbling across her there. She's also keen on monster fighting, exploring, and everything in between.]

You can show your appreciation by bringing along a hearty appetite and some gallant tales of derring-do. Have you been up to anything delightful these last days?
no subject
Unfortunately nothing terribly exciting, but I am sure I could whip up a tale that could be entertaining for you. [ Like fighting a giant demon in Hanamura, something preposterous like that. ] It has been rather somber with the current festivities, so I am glad for the chance to have a good time.
no subject
[That's a soft, agreeable sort of noise. She's seen the re-emergence of some of her old demons with all the associated revelry, and she's not keen to bring them up. She just sort of shrugs.]
Something of a drag, isn't it? Lucky for you, you know who to call when the angst gets nearer than not to oppressive.
[A beat. She gives him a sideways glance.]
You weathered it all right?
no subject
Genji nods. ] I am fine. I have learned, as they say, 'healthy coping mechanisms.'
no subject
Those exist?
[It's flippant, as these things go. Red's not much her colour either, though it certainly has been in the past. Some ghosts you lay to rest and simply hope for the best in the interim.
She stops to pull the door open and she gestures for him to precede her.]
Hope you brought your appetite. The tea and cakes will leave you wanting more.
no subject
Genji gives a little smile and dips his head in thanks as he steps through the doors first. ] Of course. I am not too proud to admit to having a bit of a sweet tooth.
no subject
[The banter's nice, as these things go, and she can ignore the heavy context. He seems like a man that's taken a few of life's little beatings. She can respect what he's learned from them.
She waltzes in behind him, puts a hand on his arm to steer him towards the table she's sort of unofficially claimed as 'hers' and takes a seat with her back to the crowd. It's not a vulnerable position, where she's concerned - the difference is that she uses a very thin, all but imperceptible layer of her construct energy over her vulnerable spots beneath her clothing to make her more or less impervious to any attack.
The server approaches with a pair of menus, and Shai pulls one towards her, chin in her hand as she idly peruses it.]
Well, food's on me. Only fair, seeing as how I've absconded with you.
no subject
Genji is gladly steered to the table and sits down, but not before pulling out her chair for her. (He learned at some point to be a gentleman, of course.) He is, by the very nature of existence, never truly unarmed so he doesn't think much of their positioning in the restaurant himself.
He takes a menu with a small little smile to the waiter and starts to flip through it. ] You are too kind, I will have to repay the favor. And I would hardly call this absconding. [ His smile gets a little playful as he looks over the top of the menu at her. ]
no subject
[She raises her eyebrows in an entirely enterprising matter, as if this is now something she is seriously considering.
She, of course, is also teasing, evidenced by the fact that she returns that mischievous little smile before turning to the server and rattling off a request for tea to start, with a gracious please and thank-you.]
no subject
[ He smiles in return and goes back to a normal posture before the waiter returns. Genji lets her order, as he has no reason to distrust her judgement here, and looks back to her once they were alone again. ] So how did you come to find this place? By chance?
[ He hasn't really gone to restaurants in the past... decade or so of his life, so he doesn't even think about it. ]
no subject
I didn't know you had a brother here. Should I be asking for his permission rather than leaving notes?
[Ha, ha. She's hilarious.]
And, ah. Just sort of wandered in and out of places one and sundry until I found something that suited my tastes. Good tea is hard to come by.
[And this place has a blend that's the closest to something from Janirak she's ever found.]
no subject
He puts down the menu and nods. ] I understand that. When my lower jaw was replaced— [ He gestures to it easily. ]— I had to figure out what I could taste all over again. I tried more teas than I can count.
no subject
What's the reconstructive surgery on your world like?
[She isn't about to ask where, why or how he lost it, that's for him to say rather than for her to ask, but the topic seems a safe enough middle ground given how blithely he'd mentioned the loss of his jaw.]
no subject
[ He knows what his files say (of course he read them even though he wasn't supposed to.) Genji spent half of his time in a near catatonic state and the other half screaming and trying to thrash about. He doesn't envy the doctors and cyberneticists at all. ] But it was a decade ago and I am comfortable with it all now. Most people do not even have the chance that I was given.
[ Because he had information that Overwatch wanted, and the UN had plenty of money to spare. ] What about your world? Is it common?
no subject
One subset of culgenic capabilities call themselves regenerists. Healers. Their skill and power depends on what they can do, but I know of at least two that can rebuild limbs if they have a few months to work on a patient.
[It can be tricky, sometimes painful. It's an odd combination of healing and temporal manipulation that she doesn't fully understand - she tends not to use them unless a situation is dire. Genji's not yet seen her in a state of undress, but she's got plenty of scars beneath her clothing. Burns, stab-wounds, bullet holes aplenty. A bite mark, from one very interesting encounter. Her entire left side is rough and pebbled with road rash where she took a tumble off a truck. Orpheo's the only one who knows that their existence bothers her. He'd offered to pay for her to visit one of the higher-end regenerists and have them undone, but her pride wouldn't allow it. She's a soldier. Sometimes that means scars.
She relented only about one, and even that she sometimes regrets.
A shrug.]
There are traditional surgeons as well. The best hospitals along the Lattice usually have both on staff.

His eyes widen just a tad at what she describes. ] That sounds incredible. There isn't anything like that in my world, yet anyway. [ As evidenced by the fact he's held together with silicone and metal. ] I know there has been success in replacing damaged and diseased parts of organs and tissue with biotic technology. [ But he's a warrior, not a scientist, so he doesn't understand it much. Just that it helped save his life. ] One of the best doctors in the field helped in my own process.
[ He can understand wanting to wield scars as proof of surviving. Except now they remind his brother of what happened every time he takes off his mask. But... perhaps that is for the best.
He leans his chin on the palm of his hand, elbows rudely on the table. ] What is the 'Lattice' you mentioned?
no subject
Jump ports between worlds across a variety of solar systems. There are twenty-nine points of travel, all told. They needed something to call it.
[She lifts the tea, samples it with a sense of savour. It's hotter than most people could stand, but Shai runs a little warmer than most herself.]
no subject
His synthetic taste buds are dulled, but he can tell it's very good. He smiles in thanks and puts the cup back down on the table when she explains. ] We aren't even close to something that amazing in my world. There is a scientific colony on the moon however. [ He brings the cup back up for another sip. ] With talking gorillas.
no subject
Didn't know that was a thing on Earth. Animals, right?
no subject
[ It sounds so fake, he knows, but it's entirely true. He wouldn't mess with you Shai. (Well, maybe a little. But not this time.) ]
no subject
Sounds... complicated. And a little strange. But then, I control electrical energy, and I've heard tell that's plenty strange to normal folk. So. Si varia elo.
['Six of one, half dozen of another' in her own language, oop.]
no subject
[ Well, he knew a woman who was essentially stuck in time and his former commander can turn into some kind of wraith at will but... no electricity powers yet. (Not to mention he could summon a hard light dragon.) But who knows what the future will bring.
He takes another sip of the tea. ] I wonder what else from our worlds would seem strange.
no subject
[Which is true for everything, really.]
You seem to take an awful lot in stride, at least.
[Man after her own heart. It's probably why they get along - they're both fairly chill and relaxed individuals.]
no subject
[ Seeing his Master put things in such simple terms that made sense to him certainly helped. ] And I had a very good teacher.
no subject
Hilariously, so did I. What was yours like?
