who: sam & stephen (616) [closed]
what: you can never have too many dogs, especially when one is incorporeal
when: idk early august sometime
where: the sanctum sanctorum
warnings: doggos
When Sam let himself in the front door of the Sanctum after work, both Wong (in his recently evolved form) and Sirius rushed him, pressing close to his legs. "Everything okay, you guys?" Sam frowned down at the two canines. Surely the mice would have found some way to tell him if something was wrong at the Sanctum, even if Stephen himself was incapacitated.
(It was, perhaps, a measure of how weird Sam's life had become that he didn't even think twice about using talking mice as a warning system.)
He took a quick peek in the living room, but the mice were in the trees - a soft "Hail!" went up from the handful who noticed him - and going about their daily business, whatever that was. He tried not to think too much about what the mice did.
"Stephen?" He headed upstairs to the sorcerer's room, but both dogs refused to go past the door. "Is everything okay?"

But from the sounds inside, the sorcerer seems to be... laughing? Definitely sounding pleased when he hears Sam's calls, and the man might see Stephen peering up from where he's sat on the floor by the foot of the bed.
"Sam! Everything's just fine!" He sounded honest about that, even as another voice piped up.
"Who's that now? Christ, you got a zoo here or something now?"

And then he entered the room and saw a translucent basset hound splayed out on the floor next to Stephen. Wong and Sirius both whined as Sam left them behind, but he knew enough from Stephen's stories to guess who this was.
"Pretty much," he admitted. "Between the talking mice in the living room and Loki's snake." And the fox, which he was pretty sure mostly lurked in the corners of the living room and didn't eat the mice. "Nice to meet you, Bats." Sam crouched down next to Stephen and the ghost dog. "I'm Sam."

"Saw the mice, those are some serious business, huh?" Bats lifted his head enough to peer at Sam without losing the pats Stephen was giving him, considering him with all the seriousness a hound could muster. "Sam? You're the guy looking out for this putz now then?"

"I try," he replied to Bats. "Dunno how often I actually succeed, but you know how he is." Goddamn impossible.
