HUNTING | APRIL 18TH | CLOSED TO ILLYA
[ It's still good and dark outside when Líadan sinks into a seat in front of the television on Floor Two to pull her boots on. Oddly enough, it's the last thing she's set to equip besides the large backpack she procured specifically for the purpose of transporting the fruits of their labor to the floor. Her robes and cloak, with their browns and greens, are colored well enough to provide ample camouflage and the bow and quiver full of arrows at her back and the dagger sheathed at her side have never been more ready to serve. Sheathed at her side are some new additions, namely a small assortment of hand-picked knives to make specific processing tasks a little easier and less time consuming and help her to provide Illya with a more rounded experience in his learning.
A hunter does more than hunt, after all. They respectfully process the animals they take and use everything the animal has to give from its meat to its fur to the sinews and even the bones. That's how her people do it and that's how she intends to teach Illya. A body that knows how to hunt and properly use what they take out of respect for the life they take is a body one step closer to being able to effectively live on their own in the wilds. Should he ever have the want or need, she'd see him ready.
Pushing herself up from her seat, she'll loop the backpack around her shoulder and move to fill her flask with water from the kitchen soundlessly despite the spring in her step. Once he's up and ready, they'll go. It'll take them a little time to reach the area she's chosen for today's lesson and that's fine. There's some talking to be had about their task before what she hopes will be a successful morning and she's got high hopes for them. Once she's filled her flask, she quietly heads back to the entertainment area to wait for her student and partner in today's hunt. ]
CAMPING | APRIL 23RD | CLOSED TO GLADIO, EICHI, AND SANS
[ It's with a little flourish that Líadan gently deposits three of the bags of supplies the party had brought along with them by the other bags more closely situated to the near completely set up tent. The site they've claimed for their camping venture is nothing short of a beautiful one. The natural overgrowth of the forest hasn't seemed quite able to reclaim the clearing for how fond a spot it is for campers and it isn't at all difficult to see why it is just that. There's a not quite perfect circle of sky visible overhead that's hugged by the surrounding forest and a small waterfall cascading into what appears to be a fairly deep, clear spring a comfortable walk from the site. A circular pile of ash speaks to a bonfire in recent days, perhaps a week, and it makes the place that much more picturesque, almost familiar despite the newness of the site itself. The gentleness of the breeze helps, the boughs around them swaying just so, as though they were waving, welcoming them.
It's peaceful for all that she knows it could be quite dangerous, her ears catching the tell-tale sounds of a few snapping branches in the distance. It's dry, dead wood, not a predator, but it sees her perk and wrinkle her nose with a smile all the same for hints of staccato in the music.
Drawing her eyes from the distant forest, she'll be moving to rejoin her companions in mind and body, a spring in her step for her excitement. It really seems like it's been too long since she got to sleep under the stars in good company. It looks like they're putting the finishing touches on the tent now, too. ]
It looks like things are really coming together over here! Do you think we should take some precautions for the breeze or have you already?

CAMPING
As far as helping set up the camp itself, though... Eichi hasn't moved to lift a finger. He's not used to manual labor like this, after all, and not understanding the basics, he's sure he would only get in the way. That's why he's found himself a seat on a neat little log set up close to the fire, one leg crossed tight over the other as he watches the tent set up with his chin on his palm.
Líadan's words get him to sit up straighter again and temporarily peel his eyes from the event, looking over to her with a smile.]
Hm? The breeze is quite nice, isn't it? And so is the view. I could sit here through the night. ♪ [...So, maybe he didn't hear what she said at all. That's fine. He's just going to glance back at tent set up.]
no subject
Except maybe for a few lazy dudes in their midst who can't seem to be bothered to lift a finger to help. He'll get around to YOU JERKS in a bit. ]
You picked a hell of a site, Lee. I couldn't have picked better.
[ His part for now is complete, so he claps a hand onto Eichi's back in familiarity - likely jostling the poor guy in the process - and settles down into one of the Coleman's camping chairs he's arranged around the fire pit. ]
...Couldn't help but notice the old fire - you been here before?
[ Tell him all about it, okay? ]
no subject
Yeah! This guy!!
...The skeleton's been standing on the edge of the clearing, leaning casually against the trunk of a tree -- okay, so he's also doing that one-armed awkward hugging thing which is. Not. Clinging, okay. Because he's in his thirties and is over stupid ideas like that vast blue sky beyond the forest canopy might swallow him up.
But maybe he still isn't completely used not living with a ceiling over his skull.
Half-listening to Li and Gladio's conversation, he rumbles his own noncommittal response to Eichi's remark. ]
Betcha see every star out here. [ He huffs a low chuckle. ] Stellar.
[ A moment later he sweeps his eye lights down and spots a not unpleasant surprise -- in the mossy, damp shade of this tree, a cluster of mushrooms not uncommon in the Underground are sprouting. Considering how many came through the portal from variations of Earth, he guesses it shouldn't be too shocking to discover spores made it through, too.
He stoops to start plucking the edible parts up off the cradle of the tree's roots. He ain't a cook, but he remembers these taste pretty good roasted on a stick over a fire.
This means the skeleton eventually returns with his arms full of an untidy pile of brownish mushrooms with thick, white stalks. ]

[ Líadan will be moving to claim one of those peculiar seats for herself by the fire. Don't mind that she gives the center a good solid poke to be sure of the thing, then pauses to draw her bow and quiver from her back. It's then that she deposits her quiver beside the chair and deposits herself into the the latter, visibly shifting a bit to make sure she's comfortable. Her bow is placed securely in her lap. ]
It looked to me like it had seen regular use given how quickly the overgrowth takes things, so I decided to make it a halfway point and look into finding some good company to share the place with. I didn't get much of a look at the sky last time, though. It was cloudy out, but I'm hoping tonight will be different! I haven't really gotten too much of a chance to look at the stars here, you know?
[ Given how bright Riverview tends to be and the fact that she's been running, running, running since she got there, she hasn't really caught the stars in her eyes yet. To share something like that with good friends... well, she thinks she can stand to slow down for a minute to make a memory like that. ]
I wonder how different they are from home? I -- [ And she will be pausing, her eyes tearing to Sans and his loot ] -- are those mushrooms?
no subject
Shall we draw our own constellations together, Líadan-chan? It's refreshing to have a girl here for a change. ♪ [But, those sure are mushrooms, and he's staring at them now, too.]
SORRY FOR THE WAIT
[ To Eichi, he huffs a laugh and grins. ] The last mission was kind of a sausage fest. These guys here can attest to that.
[ It was, however, an eye-opening experience and not actually bad. Just different, made him a little homesick but also gave him the distraction of a new experience he needed to focus on the mission and less about who he's left behind. It's not an even trade but it was effective.
Those arms come back down the moment Sans comes into view bearing his diminutive weight in wild mushrooms. ]
Hoh? You've found something interesting, Sans. [ Probably done while the poor skeleton was trying his very best not to stare too deep into the void of that endless blue sky.
Scrubbing his beard with a hand in thought, the other planted on his knee, he leans forward to examine them. ] They look edible - what do you think, Lee? [ Consulting the other survivalist in the group. ]
no subject
[ Sans, reminding everyone needlessly that he's still a skeleton since 201X.
But he somehow seems to grin a little wider, or perhaps the slight increase in the brightness of his eye lights give that illusion; the monster explains: ]
They're safe enough for me, but, uh. You guys? It's probably fine.
[ Probably. ]
Used to roast these for my brother when he was just a babybones. They don't take up mushroom, heh heh, so it's more a snack.
[ that's terrible. ]
Whaddya say, up for it?
even sorrier for the wait, i mean jeez
[ As for the mushrooms, she'll be pushing herself up and moving to take a better look at them. Sans will be fine, she's more than certain about that, but it wouldn't do to have their camping trip ruined on account of someone getting deathly ill or dying. That comment about his brother has her turning her eyes from a mushroom she's plucked to examine only to freeze entirely when the pun is dropped. There's a beat and then, then it happens. Her expression twists as she tries to kill the laughter bubbling up, but she can't quite manage it and it tumbles out.
At long last, she finally gets one of San's puns and she'll lower the mushroom she'd been holding up to nod, lips still trying to split for a few lingering giggles. ]
I do believe these are safe to eat and a snack sounds good after that trek. Shall we? And what's this about a mission, Gladio? You guys were having fun without me?
no subject
[He looks like he's remembering this fondly before he looks over to those mushrooms.]
There are no health risks at all, are there?
...everyone's icon is the same expression why is this
What's wrong Eichi, gotta problem with letting the skeleton forage for a bunch of humans?
[ Actually, it's a good question. Gladio knows that the skeleton can't even digest for obvious reasons, not unless he applies a bit of that magic voo-doo that he do first, and then magically he can consume it. He's seen it for himself and while it hasn't been the weirdest thing he's seen, it ranks up there. ]
Hand it over, Sans, I'll try some first.
[ He'll just break off a piece and move to pop it into his mouth now. Here's for hoping it isn't toxic or hallucinogenic. ]
no subject
Eichi's question wins a shrug. Not the most reassuring answer. Sans admits aloud: ]
No promises, but--whoops. Here we go.
[ Sans makes absolutely no effort whatsoever to stop Gladio from sampling the mushroom. It tastes...
Actually, it has absolutely no remarkable flavor or texture at all. After a moment of studying Gladio's expression, Sans offers: ]
Sorry, buddy. It's fatally poisonous when raw. Arr-eye-pee.
Hunting
He’s also carrying his gun, though he’s aware that’s not going to be the best hunting weapon. He just never goes anywhere without it.]
I am ready. [He says as he slips a bag over his shoulder. He’s got some food and water in it, just in case. Anyone who knows him would be able to tell he's actually pretty excited about this, even if there aren't many signs of it in his body language.]
no subject
It looks as though you came prepared. Good. Let's move out, then. We can talk more freely on the way!
[ And with much less concern about waking their floormates. As early as it is, she doubts they'd appreciate it and she's quite looking forward to this, so she is quick to move and expectant that he'll follow with due haste. She's listening all the same, for that matter. Gauging how he walks, how much sound he makes... ]
no subject
He waits until they are outside to talk again.]
I wanted to thank you, for this. I appreciate it.
sorry for the late!
[ It's not meant to be ominous whatsoever, more a statement of fact meant to drive home the importance of self-reliance where it concerns one's food. A man that can hunt will eat with less difficulty than one forced to rely upon others for his meals. Nodding, she keeps moving and rather quietly for the elevator, still listening. His stealth is certainly not lost on her. ]
You've some skill in stealth, I see. It will serve you very well in this endeavor. Have you hunted before?
<3
I agree with that. [He says easily. Give a man a fish and all that, and Illya loves learning new skills that may come useful in the future.]
I have not, but I know how to be quiet and I am a good shot. I think with a little practice I could learn.
no subject
You're enough steps ahead of a genuine novice for me to be impressed, then. I am not too familiar with guns myself, but I don't expect that to impede us. It would be good for me to see one personally in capable hands methinks.
[ And a bit more than that. ]
You'll have your first lesson before we leave the gate.
[ On the way, that is. There are a couple of things she needs to impress upon him about hunting pertaining to nature and the respect thereof, after all, but she'll get there. ]

Feel free to send me home, if I ever slow you down or scare away the game.
