It's a party, ya'll
who: Everyone's invited!
what: That potluck he mentioned
when: Saturday afternoon
where: The park
warnings: None so far!
[True to form, Remy pulled out all the stops for this particular potluck. He has it on good authority that Rogue's bringing cornbread, but he's got what seems to be a wireless two-burner setup that he's brought along to the park, one of which is dominated by a very large pot of fragrant and spicy gumbo, and the other by a very large pot of cooked white rice, on warm. There's a small table with plastic-seeming (but totally biodegradable) bowls and utensils, two large coolers (because people might be bringing drinks), two big folding tables (for all the things that might be brought) and a big expanse of the park to cop a squat in and have some good grub, place some outdoors-y things, and have some fun! The park as a grill too, if someone wants to fire it up!]
(OOC: Feel free to post your own starters and have a ball! This is meant to be fun, after all. If you want Remy specifically, let me know! He'll be wandering around.)

Alex is well aware of her own intelligence.
[That seemed to need to be addressed. After all, he didn't like the idea of people shortchanging the fact that Alex was well aware of how persistent and intelligent she was.]
And we're,
[He paused on the answer. Richard knew what he and Alex were, it was just a matter of explaining it.]
Together.
no subject
He nodded at Richard's response.]
Ain't doubtin' that for a second, homme. She's a sharp cookie, non?
[And he nodded, raising a hand to stay any challenge.]
I ain't tryin' ta step on toes, Richard. She's a fine catch. [And that was enough about Alex, now that he had an idea of who this guy was.] So, ya showed up a few days ago, eh? They offer you a job?
no subject
There was also the fact that he was in love with her.
So instead of returning to the way Remy was talking about her, he allowed the other man to move the conversation past that.]
I'm teaching philosophy at the University.
[Richard didn't want to give away any more then he needed to. He didn't know this person, and he didn't plan on getting to know him. Or anyone for that matter. Alex could make all the friends with the delusions that she wanted, but he'd skip that and more into changing this, removing whatever Warren had done to them. Because this had to be Warren, the theory of a multiverse was still in theoretical stages with no basis in fact. It was an implausible idea.
Still, the conversation was a bit too one-sided for Richard's liking, and, strangely, he felt like this was an interrogation. Something similar to the way he was approached by interviewers when he was doing a book promotion. He never liked feeling that way, so he decided to start being the one asking the questions. Starting small of course.]
And yourself?
no subject
It wasn't an interrogation in the sense that Remy felt protective of Alex or anything. Just that he did think of her as a friend, and the idea that this guy was around had but one hell of a smile on her face. He was curious. He supposed it came from teaching teenagers.]
Philosophy, eh? Any particular focus, or 101? Combo maybe?
[He nods.] English at th' high school.

[Of course, there were more than enough other things that he needed to do, and with the current state of things, he didn't plan on staying in this Warren fueled delusion any longer than he had to. He had real courses to teach and real lectures to give, and he still wasn't sure what Warren thought he would be getting out of this. How this tied back to the man's belief that Richard was the only one who could open some door that would bring about the Apocalypse.
Even in his head, the whole idea sounded stupid.
He tried to picture the man in front of him teaching English to High schoolers. Without getting too far into a stereotype, he didn't look like a teacher. He seemed more like someone Richard would see in his lecture hall, trying to coast through an elective so he could go out and party more.
Of course, we couldn't always judge someone by how they looked. Most scam artists in the form of mediums seemed incredibly harmless. That is until they took all your money while pretending that they've contacted your dear dead grandmother or dog floppy on the other side. So instead of dismissing him, he decided to raise an eyebrow, curiously.]
How long have you been teaching then?

[Remy's been all over the world, to a few alien worlds, and back and forth in time enough to know how fluid belief can be. He never officially attended college, it's true, but sometimes things were necessary and required people to step up that weren't necessarily qualified to do it. Still, he smiles at the question, because he's not really sure how Richard's going to take the answer, either.]
On an' off, three years or so. It's a long story, mostly deals with things back home. Can't say I set out ta be a teacher, though. Just the way the cards fell, non?
no subject
[He felt that doing so would be shortchanging anyone's education and knowledge of the subject. There was no way that you could fully understand something without having a full understanding of it.
Remy's response was more interesting than his question. On and off would imply that other things needed addressing at that time, or maybe he just chose to take time off. Either way, it wasn't much of something that Richard was worried about. After all, he didn't know this man and didn't plan to. Or at least not on a deeper level than having to see him now and again from being dragged out of the apartment.]
Haven't you thought of looking for something you like more?
no subject
[He laughs at Richard's question, because the answer was yes, and recently more often than not, though there was something keeping him around, and it was more than just obligation. If he could put his finger on exactly what it was he'd probably have a lot fewer restless nights.]
Oui, I have, but I do like it, even if I got saddled with it 'cause nobody wants ta teach mutant kids except other mutants.
[And that word was spoken like any other minority may refer to their race, not as though it were a slur or a fiction.]
no subject
The mention of mutants didn't sway Richard much. In human history, there had always been mutations in the genes; it was how evolution worked. A slow mutating of the genes which would eventually become dominant. It was the way he said it that stuck with Richard. That subtle annoyance toward the term that didn't make sense. Richard wasn't aware of any significant discrimination toward people with mutations, there were more than a million ways that people discriminated against others, but genetic mutation was not in the majority of them.
He raised a brow, eyes focused on the other man as if asking him to continue.]
I'm afraid I don't know much about that particular issue.
no subject
[For someone who arrived just a few days ago, Richard was taking all this pretty well. So well, in fact, that it had Remy curious.]
So, Richard, I gotta ask. You jump dimensions often?
no subject
No.
[It wasn't possible to, so how would he be able to do it often? However, something made him think that Alex wouldn't be particularly pleased if he went around telling her 'friends' that they were, theoretically, delusions from her and Richard's minds. So instead he kept it at that.]
no subject
I can tell, mon ami. You got dat "dis must be a real lucid dream" look.
no subject
If I were dreaming, then this wouldn't be my dream.
no subject
[Smirking, because he's clearly humoring you, Richard, he nods.]
What would yo' dream be, then?
no subject
Not this.
