It's a party, ya'll

who: Everyone's invited!
what: That potluck he mentioned
when: Saturday afternoon
where: The park
warnings: None so far!

[True to form, Remy pulled out all the stops for this particular potluck. He has it on good authority that Rogue's bringing cornbread, but he's got what seems to be a wireless two-burner setup that he's brought along to the park, one of which is dominated by a very large pot of fragrant and spicy gumbo, and the other by a very large pot of cooked white rice, on warm. There's a small table with plastic-seeming (but totally biodegradable) bowls and utensils, two large coolers (because people might be bringing drinks), two big folding tables (for all the things that might be brought) and a big expanse of the park to cop a squat in and have some good grub, place some outdoors-y things, and have some fun! The park as a grill too, if someone wants to fire it up!]

(OOC: Feel free to post your own starters and have a ball! This is meant to be fun, after all. If you want Remy specifically, let me know! He'll be wandering around.)

[ Steve has brought along potato salad for his contribution, as well as some oatmeal cookies, almost out of intentional irony (although he'll never admit that). He does spend time at the grill, so if anyone wants some cookout food, Steve can provide. He takes a break at points to mingle and play games if anyone wants to toss around a ball or do some rather extreme Frisbee catching. And while he doesn't necessarily show off, Steve likes a good challenge. Powers or non-conventional means to spice the game up are always welcome.

As the afternoon turns later toward the evening, he can be found drawing people around the park. Quick sketches in a book he has with him to fill in later as he saves little snapshots of the people he's spoken with and noted enjoying the potluck with friends, new or old. ]

[ooc: hit me up if you have any ideas you'd like to jump on for this that I didn't provide for. I'll roll with it!]

[Steve might still be irritated by the fact he can't get a clear idea of what has happened back in their home world, but he's starting to at least accept that whatever is happening isn't ending the world. If they really needed him to go back, they would have just said so, and as much as he disagrees with the silence, he respects their decisions. Maybe their world doesn't need Steve Rogers.

He isn't sure how he feels about that. On some level, it still feels like he's abandoning something.

But then there are times like this, where people in Quarantine surprise him. He smiles when Remy approaches him with a basketball, offering to play him with a cocky look that feels just like home. For a moment, Steve feels that longing so intensely he goes silent in surprise. Then he grins, with a light of challenge in his eyes, and nods.]

You sure you're up for that? I don't want to embarrass you at your party.

[Steve treats the technical ownership of the event like he treats a mission. Remy is the man in charge because he was the one that sent out the invitation, and to Steve that is enough to give him the role of command. Even if there isn't really anything to command, the blond always wants to know who to turn to. Identifying the lead is old habit to him.

He catches the ball with his fingertips and dribbles it, testing it out. He hasn't held a basketball in over a year and the feeling is good. Being able to break away from his routine gives Steve a better sense of being at home in the Quarantine.]

You know, I'm reasonably confident that I can figure things out. At least enough to get the job done. You just put this into that, right?

[It's a joke that will never die. Steve finds that he doesn't really need it to, either. He nods toward the hoop, putting on his innocent face for show.]

[What's a cookout without a hotdog really? Well, if you ask Alex Reagan it hardly counts as a cookout at all. So, she's going to join the line of people when Steve mans the grill, and she's got two buns ready to go when she finally makes it up to the front. Of course, by to go Alex already has the buns entirely loaded with relish, onions, ketchup and mustard, because she's nothing if not prepared.

Even if it doesn't leave much room for the actual hot dog in them.

When she reaches the front, Alex just gives him a bright and happy grin.

[The very limited retail space left for the hot dogs gets a chuckle out of Steve. As someone who does more than his fair share of eating, he finds her dual wielding food endearing and familiar. It's nice to know that someone else is enjoying the cookout as much as he is.]

Alex, good to see you. I hope those mean that you're hungry.

[Because he has plenty of hotdogs and burgers to share.]

Enjoying the picnic?

Yeah, definitely starving! Even with everything going on, it definitely feels like a good day to be out and doing stuff, you know?

[Even if she's on a bit of a timeline, Alex doesn't care. She's going to stop and smell the roses, or at least eat hot dogs loaded with absurd things, because what's a picnic without one, right?]

Are you having fun? How'd you get stuck manning the grill?
