It's a party, ya'll
who: Everyone's invited!
what: That potluck he mentioned
when: Saturday afternoon
where: The park
warnings: None so far!
[True to form, Remy pulled out all the stops for this particular potluck. He has it on good authority that Rogue's bringing cornbread, but he's got what seems to be a wireless two-burner setup that he's brought along to the park, one of which is dominated by a very large pot of fragrant and spicy gumbo, and the other by a very large pot of cooked white rice, on warm. There's a small table with plastic-seeming (but totally biodegradable) bowls and utensils, two large coolers (because people might be bringing drinks), two big folding tables (for all the things that might be brought) and a big expanse of the park to cop a squat in and have some good grub, place some outdoors-y things, and have some fun! The park as a grill too, if someone wants to fire it up!]
(OOC: Feel free to post your own starters and have a ball! This is meant to be fun, after all. If you want Remy specifically, let me know! He'll be wandering around.)

Despite her enthusiasm, the mutant does look tense and tired, but she's definitely trying to push through it. Shalimar's question earns a shake of her head.]
It's been interestin', but a girl can't complain when her best friend from home shows up. [In case the other woman is wondering who that might be, Rogue nods at wherever Remy stands at that moment.
Possessive of things that technically aren't hers? Never.]
How 'bout you sugah? Holdin' up well enough?
no subject
[Spoken with a bit of a grin. Rogue clearly does; Shalimar is pretty sure her efforts wouldn't quite come up to those same standards.
She manages a smile as Rogue indicates her friend from home, forcing down the spike of jealousy while she's dealing with the exact opposite. That's not Rogue's fault and Shalimar's not about to take it out on her.]
Familiar faces make things a little easier. Not that it's not nice to get to know new faces.
[And it helps a little, knowing that even if there's no-one she'd trust entirely here, she can at least build a circle around her who might get there eventually.
Which means being at least somewhat honest, though she's playing down just how upset about it she is.]
Can't say I haven't been better. Little jarring when someone you know disappears without warning but I guess I can't hold it against him.
[Which doesn't mean she isn't mad at the people who are responsible for it, accident or not.]
no subject
[If she notices the forced nature of the smile, the other mutant doesn't say anything by it. There could be several reasons why mentioning her friend causes a reaction Shalimar doesn't want to show her, a relative stranger. Regardless, her eyebrow raises slightly at the next comment.]
Depends on if they're friend or foe. [She'd rather the Red Skull not show up there.] But you're right, it's good to meet new people most of the time.
[She smiles at Shalimar so that she knows she's part of that most category.
The mention of someone disappearing jolts a strong dose of reality into the situation and her attention shifts to Remy again from across the potluck. It's evident that Rogue doesn't want to lose the man again. She returns her gaze with genuine sympathy joining her own personal worry.]
That a choice he made or one someone else made for him?
no subject
Hard to know, considering I didn't really get to talk to him before he vanished. But that's enough to make me think he wasn't really given much of a choice either way.
[Brennan's not someone who would have taken an out without letting her know about it, which guides her theories somewhat.
But she doesn't want to dwell on that, nor does she want Rogue to dwell on the possibilities. So she'll focus on a positive, if one she's partly joking about.]
His loss, though, if it means he's not here for this. Means I don't have to worry about the lectures if I don't behave myself.
no subject
Both options got their pros and cons. [And it's difficult to know which would be the better of the two. That's for Shalimar to decide and Rogue to not overthink. Dwelling on those additional possibilities wouldn't help either of them.
The comment she counters with has her raising an eyebrow, not sure of how to take it.]
Define 'not behavin' yourself.'
no subject
[Well. She's not sure nice is the word but at the same time, she and Brennan have had more than their share of arguments centring around her stubborn independent streak and his protectiveness that at times she finds a little too suffocating and if she remembers that, she can cope without him being here a little better.
Only a little. But right now she'll take whatever she can get.]
Though it probably wouldn't show quite so much at something like this anyway. It's more knowing I can do my job without him getting worked up over me having to go outside the gates.
no subject
[Even when things aren't so good between said people, Rogue still worried for them, especially in a world like theirs.]
Sometimes we just fuss louder than usual.
[Rogue pauses, thoughtfully and her features grow serious.]
Do you have a habit of... Hasty decision makin' out in the field?
no subject
[Which means she's still not one of the more cautious members of her team but then she figures that comes with the feline DNA. Not to say she can't plan but if there are better people for the job, she sees no reason not to let them get on with it and focus on what she does best.
Besides. At least her decision-making skills are better than they were when she was younger.]
Even then, it's not the fussing I mind so much as it is the hypocrisy. I'm not the only one with a wilder streak on my team and we all know it.
[And of them all, Brennan is probably the most similar in temperament to her, which is probably why they've clashed so often before now.]
