It's a party, ya'll
who: Everyone's invited!
what: That potluck he mentioned
when: Saturday afternoon
where: The park
warnings: None so far!
[True to form, Remy pulled out all the stops for this particular potluck. He has it on good authority that Rogue's bringing cornbread, but he's got what seems to be a wireless two-burner setup that he's brought along to the park, one of which is dominated by a very large pot of fragrant and spicy gumbo, and the other by a very large pot of cooked white rice, on warm. There's a small table with plastic-seeming (but totally biodegradable) bowls and utensils, two large coolers (because people might be bringing drinks), two big folding tables (for all the things that might be brought) and a big expanse of the park to cop a squat in and have some good grub, place some outdoors-y things, and have some fun! The park as a grill too, if someone wants to fire it up!]
(OOC: Feel free to post your own starters and have a ball! This is meant to be fun, after all. If you want Remy specifically, let me know! He'll be wandering around.)

[Which she can't really say she can't understand.
The mention of the flowers sees her reach for her wine, though she tries to make it seem somewhat casual in how she does so. Safe to say she votes they don't talk about that particular quirk of the last festival.]
Makes sense. Weather seems a little more stable here but we might as well make the best of the good weather while we have it.
no subject
...really? Livin' rocks?
[He chuckles.]
You must'a missed all the floodin'.
no subject
[She hasn't exactly gone looking for them, though there was a time during the exploration mission she'd been on that she'd wondered if they'd find any.]
Well all right. Putting aside the flooding but from what I hear that wasn't all down to the weather, either.
[Being part of the Guard, she hears things even if she's not on those missions.]
no subject
[And as interesting as that might be, that also wasn't the point of this gathering.]
I know ya ain' been here long, Shalimar. How's the Quarantine treatin' ya?
no subject
[Not just anywhere would snatch someone away from her and get away with it but she's here so she doesn't dwell on that.]
Still, there are worse places to end up. Lot more open minds around here.
[Possibly because there are also a lot of other mutants around here, not to mention everyone else who doesn't fit the standard regular human being of back home.]
What about you?
no subject
[But he nodded at her response. It seemed like they were in a similar place.]
Back home, mutants ain't liked so much, ya know? And some of us can't just hide what we are. [As if to accentuate that point, he removes his sunglasses. His eyes are pretty distinctive.]
People hate us 'cause we're different, 'cause they don't know what we're capable of, 'cause some of us over the years gave 'em reason to. Most of us just wanna live, but that don't matter. Here? It's nice. People are people.
no subject
Don't I know it. I guess back home we all got lucky enough to be able to hide what we are but even then, people get pretty funny about the New Mutants they know about. Let me tell you, the jokes about how I like my steak cooked were old before they started.
[Not least because there's been at least one instance where it was less a joke and more genuine cluelessness.]
no subject
My mother, birth mother that is, put me up for adoption 'cause she thought she gave birth to a demon.
[The steak comment did get his attention, though, and he raised an eyebrow.]
So, heightened senses? Reflexes? Dat sorta thing?
no subject
[She's honestly not sure what's worse. She doesn't remember much of the time before the experiments and the time after she definitely does not care to remember too closely.
She nods at the rest, stretching out a little.]
Yep. All that good stuff that comes with a solid dose of feline DNA.
[And plenty of the bad stuff but she won't admit that.]
no subject
Feline, eh? [He smiles.] I worth with a man who's got heightened senses, reflexes, rapid regeneration. Nasty temper, but dat probably comes from bein' short...an' a sourpuss. Name's Logan, but professionally, everybody calls him Wolverine. Yo' much more personable, for de record.
no subject
[There's a hint of a tease to her voice because it's not as though she tends to be bad tempered too often - but that's not to say she can't have a temper on her at times.]
The rest's mostly the same, though. Not sure I'd go as far as regeneration but I shake most things off pretty quickly. Doesn't come without its quirks, of course, but that's true of most things.
no subject
[And he shrugs.] Ya seem a might more friendly than Logan. He's a good man, though, just grouchy most 'a de time. Say's it my fault, not dat I could see why.
[Because he's not infuriating at all. Ever. Riiight.]
no subject
[She could easily see how someone disposed towards solitude to begin with would retreat further into that when faced with the standard reaction to mutancy.
But enough about that.]
So what's your thing?
no subject
[He nods and smirks when she asks about his powers.]
You know much about physics, cher? Potential an' kinetic energy?
no subject
[Heck, if the outgoing types can get fed up of dealing with people not knowing how to react to them, she figures it has to be a lot worse for those who weren't particularly personable in the first place.
Her expression at his response makes clear her answer even before she speaks it.]
I know there are mutants who can manipulate energy. Beyond that you're gonna have to get a little more specific.
no subject
He grins at her comments on energy, though.]
D'accord, mon cher. [He stoops down, picking up a small pebble, smaller than a marble, and holds it up between his thumb and index finger, making it the focus between them.] Everything's got potential energy. Turns into kinetic when it moves, converts back when it stops movin', non? My ability lets me find it, turn it into movin' energy all at once. De bigger de thing, the bigger the reaction.
[There's a flash of red light from behind those sunglasses of his and the pebble pulses briefly with a similar flair before he tosses it into the air and it explodes with a small pop, sort of like a popper on the 4th of July: nothing too violent or damaging, but loud.]
Jus' a taste, but dat's de idea.
no subject
Impressive. I guess that makes you closest to a molecular type, then? Only it's something else you're manipulating rather than yourself?
[It's more musing out loud than anything else, a thought soon passed as she moves on to something of far more interest.]
Though if you're planning fireworks later on, let me know. Too many of those and I don't think my ears would be too happy about it.
[Even when she's not actively trying, her hearing's sensitive enough for her to recognise that much.]
