[ CLOSED to denizens of Floor Six ]

[ The Kents didn't have much in the way of neighbours. Hamilton was a quiet town and they preferred it that way. And while Jon enjoys Hamilton County, he often daydreams of having friends close by or even playing team sports together. Kathy was great (and it helped that she knew his secret and kept it for him), but it never felt like it was enough.

So having neighbours around was both terrifying and exhilarating. After settling himself, Jon decided to visit each of his floor mates with a large bag of sour candies. After all, it's not like he can buy beer (adults drink beer right??) for them. When he runs into someone, his grin is casual. ]

Hi! I'm Jon. I'm your neighbour. Person.

[ Around the city ]

[ Like his father, Jon's hearing was sensitive. Thankfully, the intensity of the sounds tends to waver from loud to the normal range of a human being. Clapping his hands on his ears as Jon heads back home, he wishes it would remain in the normal range a little longer. He was not used to living in the city and he had only made a few trips to Metropolis when he was younger, none of them long enough to be memorable or familiar to him.

And right now, the city was deafening.

He runs right into anyone standing in his way, bowling them over completely. His expression is unfocused and glazed before clarity sinks in. ]

S-Sorry.

[ Jon claps his hands back over his ears with a wince. ] I'm sorry!

[ Fireflies ]

[ Jon had wanted to see the fireflies, watching the colours weave in and out. He hadn't thought it merited telling anyone he had gone out. After all, it was only fireflies. But then they drifted closer and Jon started to feel nervous.

One yellow firefly stung him on his neck and a flood of repressed feelings come rushing to the surface. Of other realities and forgotten memories. Of fading away. Jon hurriedly wipes away the tears that were starting to spill from his face. He needed to — Where was his dad? Why hadn't he come? He promised Jon. He promised he wouldn't let go. With a hiccup, Jon sits down, trying to wipe away his fears and regain his composure. All the while, hearing the laughter of Mr. Mxyzptlk in the back of his mind. ]

[ Mission, CLOSED to Steve Rogers (MCU) ]

[ Normally, Jon isn't all that keen when it comes to hanging out with grownups. They're boring and they hang over him, trying to keep an eye on him and be responsible. It's no fun and it gets tiring very quickly. But Steve had been nice and had reminded him of his own dad back home. The idea of doing a mission, a real mission meant he could be a real hero.

Plus Steve offered ice-cream, a sure-fire way into Jon's heart. After checking with Miss Jones and his parents, Jon takes part of his allowance and heads over to the ice-cream shop where they were supposed to meet. He climbs onto the stool with a jump in his gait. ]

Hey Mr. Rogers!

It's important to always consider and work towards your future, but you're too young to be worried about time, Jon-kun. If even I, who have a limited time on this earth, can get to where I am now, then you surely will succeed.

[His words, as corny as they're chosen, are honest sounding. He never says anything fake or flowery just for the sake of making someone feel better. They're always genuine.]

[ It may be corny, but it's no cornier than anyone Jon has ever heard. Plus, he is Superman's kid. He has heard way worse and literally has no way of gauging what is too corny and what isn't.

Unless it's puns. Jon gets puns ]

What do you think I should do?

Fufu, thank you, that's nice of you to say. Let's see... If it were my advice, I would say "Look at yourself and your path and try to make changes to improve yourself each day." That's the sort of thing you're looking to do, isn't it? To become a better person?

Then you should examine what makes a better person and work to embody that. ♪

[ It makes sense. Jon pushes his glasses up. ]

So what do you do? To be good?

I do whatever I believe is right without hesitation, no matter what~.

That's . . . super convenient.

[ Jon can't even wrap his mind around it. ]

Fufu, sometimes it means doing things that others may view you differently for. You may upset some people, but if you're doing what's right and what helps the most in the end, then that's fair, isn't it?

[He kind of has a villain's mindset so maybe he shouldn't be listened to... But he tries.]

Upsetting people doesn't sound fair.

[ It sounds downright horrible, actually. ]

Nothing is really fair. There's no one solution that will please everyone, so in the end, you'll always upset someone.

It's an unfortunate reality, so the most you can do is try to do the greatest amount of good.

[supersweet]

[ He has a hard time picturing any person in the world getting upset with Superman. Who would? Even if his father had enemies, the public always adored him. Loved him. ]

I . . . guess so. You know a lot about this stuff.

[Finishing off his crepe, he takes his time with a napkin, thinking about that.]

I spent a long time thinking about it. ["My life is going to be too short to miss anything like this." No, that won't do.] Everyone's eyes are always on me, so I have to be prepared, you know?

[supersweet]

Because you're a celebrity emperor?

[ Seriously, how does that work? Jon would love to know more. It sounds fascinating. He finishes his own piece with aplomb and the growing appetite of a child. ]

It must be hard, though. Having so many people look at you. I mean, can they really see you? Know you?

[finethanks]

Mhmm. [He smiles, folding both of his hands together.] That's very observant for someone of your age, Jon-kun. That's right; it can be difficult always appearing perfect to the public when I am far from it myself. At times, I worry that I might crumble and reveal things that no one, especially no fan of mine, should have to see.

But I have friends who support me in times of need, and that helps greatly.

[supersweet]

[ Jon smiles awkwardly. No one else his age would have said something like that, it's true. Most kids don't have the life experience Jon has either. He doesn't mind it and he's certainly gotten used to it but sometimes it's hard to act normal when he never feels normal. ]

You're really lucky to have them.
