[ jyn collects a number of useless details of this man before she even really decides to pay attention to what he's saying. greying beard, jovial tone, the easy teasing that reminds her of a much younger saw. no, it's probably only the beard that has her distracted.

this lack of attention means she's equally half distracted when she answers. ]

I don't normally... spend time with children.

[ not that she doesn't adore them, obvious by the way this little girl wrapped jyn around her little finger, but she didn't have loads of time with small children in her life. ]

[ He doesn't blame her for giving him the once over - he's an older guy, for one, and he probably overstepped some sort of personal boundary without realizing it. He figures as long as he keeps his voice good natured and friendly, which is natural to him anyway, they'll be alright. ]

[ she looks at the man askance again before deciding to come right out with it. ]

Must be a handsome guy. [ He doesn't even skip a beat, though he does look down at the girl who looks far more interested in getting Jyn's attention than teaching him how to properly throw petals into the river. Alex wings it instead, amused. ]

Anyone tell you you're blunt? [ So's he at times, so, hey. There's no rude tone to his voice, either - he's just trying to figure the girl out. ]

No. [ a beat, her attention turning back to the little girl when she feels a tug on her pants. instead of dropping a clump of flowers this time, jyn drops a single petal, on the girl's head. the serious countenance finally break and jyn is rewarded by a smile full of missing baby teeth as she shakes her head to let the petal fall to the ground. ]

I have been called abrupt to the point of grossly discourteous however. [ so yeah, she's been called blunt before. ] He's not my type.

[ which she also said directly to jim's face. ]

[ Definitely, definitely blunt. When Alex laughs, he hopes the other doesn't take it the wrong way.

He wasn't expected to be reminded of Meg, but here he is, feeling a pang of guilt in his abdomen. It ripples through to his chest, and his jaw clenches a little to counteract that. ]
