I ▹ FLOOD & DISASTER RELIEF
[ Jim's never been the kind to stay still, even during quiet and peaceful times. So when something goes wrong and people are in danger, it should come as no surprise that he's right in the thick of it.
After his network broadcast warning people of the dangers of getting too close to the rising waters, as well as asking for help in dealing with the damage and other consequences of the flood, he's made sure to set up a perimeter along the river, trying to get people to keep a somewhat safe distance from the waters. Still, it's impossible to make it completely safe or to isolate every single spot along the river, even with a lot of people helping out, and between that and the monsters crawling out of the water, anyone who finds themselves in a tough spot is likely to run into Jim.
Or rather, have him run towards them, possibly yelling out if he spots an oncoming danger, whether that is the rising water level or some wild creature getting a little too close, holding a phaser or a dagger in hand. ] Watch out!

II ▹ RECOVERY & SPARRING
[ Sometimes he likes to think nothing can stop him, if only he's stubborn enough. It usually worked out well back home, and even here when Bones was around, because a dermal regenerator, or some quick advanced surgery in more serious situations, would fix just about anything to perfection.
That's not the case, this time around. During one of the skirmishes with the flood creatures, he was attacked pretty viciously, and now that he's had the injury mostly treated, he's sporting a (yet healing) bite mark covering all around his shoulder and part of his upper arm. It doesn't bleed anymore, and as it heals he doesn't even have to keep it bandaged or wrapped up, but at times when he moves there's just a tinge of discomfort, a dull ache that makes him hiss.
Sometimes he's just sitting at work, pressing against the wound over his clothes, trying to ease the sore muscles. Ignoring it doesn't always work, but boy does he try.
A little later in the month, though, he gets more frustrated, and more intent on working through the mild pain and discomfort. For anyone who's a regular around the Perimeter Guard, Jim can be easily found around the training facilities, warming up on some gym equipment, or practicing a few simple moves on his own on a training mat.
What's left of his wound, as well as some bruising on the skin around it, is visible when he's only wearing a tank top, though he doesn't seem to pay it much mind, or tries not to anyway. If he spots anyone lingering around the area he'll look up and promptly ask— ] Wanna join in?

III ▹ WILCARD
[ Want to run into Jim elsewhere? Go right ahead! Also, if you'd like a prompt more specific to your character, feel free to ping me @
extreminator and I'll write one up for you! ♥ ]
I
When Jim calls out, Beverly instinctively reaches for her own phaser and turns towards the danger, protecting her two medics hauling their patient out on a stretcher.]
no subject
He has to find a way to get it to move away from the medic team, though. He motions for Beverly to lower the phaser so she won't catch the creature's attention much, then urges her to get away. ]
I'll distract it! Go!
[ He starts shooting at the creature himself, aiming repetitive shots at it until it turns to face him. It starts on a surprisingly fast pace for a creature its size, opening its large mandibles, the rows of teeth not inspiring Jim with a lot of confidence. ]
Hey! Come on!! [ He yells at the creature, hoping to get it to follow after him and away from Beverly's team. ]
no subject
However, it won't be long until she returns - there is no way she is leaving him behind.]
no subject
For now, though, he's not expecting her to show up again. Once he manages to get the crocodile to come after him, he sprints fast to put some distance between them, pulling out the dagger from where it's sheathed to his waist. Now he just needs to find an opening to try and land a good blow. ]

Jim! No!
no subject
Ignoring Beverly's cries, Jim waits until the massive crocodile is close enough, then he takes off running towards it without warning. The speed and sudden approach are enough that the creature can't react or open its jaws in time, and Jim jumps straight on top of it, digging the blade into its thick hide just above one of its forelegs. ]
no subject
Before she can get to them, the crocodile starts to roll with Jim still on its back.]
no subject
Now he can cross 'escape death by crushing' off his list. ]
no subject
I got you, come on it's going to -
[Stop. Realizing its prey has disappeared, the crocodile lands on its feet with a roar before lunging at the pair of them. Beverly thrusts out her wrist in what appears at first to be a futile gesture. But then, a moment later, a burst of magic energy bursts from the bracelet on her wrist. It sends the crocodile flying while forming a protective shield around her and Jim. She looks down at where he sits on the ground.]
Are you all right?
no subject
The roar grounds him again, and his attention shifts back to the crocodile. His heart quickens when he realizes it's charging at them, and not really noticing that Beverly has a plan, he puts himself between Beverly and the creature. While not a guarantee she won't be harmed, at least it should give her a bit more time to try and get away.
But then the hit never comes. Jim startles when the crocodile is pushed away from them forcefully, his eyes wide as he looks from the shield and back to Beverly. ]
Yeah. Yeah, I'm... fine. What's that?
no subject
Defense spell. Lucretia made it for me.
[Dryly:]
Apparently thinks I'm prone to getting myself into trouble.
no subject
He raises an eyebrow at her tone, lips curling into a hint of a smile. ]
Yeah, I wonder where she got that crazy idea.
no subject
[Beverly, you're the heedless one on the Enterprise-D and you know it.]
no subject
[ Unsurprisingly, there's not even a hint of seriousness to Jim's tone. ]

no subject
[ He's so full of bullshit. ]
We should probably start moving away from the river. In case our new friend starts missing us and comes back.
no subject
And the defensive shield will only hold so long.
no subject
[ He follows as she leads the way, keeping an eye out towards the river all the while. Just in case. ]
We should catch up, you and I. You know, when things calm down again. Feels like I haven't talked to you in forever. [ Even though she probably has caught a glimpse of him a few times around the hospital as of late. ]
no subject
[She turns and smiles softly.]
I'm sorry about that. It's just... all the festivals and parties... it's starting to get to me a little bit.
no subject
[ He smiles at her. ]
How are they getting to you? Did something happen?
no subject
no subject
[ He understands what she means, though. It can make some people feel torn. Jim himself included. ]
no subject
[She moves a tree branch out of their way then stops to look behind them. Her tricorder shows no signs of the beast, but still she is nervous. Only once they start walking again does she continue her thought.]
I lost my home to a plague as well.
no subject
You did? [ His attention shifts momentarily to Beverly at that remark, brow arching just so. ] I didn't know that. What happened?
