I ▹ FLOOD & DISASTER RELIEF
[ Jim's never been the kind to stay still, even during quiet and peaceful times. So when something goes wrong and people are in danger, it should come as no surprise that he's right in the thick of it.
After his network broadcast warning people of the dangers of getting too close to the rising waters, as well as asking for help in dealing with the damage and other consequences of the flood, he's made sure to set up a perimeter along the river, trying to get people to keep a somewhat safe distance from the waters. Still, it's impossible to make it completely safe or to isolate every single spot along the river, even with a lot of people helping out, and between that and the monsters crawling out of the water, anyone who finds themselves in a tough spot is likely to run into Jim.
Or rather, have him run towards them, possibly yelling out if he spots an oncoming danger, whether that is the rising water level or some wild creature getting a little too close, holding a phaser or a dagger in hand. ] Watch out!

II ▹ RECOVERY & SPARRING
[ Sometimes he likes to think nothing can stop him, if only he's stubborn enough. It usually worked out well back home, and even here when Bones was around, because a dermal regenerator, or some quick advanced surgery in more serious situations, would fix just about anything to perfection.
That's not the case, this time around. During one of the skirmishes with the flood creatures, he was attacked pretty viciously, and now that he's had the injury mostly treated, he's sporting a (yet healing) bite mark covering all around his shoulder and part of his upper arm. It doesn't bleed anymore, and as it heals he doesn't even have to keep it bandaged or wrapped up, but at times when he moves there's just a tinge of discomfort, a dull ache that makes him hiss.
Sometimes he's just sitting at work, pressing against the wound over his clothes, trying to ease the sore muscles. Ignoring it doesn't always work, but boy does he try.
A little later in the month, though, he gets more frustrated, and more intent on working through the mild pain and discomfort. For anyone who's a regular around the Perimeter Guard, Jim can be easily found around the training facilities, warming up on some gym equipment, or practicing a few simple moves on his own on a training mat.
What's left of his wound, as well as some bruising on the skin around it, is visible when he's only wearing a tank top, though he doesn't seem to pay it much mind, or tries not to anyway. If he spots anyone lingering around the area he'll look up and promptly ask— ] Wanna join in?

III ▹ WILCARD
[ Want to run into Jim elsewhere? Go right ahead! Also, if you'd like a prompt more specific to your character, feel free to ping me @
extreminator and I'll write one up for you! ♥ ]
II
What happens when he gets close enough for Jim to look up and ask if he wants to join in is more of a mildly-impressed, mildly-concerned eyebrow furrow than it is a "hey". ]
What, looking for a test run after you got an arm reattached? When did that happen?
[ Nothing says angling for friendship quite like immediately saying something argumentative, in the Finn dictionary. ]

He's got a good feeling that's not something he'll have to worry about with Finn, though. Thankfully so, because it really had been great fun and all, but he'd still like to get to know Finn a little better, maybe even strike up a friendship.
The approach only makes him surer of this, and he sketches a vague smile when Finn mentions his injury. ]
Something like that— almost. [ He glances at the wound, then shrugs. ] Early in the month. I can thank the creatures crawling out of the river, they aren't exactly friendly.
no subject
What he doesn't have to think about, he certainly rarely ever does. ]
Yeah, no kidding. I'm starting to think this moon has more monsters living on it than it should be able to support.
[ Those things seem awfully densely-populated sometimes, to say nothing for the variety, and this moon can only be so big. But without fail, every time there's flooding, every time a mission goes out beyond the perimeter, they start flocking in. ]
no subject
I wouldn't go so far. I think the animals are just... different from what we're used to.
[ He frowns, giving that some more thought. ]
Actually, the Quarantine itself might have something to do with the level of wildlife we see. Not only is it built right in the middle of the wild, so we're completely surrounded by the forest, but there might be something in the walls, and the energy barriers put up all around the Quarantine, that actually lures animals closer. So in reality, we might not even have that many wild creatures on the moon as a whole, but the population density may just be higher around the Quarantine.

It's a well-founded explanation. Smart. Finn's never been too much for scientific-sounding pursuits. Strategy, yes, anything he might have to know or that he picked up about tech. Never much call for more than that. ]
Guess it helps to think of it that way. I'd like them better spaced out. I mean, I also like most of the people around here better in one piece.
no subject
[ He's teasing a little. Honestly he can't imagine anyone not being used to animals at all, even though he's well aware how that's a possibility. ]
Not all animals out there are violent, you know. Even among the predators, there are a number of them who seem more interested in keeping their distance if they can. [ He glances at his injury, then presses his lips. ] Clearly not the one I ran into, but... you know. I still am in one piece.
no subject
[ He's not entirely joking, but he's wearing enough of a smile to not seem all that sincere about it. Weirdness is part of the charm of this place sometimes.
What's dumb is Finn can't even judge anyone for getting chomped down on. If Taako hadn't had a healing potion, he'd probably be dead by monster chomp. So in lieu of judging, he brings to bear Active Concern. ]
Like I said. I like you better in one piece. You picked one hell of a way to get yourself a scar, though.
no subject
[ But it's not like Jim's seen Finn at his worst yet, or even anything-less-than-good, so what does he know. ]
Yeah, I bet you do. [ He says it with a grin and a wink. Look, he can't not tease Finn. ] Did I? Which other way should I have picked, then?
[ He's not asking seriously for the record, he doesn't actually go around starting fights with every monster he sees just so he can get a cool scar. A really cool scar. ]

And ah. Right. Jim does the flirting thing. He wasn't a hundred percent on how much of that could get written up to rave atmosphere. Not all of it, at the very least. Finn is taken aback, one part flustered and one part mild offense. That's his default reaction to most things. Pregaming on taking offense, in this case on Jim's hypothetical behalf. ]
Are there people who'd like you better cut in half? [ JIM... IF THERE ARE, DON'T BE FRIENDS WITH THEM. ] Not a suggestion, by the way.
no subject
It's unexpected enough that it gets a laugh out of him, grin wide as he swats a hand at Finn's arm. ]
Come on! That's not what I meant and you know it. [ He huffs and shakes his head. ] Flirting's no fun when you go and take things literally like that, you know.
no subject
I think you mean it's less fun for you. [ ... wait ] And in my defense, I didn't think I was supposed to be flirting today.
[ Does he ever think that though? ]
no subject
Well— yes, obviously. [ He grins cheekily and shrugs. ] If you feel like it, I guess. Nothing wrong with it, just some harmless fun. I mean, I flirt with most my friends. It's a bonding experience.
[ Also his friends are hot okay, doesn't mean he'll do anything about it. ]
no subject
-- right.
[ Apropos of nothing, he sort of. Leans against the nearest piece of gym equipment. It's not the most natural or relaxed motion. Sort of like a rehearsal of something he's seen in action more than he's actually had to do. But he's trying. ]
Well. You're still handsome. So that's good.
no subject
More than good, I'd say. It's pretty great.
[ Look, nothing wrong with some self-love and vanity, is there? Not like it hurts anyone. But he's not going to be too smug about it, which is why he tips his head at Finn. ]
But thank you. You don't look too shabby yourself. [ He's the one leaning back a little now, gesturing at Finn. ] Anyway, what are you doing around here? Looking for a sparring buddy, or just hoping to do some cardio?
no subject
Finn raises his eyebrows, not really trying to cover up the flattered amusement that crosses his face at the returned compliment. ]
I usually come here to spar with Jyn Erso. [ ... well. ] So it's a little more like I usually come here to get thrown around by Jyn Erso. If she's here. Cardio's my backup.
no subject
He laughs softly at the mention of Jyn, nodding in complete agreement. ]
Boy, do I know how you feel. [ Guess what, Jyn wipes the floor with Jim, too. And he likes it more than he probably should. ] Well, if you wanna go a couple rounds, I've been trying to put in some exercise, see if I get my shoulder working right again.
no subject
He tips his head to one side, considering. ]
Yeah. I'm up for it if you are. [ He's here to get in a little extra training. Might as well actually do it. ] We can keep it light.
no subject
Hey, don't take it too easy on me. I'm not that out of shape. [ He moves to the middle of the training mat, nodding for Finn to get ready and join him. ] Come on.
no subject
[ He takes off his jacket and carefully leaves it folded over the nearest bench. ]
Last thing I'm interested in is watching you put yourself back in the hospital. [ And, as he's coming to the middle of the mat and shaking his arms out a little: ] Or needing to go and thinking you could argue me out of dragging you there.
[ All of Finn's friends are very much That Type. ]
no subject
Bit of strain won't kill me. Come on. [ He hops a little and shakes himself off some, lifting his hands up and folding his arms into a loose guarding stance. ] Take a swing at me.
no subject
Finn goes ahead and throws a couple of punches Jim's way. They're not the hardest things in the world, but that mostly boils down to the difference between sparring and all-out fighting. ]
