[Open with some closed prompts] Where have all the good men gone?
who: Steve Rogers and anyone else!
what: Various bonding type things
when: General March catch-all
where: Different locations, pick your favorite!
warnings: Nothing yet. Will update as needed?
I. Training exercises [OPEN]
[For any members of the Perimeter Guard hanging around the compound when they aren't on jobs or for those who just frequent the local gyms and need some extra exercise, Steve can be found at both, either very early or late when there aren't as many spectators, running through his routines. It's mostly for his own mental health, although during the midday he offers to do self-defense and combat training or take jogs with people who just want some company. If there are people he's spoken to before that have expressed some interest, he'll probably drag them into a session or two.]
So how do you feel about obstacle courses? We could race.
II. Shield toss beyond the city fences [OPEN]
[Of course Steve Rogers is exploring out alone in the dangerous open wilderness. Of course he's out of his Guard uniform and wearing the navy blue issued to him by SHIELD before he ended up in Quarantine. And of course he's poked his nose right into the middle of a nest of lizard-like creatures each the size of very large dogs, which look none too happy about the human's arrival. This normally wouldn't be too much of a problem, but Steve has somehow managed to find them in a sea of tall grass where they are hunting and the pack is far greater in number than even a super-soldier can handle alone. He's left stranded on a tall rock surrounded by very tall, angry versions of Komodo dragons that are slinking around below, trying to figure out how to reach their dinner. If he tries to attack, he'll most likely lose his one defense and possibly a limb trying to retrieve it. He might make a run for it, but without knowing where all the lizards are, his chances are pretty bad. If anyone happens to pass by or overhead, at least he has their attention.]
This is probably when I should call for help. But it'd be pretty bad for a Search and Rescue member to need rescued. How about it, boys? How smart are you, exactly?
[He may just make a run for it.]
III. Aftermath from his walk in the wilds [OPEN]
[Within the city limits on a few evenings Steve is found limping down the streets. He's probably on his way to buy a burger or some easy food from one of the familiar places he goes to after a hard day out. He has definitely been thrown around and is sporting some interesting scratches and bruises, which mostly means he'll take his meals outside so he doesn't bother other patrons. But he could stand to clean up.
If he happens to run into someone literally by not watching where he's going or if someone gives him and his battered style funny looks he'll stop and give them a polite nod.]
Sorry. I hope I'm not disturbing you.
[It's a zombie Cap cosplay!]
[Closed to MCU!Bucky] Tracking down an old friend (again)
[Steve did try to behave and respect Bucky's privacy. He's been trying to give the man some space and not crowd him, but when his Bucky mentioned that James Barnes of the other world knew who Pierce was and had a history with him, he had to find him. So he starts tracking, asking people around the city if they've seen a guy that looks like Bucky around, and hunting through the city is thankfully not as hard as tracking a man across an entire country, so eventually, with painstaking effort, Steve does catch up. He approaches him in a secluded spot away from everyone else, dropping down before Bucky can bolt.]
I was hoping that you'd call me. Or leave a message at least.
[Closed to Hiccup] Baking can be an adventure too
[As promised, Steve comes to visit Hiccup with a bag of cake making supplies. He might be a bit late considering it's a few days after their talk about his birthday, but Steve is still there and still keeping his promise. He contacts Hiccup and makes sure he's home and then heads over, knocking on the room door of the first floor where the young man and dragon are staying.]
Ready to tackle the oven?
[Closed to Pierce] Tea with enemies
[He's not happy with his own decision to meet with Pierce, but he also hadn't been entirely happy to meet with Loki the first time he did it. This choice is Steve's attempt at keeping an open mind and giving even the worst possible figure in his mind a chance to prove that he's not just out for destruction the way Steve wants to assume he is. It goes against everything Steve believes of him, but at least at this point he doesn't think Pierce will make any hostile moves. Not yet.
So he shows up as planned at the diner, nodding once he finds Pierce even if the motion is slightly stiff.]
After you.
[Because he's going to make Pierce go in first.]
[Closed to Tony Stark] Is this a serious talk?
[Tony did invite him to visit and see his work, so Steve, out of the blue, decides he's going to do that. He also wants to visit JARVIS and Dum-E, so it's not entirely a professional visit, but since Tony seems to be caught up in his own business most of the time, it's up to Steve to bridge the gap. He shows up at the workshop doorstep, greeting JARVIS and asking if Tony is around. And then, of course, making conversation.]
Are you making sure he remembers to eat? He was looking a little thin before.
[You're welcome, Stark.]

Are you making sure he remembers to eat? He was looking a little thin before.
[You're welcome, Stark.]
no subject
[Tony blinks once at that, but reaches out to take the bag. What is it with everyone he knows trying to feed him? He'd suspect a conspiracy but he'd probably have to include JARVIS in on it, and that's just asking for trouble.]
So what's all this?
[He nods towards Steve's setup as he opens the bag and starts pulling everything out. He's going to assume at least some of it Steve brought for himself, unless he decided to load Tony up for a week for some reason.]
no subject
[Maybe it's too forward. Tony probably has his friends to take care of him and look after his habits, but Steve assumes that the food will find some use even if Tony ends up giving it away. He isn't sure how he can help JARVIS out otherwise and the AI should get something. This is as much a gift for him as the game is for Dum-E.]
I figured that most people would eat hamburgers. It seemed like a safe bet.
[Steve takes up a position by the workbench, watching Tony examine the contents of the bag.]
What are you working on?
no subject
[Tony gives him a dry look and settles on the edge of the table, fishing out one of the burgers to hold back out to Steve. If it's lunch, then they're both eating.]
Eh, same old. Nothing hugely interesting at the moment. Unless you're looking for something?
[He almost visibly perks up at that. He hasn't managed to come up with anything to make Steve yet, and that just feels wrong.]
no subject
[He shows Tony by giving Dum-E a small rubber ball and letting him knock over the arrangement of cups. It's a simple game, but Steve thinks the robot probably doesn't play that often.]
Actually, I... do have something in mind, but I wouldn't want to ask you for anything.
no subject
Tony watches the whole thing with open amusement, at least until Steve says the perfect thing to distract him.]
Yeah? Whatcha thinking?
[He might sound just a touch too eager.]
no subject
Good job. You can set them up in different formations. See if you can knock over all of them.
[He looks back at Tony, hesitating as the question hovers between them. He can tell that Tony would probably enjoy the project, but this isn't his world or the man he came to know as his close friend. He has to remind himself that he can't do things the way he's used to.]
...I was thinking that I haven't been Captain America in a while. And maybe that should change.
no subject
Okay. [It's drawn out a bit slowly.] If you're looking for me to make you a shield, I don't exactly have vibranium handy.
[He even mostly manages not to wince at the reminder that he probably owes someone else a shield, too.]
no subject
I have a shield.
[It's hesitation that keeps him from asking for help, but he doesn't show the insecurity on his face. He keeps it locked in as he looks back at Dum-E and his game and wonder if the robot's creator would understand if he told his story. Maybe not. Or maybe he's just be disappointed.]
I have a suit, but it's been through a lot and it's the only one I came in with. I have the Perimeter Guard uniform, but I don't think I should keep wearing it if I'm not on duty. The SHIELD issue is great, but it's starting to show some wear. Not sure if anyone in the city would know what to do with it either.
no subject
You looking for a fix, or for me to make a new one?
[It will be slightly more annoying to do without Tony's usual resources, but he can probably manage it.
Though a thought occurs to him a moment later.]
You're still working for SHIELD?
no subject
If you have time and want to take a look at it, maybe you can patch it up. Replacing the whole thing would probably be costly and I don't know what you'll make of it.
[SHIELD had implemented some of the innovations their Tony had come up with. Lighter, stronger material to resist stronger blows and rougher wear. But even that only went so far. Steve always managed to work things over too roughly.]
I work with SHIELD. I was reporting to the President before I came here.
no subject
It's a little getting off the topic at hand, though, so Tony nods slowly rather than trying to poke at it more. He can focus, occasionally.]
I can take a look, sure. No promises, but. [He trails off into a shrug. Steve probably knows better than Tony himself does exactly what is and isn't easily available in the Quarantine.] Wouldn't do to have you running around unprotected.
no subject
[He seems perfectly satisfied by Tony's stipulation. It's a request he's been putting off for some time, trying to avoid asking either Stark or any of the semi-familiar Avengers for anything and interfere with their business. He's been telling himself he's fine without it. If the uniform eventually takes too much wear that'll be a sign he does belong to the Guard... but some part of him just can't let go.]
I have the shield. It just helps to have a little extra help. In case I fall.
[The way he says that is perfectly natural. he expects to fall from large heights no matter what colors he's wearing.]
no subject
Do you have a vendetta against parachutes too?
[What is it with people he knows and diving off things? He can't catch them all, though he's probably going to try.
But rather than dwell, he makes an impatient gimme motion.]
Did you bring it with you? I can start looking it over now.
no subject
"Too"? So your friends have some habits of falling?
[Or leaping, probably. He doesn't deny it, that's for sure. When Tony asks for the suit, Steve pauses. Does Tony think he carried it there?]
I'm wearing it.
[It's easier to keep with him if it's already on.]
no subject
That's going to make it a little tough for me to examine it, then.
[He's sort of impressed with how even his voice sounds.]
no subject
You can't see it like this?
[Can't Tony examine it while he's still wearing it? Surely it can't be that hard, right?]
I can leave it if you want to keep it here.
no subject
Well, I mean. I could. But people generally don't love having someone stare that closely at them for a while.
no subject
He pulls his shirt over his head, showing the navy blue suit underneath it. It's not like he's naked.]
Tony Stark is shy. I'll have to remember to tell Bucky this.
no subject
If you were looking for an excuse to strip down in the middle of my workroom, all you had to do was ask.
[What, like he's going to turn down the view?]
no subject
Do I need an excuse?
[Tony was the one that wanted to see the suit after all. Steve undoes his jeans and pulls them down. He has to remove his shoes to get them off, but he does that with ease. This isn't the first time he's needed to change quickly. He's left in the SHIELD blue uniform, standing there to let Tony examine it.]
It's built to take a lot of stress, but I guess running into giant beetles and wrestling lizards isn't doing me many favors.
no subject
What is this, a kevlar mix?
[Tony's attention is focused now a he drags a stool over. He's gonna need to get some scans, sure, but while Steve is here he might as well get as much out of this as he can.]
no subject
That's right. It's mixed with some compound you'd... probably have to ask someone else about, but I know it can take a full charge from one of the beetles.
[And resist explosive force. But that's necessary in their line of work.]
no subject
[He could probably figure it out anyway. But why take the hard road if you don't have to.
Tony does at least stop himself from reaching out to run his fingers over the material. That seems just a bit too familiar.]
Okay, so good new and bad news.
no subject
[To Steve it makes perfect sense. Tony is a scientist. He'll be able to take the material apart and understand it, so there's no reason for Steve not to agree to that kind of test.]
Shoot.
no subject
Good news, I can probably fix it. Bad news, it might take a little time.
