[semi-closed mingle] kigu party!!!
who: The IPRE + cr + adjacent cr
what: exactly what it says on the tin: it's a kigu party lads
when: second weekend of march
where: Casa Del Taco
warnings: none atm! will update if necessary
[There's something strange about knowing he's been here an entire year. Twelve months ago Taako stepped out of the portal into this world and while it's tempting to be kind of morose about it (especially after the past month) he's trying to kick things into a slightly more positive gear. The party is his idea but the theme is Hana's, an idle suggestion about how fun it would be to get everyone into a kigu. The best part about the idea is that it requires minimal effort on Taako's party, because for all that he loves going all out for parties, sometimes it's nice to just throw something together. Especially when he's more interested in sorting out his relationship with Kravitz or hanging out with Barry, who he hasn't properly seen for over a decade. So it's a party but it's a laid back party, texts are sent out a week in advance and he spends any free time preparing for the night.
The house is left relatively undecorated aside from the addition of several oversized cushions and beanbags in the living rooms, but Taako also casts Magnificent Mansion to expand the space. He adds two home theatres, for movies, video games or karaoke, depending on who's in control of the room at the time. There are also extra bedrooms, in case anyone wants to crash for the night.
While the theme of the night - wear a goddamn kigu and look cute as fuck - isn't being enforced by Taako, it is being enforced by Hana, so anyone brave enough to get past the door without a kigu might have to spend the night avoiding a tiny meka pilot.
As expected for a party hosted by the twins, food plays a fairly big role, although like the rest of the evening they've gone for a more lowkey affair. Sliders, falafel, tamales, vegetable platters with dips, about five different kinds of fries (zucchini, polenta, kumera, potato, jicama) and mini pizzas; things that are easy to pop on a plate and eat without making a mess, but it's all fresh and delicious. The dessert and snack options are a little more impressive, between the flavoured popcorns and well kitted out waffle bar. There's candy and Taako's signature macarons, along with a veritable selection of wine, beer and punch, the latter both spiked and virgin.
Rather than do something as simple as baking cookies for everyone, Lup and Taako have a much more fun idea in mind. They've prepared separated batches of sugar cookie dough and laid out spices, flavours and additives; there's cinnamon, vanilla, choc chips, butterscotch, lemon juice, and mint, amongst pretty much any baking ingredient (here's some ideas for inspiration). Be careful not to mess up the wet/dry balance of the dough, although ruined cookies can be a bonding experience. Once they're baked (it doesn't take long), there's confectioner's sugar, butter, milk, water for whatever icing characters desire, as well as toppings such as sprinkles and crushed nuts.
There are a few things to keep people entertained throughout the evening. The sun room has been delegated as a mini day spa kind of space, with sheet masks, nail polish, lotions, and an assortment of hair care tools. There's nothing that's too complicated or that'll get too messy, but anyone who wants to get comfy and indulge in a little self-care is more than welcome to kick back and relax.
In those home theatres there are movies, games and karaoke songs from all different time periods and realities. Anything from Taako's media library is available, plus some extra video games that both Hana and Cisco supplied, from racing to PVP battles to VR. And a few very bad dating sims for shits and giggles. In the rest of the house, more traditional games are available, whether that’s board games like Clue and Twister, or party games like truth or dare and two truths and a lie. At one point someone breaks out a bag of marshmallows to play fluffy bunny. (There are so many of these things, make them up, I'm not your dad.)
Despite the general atmosphere in the rest of the Quarantine during Sampremi, the party is kept relatively tame, although some of the games might get a little risqué as the night goes on, it's not as if he can control what people do. So long as everyone's having fun, he's happy.]

One-hundo percent serious, my dude. It was a good year.
[Until the end, but she's skipping that for now.]
no subject
[ He's smiling back a little, though. At least she's got good humor about it. ]
If you learn to speak porg, I could use some lessons. We've got a ship full of them back home. Be nice to get a jump on handling it.
no subject
[She doubts it would be possible unless they were also more sapient creatures like the animals in animal world had been, but she's not gonna let that stop her from at least trying.]
How come your ship's full of them?
no subject
a very valid question. ]
-- I haven't even asked. My friend left to train somewhere and when she came back they were just.
[ He makes a weird flappy, finger-wiggling gesture of some kind. He can't believe this. It's been like a month, how has he not asked Rey what the deal is. ]
There.
[ Lup is part of this mystery now, he doesn't make the rules. ]
She went straight into a firefight with those things on-board, too. There's no way she dropped them and then picked them back up. What the hell were they doing?
no subject
[ Lup laughs, pretty amazed by that and now super curious too. What had Finn's friend even done? ]
I'm loving this, you have to tell me when you ask them about it!
[ It's a fluffy animal mystery, she can definitely get behind that. ]
no subject
It's a strange, strange world. ]
I'll make sure I remember. Not every day you get a porg mystery. Normally too busy hearing them scream from a kitchen cabinet.
no subject
I gotta say, I draw the line at cute shit in my kitchen. That's sacred ground.
no subject
Interesting place to draw the line. Pretty sure if there's one place any animal is guaranteed to go, it's gonna be where the food is.
no subject
[ Reasons why Magnus wasn't allowed a dog, the poor man. ]
no subject
[ Finn has reached an overall stage of equilibrium in his relationship to Taako. He'd die for him, he's easy like that. He never asked him what he does for money or anything, though. ]
no subject
[Finn, your priorities...]

no subject
[Lasso those eyebrows, boy!]
But yeah we do cakes, cupcakes, cookies, all kinda stuff. What about you?
no subject
I'm a soldier. It's, uh. Kind of the only thing I'm good at. So you know. Signed on with the Perimeter Guard. I figured I could put it to use and try out some hobbies in my downtime.
[ He looks down at himself. ]
Learn what kigus are.
no subject
Oh yeah? Do you like it in the guard?
[ The elf smiles a little as he eyes his kigu. ]
Well, you obviously started in the best place.
no subject
[ He has opinions about the length of the boot camp for a militia that accepts people with little to no experience, and goodness knows it's on the messier side. But it's not the First Order. There's a lot of forgiveness to give when he knows he's allowed to leave if he wants. ]
Meeting your brother definitely made things different, too. It's not always bad.
no subject
[ Lup knows little to nothing about the guard, but they're there to keep everyone safe, and she can definitely appreciate that. ]
Taako has that effect on people. It's a bit of a whirlwind, and then suddenly your life is full of magic, macaroons and sarcasm.
[ She sounds so fond. Taako was amazing, no matter how much he tried to hide it under layers of asshole. ]
no subject
[ Turning Poe into a bird, arguably one of the most innocuous things Taako has ever actually done in any angle to his life or friends by this point. Finn never forgets tho. That's his style. ]
Big whirlwind.
no subject
[ Some people had been real dicks about it, and that just makes her sister mode activate. ]
Sometimes you just need a bit of fresh air in your life. Even if it might rip off the roof as well.
WOW idk how i lost this notif my bad
[ What's the word. Hm. Because yeah, people definitely got a little too up in arms about it. Poe was like "Taako made me a bird and it was great" and Finn was like "why are you like this as a person", and then at some point. The network got real intense. ]
He didn't really think through how he told anyone about it. At all. He's one of the best people I know, but. [ uhhh ] Let's just say he's mostly roofless.
