[semi-closed mingle] kigu party!!!
who: The IPRE + cr + adjacent cr
what: exactly what it says on the tin: it's a kigu party lads
when: second weekend of march
where: Casa Del Taco
warnings: none atm! will update if necessary
[There's something strange about knowing he's been here an entire year. Twelve months ago Taako stepped out of the portal into this world and while it's tempting to be kind of morose about it (especially after the past month) he's trying to kick things into a slightly more positive gear. The party is his idea but the theme is Hana's, an idle suggestion about how fun it would be to get everyone into a kigu. The best part about the idea is that it requires minimal effort on Taako's party, because for all that he loves going all out for parties, sometimes it's nice to just throw something together. Especially when he's more interested in sorting out his relationship with Kravitz or hanging out with Barry, who he hasn't properly seen for over a decade. So it's a party but it's a laid back party, texts are sent out a week in advance and he spends any free time preparing for the night.
The house is left relatively undecorated aside from the addition of several oversized cushions and beanbags in the living rooms, but Taako also casts Magnificent Mansion to expand the space. He adds two home theatres, for movies, video games or karaoke, depending on who's in control of the room at the time. There are also extra bedrooms, in case anyone wants to crash for the night.
While the theme of the night - wear a goddamn kigu and look cute as fuck - isn't being enforced by Taako, it is being enforced by Hana, so anyone brave enough to get past the door without a kigu might have to spend the night avoiding a tiny meka pilot.
As expected for a party hosted by the twins, food plays a fairly big role, although like the rest of the evening they've gone for a more lowkey affair. Sliders, falafel, tamales, vegetable platters with dips, about five different kinds of fries (zucchini, polenta, kumera, potato, jicama) and mini pizzas; things that are easy to pop on a plate and eat without making a mess, but it's all fresh and delicious. The dessert and snack options are a little more impressive, between the flavoured popcorns and well kitted out waffle bar. There's candy and Taako's signature macarons, along with a veritable selection of wine, beer and punch, the latter both spiked and virgin.
Rather than do something as simple as baking cookies for everyone, Lup and Taako have a much more fun idea in mind. They've prepared separated batches of sugar cookie dough and laid out spices, flavours and additives; there's cinnamon, vanilla, choc chips, butterscotch, lemon juice, and mint, amongst pretty much any baking ingredient (here's some ideas for inspiration). Be careful not to mess up the wet/dry balance of the dough, although ruined cookies can be a bonding experience. Once they're baked (it doesn't take long), there's confectioner's sugar, butter, milk, water for whatever icing characters desire, as well as toppings such as sprinkles and crushed nuts.
There are a few things to keep people entertained throughout the evening. The sun room has been delegated as a mini day spa kind of space, with sheet masks, nail polish, lotions, and an assortment of hair care tools. There's nothing that's too complicated or that'll get too messy, but anyone who wants to get comfy and indulge in a little self-care is more than welcome to kick back and relax.
In those home theatres there are movies, games and karaoke songs from all different time periods and realities. Anything from Taako's media library is available, plus some extra video games that both Hana and Cisco supplied, from racing to PVP battles to VR. And a few very bad dating sims for shits and giggles. In the rest of the house, more traditional games are available, whether that’s board games like Clue and Twister, or party games like truth or dare and two truths and a lie. At one point someone breaks out a bag of marshmallows to play fluffy bunny. (There are so many of these things, make them up, I'm not your dad.)
Despite the general atmosphere in the rest of the Quarantine during Sampremi, the party is kept relatively tame, although some of the games might get a little risqué as the night goes on, it's not as if he can control what people do. So long as everyone's having fun, he's happy.]

He's rocking his kigu porg-style, which Lup was kind enough to free his hands from, so while he's doing his perusing of. Stuff. He's also occasionally picking up a little bottle of nail polish or lotion or whatever to have a closer look.
Finn doesn't know Kravitz. He's almost positive he's never seen the guy before. But generally when he happens upon someone staring into the middle distance like they're maybe waiting for life to fall apart around them, he's never been able to help a pang of sympathy.
Finn met a lot of people for the first time while he was holding random swap-meet items and mentally falling into the eternal void. It's a mood. ]
Not much for parties?
no subject
Ah - sorry, I...
[ He chuckles, embarrassed at having been caught so thoroughly off guard. ]
Just... needed a minute. As much as it's nice to see people, this isn't exactly what I'm used to.
[ To say the least. ]
no subject
Yeah, I know the feeling. First party I went to here didn't have these things to worry about, at least. [ He holds his hand up for a second, kind of a universal "that's right, I hope no one told you all parties involve kigus" gesture.
There's been a feeling of almost solidarity, if he's honest. Meet someone new, you're both wearing the least dignified thing in the galaxy. Makes it less weird trying to start a conversation. ]
I'm Finn.
no subject
I almost got away with not wearing it, but... well. They know where I live.
[ A vague gesture that somehow manages to indicate the entire place. No getting away from it when your bedroom is literally ten steps away for you to go and change, and even if it wasn't, portaling around the city is one of the few things you're still actually able to do.
He offers a hand to shake. ]
Kravitz. You're... Taako's friend? I think he's mentioned you.
no subject
[ Jyn knows where he lives, and sometimes that's a terror. Sometimes it's nice to know she knows. Depends on the day. Finn reaches out to give his hand a firm shake. ]
And yeah, I'm a friend of his. Not sure I've heard anything about you, but he doesn't make a habit of getting too personal. It's good to meet you. [ A beat. ] If anything he said about me sounded really weird, there's a fifty-fifty chance he made it up. Just for the record.

[ Kravitz makes a valiant effort not to let it sting at all that Taako's never mentioned him, even if it is definitely true that he doesn't make a habit of being all that open about... things. That'll be why. At least that's what he's going to choose to believe. ]
I don't remember anything specifically, but it's something I've learned to keep in mind with him anyway.
[ He chuckles, a vague awkwardness about it, and clears his throat. ]
So, what's...
[ A gesture at... well, all of Finn, or more specifically the getup he's come in. Everyone seems to be dressed as something particular, but Kravitz isn't sure he's ever seen one of whatever this is. ]
no subject
Finn looks down at himself like he managed to forget how weird it is to be wearing a kigu within the past thirty seconds or so. He didn't forget, but like. It sure is there, isn't it. ]
Oh, uh. It's a porg. They're from my galaxy. If you ever wanna see some for yourself, I know there are some living on this moon. Very hard to get rid of.
no subject
[ Seems a weird name. Kravitz just blinks and tilts his head, trying to picture what a real one of those must look like. ]
Well, I guess at least yours isn't quite as on the nose as...
[ He gestures to himself, and fades in and out of skeleton form in brief illustration. A skeleton within a skeleton. ]
1/2
Please hold, because what was that, what the actual fuck happened here. What the fuck? He was a skeleton??? He just went in on that brief transformation like he was just showing someone that he happened to be wearing skeleton-pattern socks before he got his kigu. He just gunned it.
This week on the last thing Finn ever expected to see happen at Taako's kigu party, it's a man fading in and out of skeleton form. ]
2/2
Holy shit. He has no idea what to do with this.
And that can only mean it's time to get argumentative for reasons yet unknown. Finn's taken one step back on reflex, but he immediately steps forward again. ]
You really need to warn somebody before you do that, Kravitz!
no subject
Oh - I - sorry..?
[ He holds his hands up in what he hopes is still a universal 'please calm down' gesture. ]
no subject
He's still a little on his "what the fuck" train of thought, but the apology, however confused it may be, does pull him back around enough to take it down a few notches. ]
Right, [ he ends up saying, on the belated side. ] Okay. I mean- I'm sorry, too? For the-- for yelling. Just haven't seen that before.
[ This is Taako's house and Taako's friend and a lot of what happens here, he tends to assume is a deliberate move to get reactions at default. ]
I think I see what you mean about it being on the nose.
