Quantum Entanglement [Open]
who: Ava & Whomever
what: Quantum Tentacle event stuff
when: Feb 10th - 15th
where: Around the City
warnings: This log is late as Hell, weird science, possible torture references, who knows, I'll update if needed.
ooc- so there were only like six people interested in the event and I've been having health issues so this is way late, but I figure anyone that's interested with stuff just with their cr has hopefully put up their own logs. I'm including a top level for science stuff if anyone wants a place to thread that out, but elsewise... go forth and be merry. belatedly. OOC plotting post is here for anyone that wants a refresher.
I. Arrival [Mingle?]
[February 10th is when it arrives. It's a strange device of multiple parts, tech systems contained in a central unit, and then incorporated into tendrils that extend out from the central device that comes with a main switch. Once it's arranged in the right configuration, it almost looks like the HYDRA seal, but that's a revelation that doesn't come immediately.
Prometheus Labs are the first to volunteer to investigate the technology, and the device changes hands, although those that are interested are directed in their direction to be involved in discovering just what this device supposedly does. Everything goes fine until it doesn't. Until on the 12th, there's a brief surge of blue light as the device comes to life, activating in a way that doesn't seem to be to normal specifications given the odd metallic growl it makes. Something happens, although no one knows quite what at first, but then it settles down into a quiet hum, seeming more content. But then the reports of strange events start to roll in...
Just what is the device, anyway? Can they make it stop when it seems to have tapped into the energy grid?]
II. Revelations [Semi-Open]
[It takes a while for Ava to put it together, but when she does, she panics. She doesn't run because Riverview is too small for her to feel like it makes a difference. She just hides, more than anything. Unsure where to go, what to do about it. She feels too vulnerable. Scared to approach the subject, to admit just how bad this is, and what it could do for her in particular. Control, information transfer. She doesn't trust that this wont go bad.
There are some people that she arranges to talk to, because she doesn't quite know how to deal. She maybe hasn't taken Bucky's advise about making sure people are aware, that there will be someone who notices if things go wrong to heart as much as she should. But this changes things, once she puts the pieces together. Normally, she might arrange for talking in a coffee shop, but it's too many people so these are conversations had alone on rooftops with a bottle of good wine, or a few cans of beer, depending on who it is. It helps her nerves, or so she likes to pretend, anyway.]
Drink?
III. Valentine [Open]
[It's never been a holiday she's particularly invested in, or anything like that. But it's-- something. A break. She still hasn't quite committed to the idea of risking breaking into Prometheus Labs to try and stop the machine before Pierce figures out the full extent of what it's capable of. There's risk to it, too. It feels like a trap, like the cisterns in Istanbul, like something she'll end up choking on. She can't even really focus; she keeps fidgeting with it, trying to
She tries to keep her head up, and just let herself do something dumb and easy, like buying chocolates for people. That should be simple enough. But the streets and busy and everything feels a little crushing. Her powers are always a little touchy, but even since whatever happened happened, she feels wound a little bit too tight. Like breathing wrong will make her explode.
But she has a date with Peter that they arranged before this mess, and she actually... wants to do that. To not be the weird girl with glowing eyes, and just do something normal for a while. Okay, so, maybe he's not the best choice for normal, but it's close enough. She's so lost in her thoughts she ends up bumping into someone and she curses under her breath, trying to both steady her composure and the other person's balance. Thankfully she's quick on her toes, graceful and easy once she's paying attention.]
Hey, uhm- you okay?
IV. Resolution [Open]
[She plays the angles, talks to Tony about codes and genetic patterns, about 2s and 6s and ballet dances. It how they'd fixed it the first time, except as she tells him- she's not entirely sure it had really fixed things, It was how she got her powers, and given the explosion it might have been the less explosive but it still hadn't been good.
She ends up gearing up late night, early morning, rustling up a cup of coffee as she tries to debate just how bad an idea walking in there would be. She has to stop it. Even if she thought that Pierce wouldn't use it, it's still bad, takes away choice, and just on a personal level, it plays hell with her senses. (It's like the rules of the world bend a little more than usual, like she can almost see where the corners peel away.) Her fingertips glitter for a moment with blue light in that space between night and morning.
But being close to it has always been bad for her. And she can't help but think about the others, all flat eyes and guns in their hands. Can't help thinking about the explosion that had ripped Alexei from her. She curses under her breath. Whatever. Time to do the dumb thing. Hope it helps more people than it hurts.]
V. Wildcard [Open]
[Hit me up with whatever! Text her, hit her up for conversations about the tech or just about anything else. If you want to get linked to her, I'd love that, hit me up, etc. Also: does anyone want to go with her to shut down the tech?]

[Text] About Feb 13th
He orders duplicates made of every part of the structure possible. Blue-prints made, 3d models. It will likely be destroyed, but he wants a copy to build on.]
Miss Orlova, are you alright? I have reason to believe technology from our world has arrived, and I want to know you are holding up.
no subject
The fact that he's the only one that really puts the pieces together to actually ask if she's alright is why she answers, in the end.]
I'm okay. So far, at least.
It's the OPUS tech, isn't it?
no subject
I've never seen OPUS technology before, but based on the descriptions compared to what appears to be here, I have strong opinions that it is. Is there any safe guards for you?
no subject
For everyone else, it seems to be pretty low level, like an echo. Did you activate it on purpose?
no subject
No, by the time my team was called in, the technology was already active. They have't been able to turn it off, so there is a plan to disassemble it now that I have confirmation on what it is.
no subject
[She knows a few things about the tech. But it's dangerous. Ivan had been too stuck on her and Natasha as his little red-haired scions, but she knows what it can do. She's looked into flat-eyed stares, his army, and known just what her mother's machine was capable of.]

[There's a pause, because that's a dangerous question, and eventually she gives up. It feels like he wins, but she can't stay away when this is on the line, and she dislikes not being able to gauge this face to face.]
Are you in the residential building? I can stop by if you want to talk about the tech.
no subject
I'm just leaving work now, but you are more than welcome to come for a cup of tea in an hour or so.
no subject
[He seems to know she wouldn't have dared to meet him at the labs. Distance might not be a mitigating factor, but she's not that brave. She trusts, in some limited degree, that what he can do to her over tea in the community housing building is not much more grave than what he could do to her if she stayed in her room, and that it is largely limited to what he can say.
She brings a chess set with her. She picked up the travel set at one of the stuff swaps that Riverview is so fond of. She doesn't expect to win, but it seemed like an acceptable sort of pretense. So precisely an hour later she knocks on his door and tries not to look awkward about it.]

However, he changed into comfortable sweatpants and a sweatshirt, brewing up some tea for when she arrived. It was steeping when he heard her knock, and he opened the door to greet her with a warm smile. He pulled the door open and gestured for her to enter his clean and organized abode, tea steaming on the table where there was an obvious spot for a chess board.]
Good evening, Miss Orlova. Please, make yourself at home. Tea should be ready in a minute or two.

He knows Ava doesn't like talking about this stuff, but honestly at this point he's running low on options that don't involve alcohol.]
Hey, so, you've got some experience with having someone else's thoughts in your head, right?

[A pause.]
I guess I should have warned you, but it took me a bit to put together myself.
no subject
Well he's very probably clinically depressed and very definitely an alcoholic, so you know, that's fun.
I take it you know what this is?
v
However to do that he needs as much information as possible, starting with whoever is on the other side of this. It'd be so much easier if he could pick up them thinking 'my name is--' but things would never be that easy. He takes note of every little detail he can in case this is the final piece that solves the mystery.]
