[ He was ready. The club was just about to open for the night, and he was ready. Otabek felt like a different person when he was here, in the club, working. There was something about the air. He attributed it to way he could see the people dancing to songs and a playlist he had put together. It was different from being on the ice. When he was on the ice, all eyes were on him, but he could never return the favor of seeing how people responded until after the performance was over. He wouldn't know how well he did until he got the score. When he was performing, the response was immediate. He could see how people would respond to him as he worked, and if he didn't feel like the response was positive, he could shift the way things were going immediately. He would stand there, headphones on, moving about his booth as he watched the people enjoy themselves on the floor.
He like the way he made other people feel good. He liked when people enjoyed the things he put together. He was passionate about the shows he did both here and on the ice. He always put his best foot forward. He worked hard. It was why even here, for Element, he had put together a new set. Among the songs were a couple of new remixes he had pulled together quickly. Despite the speed of it, Otabek would never put together a half-assed piece of work and expect others to enjoy it.
Never.
As soon as the club opened, Otabek got started. A laptop had helped him organize a playlist, but after it was set up, he spent most of his time in front of the DJ deck, moving back and forth, and letting his fingers slide over the equipment with a clearly practiced ease. As the night progressed, the room got warm. Maybe it was the bodies moving about.
He shed his jacket he had worn, discarding it to the side, leaving him in a tank and black jeans. His typical attire. He always anticipated it getting too warm, but he knew that if he didn't wear his jacket, it'd be cold when he left, with just his luck.
Then, as the night came to an end for him, he shifted away from the DJ deck and set up a few remaining songs to play automatically. He cleaned up his space, and made his way from behind the booth. People were starting to make their way out of the club, leaving the dance floor. As the club emptied, he made his way outside, slipping on his jacket again, and making his way to his motorcycle (the one, he fondly remembered, Yuri had handed him the keys to). ]

[It's not that she had doubts about that part, but it's confirmed right now, as far as 2B is concerned.]
Although there is nothing that prevents androids from dancing as well. I suppose some of them do it... I just have not encountered it.

[ People can be fickle like that, Otabek knows. But he has seen regulars at his events and when he DJs at clubs, he recognizes some of the same people. He had noticed many people here often were repeat visitors at the club. Some faces he really started to depend on being there. Without ever speaking or really knowing them, he had been figuring out what they liked. ]
There's a lot of other dance that people use to express themselves. Not just in clubs.
[ Spoken from experience. ]

[Just a wild guess - or is it more than that?]
no subject
[ Of course - he could talk for hours about that alone, as well. But he opts not to. ]
And ballet, ballroom, jazz. Things like that.
no subject
[She sounds pretty satisfied with her guess. Apparently 2B tends to interact with people who like ice skating in general.]
Could it be what you told me earlier? The thing you want to practice, but currently cannot.
no subject
[ It's been weird for him, though. He's always made his money via competition and sponsorship, and sometimes he DJed. Now he was DJing full time. But he was comfortable. ]
I did it professionally.
no subject
[2B leans against the wall, arms crossed. She looks up in recollection.]
I don't know details of how this works out. Before I found myself here, doing something professionally wasn't an option.
You just did what you were told to.

[ Sure he had coaches and choreographers, and he worked with people on music. He listened to the ISU. But it wasn't like they told him to be a figure skater. He had that choice when he was young. And if he no longer wanted to do it at any time, he still had the choice. ]
You can do what you want here.
[ It seems...simple, but nice. ]
no subject
[2B's statement is simple as well, but there is audible earnestness in it.]
It is not that this happened without reason. The circumstances were simply severe enough, doing the task assigned to you was a matter of survival.
It can't be helped.
no subject
What do you want to do here?
no subject
I... can't be sure. Not completely.
[She's hesitant to speak but from all the people in Riverview, he's amongst the few she got to know best. If she can't tell him, then whom? No one?]
I am just glad that I can do something good for humans who live here. Also, that I have an opportunity to better understand everything they do, their activities, and enjoyments. I never expected to have a chance like this.
It is... a good feeling.
no subject
[ And not just for the other people. But he thinks maybe it's good that she likes to learn about people. He knows that they could be complicated. He had a hard time understanding a lot of them, too. ]
That's good, though, 2B. There's a lot like that here that you can do.
[ He's not good at a lot of the fighting and exploring things, but he is glad there are people who can. ]
no subject
[Not an android of many words, 2B just nods. Though suddenly she looks down, troubled. It's as if the hesitation doubled down on her.]
There is, however, one more thing. I thing you should know.
no subject
Yeah?
no subject
[Her gaze is still low, and her words are heavy. How 2B wishes she didn't have to say them. But these are the facts, and Otabek deserves honesty.]
I must return home. Since there's such an option, and I was cooperating with the authorities to make it a reality, then eventually I will.
We may not have many opportunities to meet like this in the future.
no subject
[ He's glad that he's started to become friends with her, really. It doesn't surprise him as much as it probably should, though. He reaches for the laptop, and closes it as the last song plays. ]
It doesn't surprise me.
[ He doesn't sound disappointed or sad, either. ]
I think a lot of people here want to go back.
no subject
[Even if the place they are in is Riverview. Compared to what 2B is used to, it's wonderful. She wonders how do others' worlds compare to it.]
I will miss this place.
no subject
I'll miss you here.
[ Because even if they really just met, it's been nice to share in his interests with someone other than Yuri. He loves his friend, truly, but he's always had a hard time befriending people like this. ]
But I understand things needing to be done.
no subject
[A short but meaningful reply. It's not all 2B has to say though.]
I am glad we could have met each other.
Until that time comes, then... I will gladly experience more of whatever music you have to offer.
no subject
[ He's beyond happy to share whatever music he has. So, since she's heard a few, he feels comfortable asking. ]
Do you prefer the slower pieces? Or the faster ones?
[ He's totally not going to put together a playlist for his friend. No way. ]
no subject
[In general, people asked 2B what she prefers so rarely until recently.]
In that case... slower ones.
The lack of haste is relaxing.
no subject
[ He tilts his head, looking towards her. He shrugs his shoulders, sighing quietly. ]
I think your opinion matters here.
[ He gets back to work unplugging some things around where he's set up. ]
I want to have you listen to something you'll like.
no subject
It's this type that I judged to be most to my liking though.
[How do you even calculate what your musical preferences are? Like so many other things, it's not easily quantifiable. 2B shrugs as well, in response to her own thoughts as much as to what Otabek said.]
I think I've taken enough of your time already.
[He still has to close the place up for the night. This doesn't escape her.]
no subject
You're welcome here anytime.
[ And he means it, too. Otabek never says something he doesn't mean. He wants her to come visit him because she seems to like music. His music, even. ]
But you're right. I need to pack up.
[ He's already starting to get his things together. ]
But come back sometime.
