[ A tiny part of Jim feels a little bad for doing this to Cassian, but also— it's for a good cause, when he thinks about it. He has no hidden intentions towards Jyn. She's his friend and that's the way he wants to keep it, no more no less.

He calls it a date, but really, it'll be more like an outing between two friends. He's not going to make that clear now because there is a purpose to all this, and Cassian's not going to Get It if Jim tells him he's not actually into Jyn at all and that he's not going to pursue anything with her.

He's right where Jim hoped he'd be— on edge, miserable and so jealous that it practically oozes out of him. Good, maybe like this he'll stop being a blind idiot and see what's so obvious to literally anyone who looks at the two of them.
