When Val disappeared after going to investigate the portal, Ed has his theories about what that meant. She wouldn't have gone home without saying goodbye, and she wouldn't have left to go anywhere else without telling him, and there was only one way to go through that portal by accident. Whether she left intentionally or not wasn't the issue, the issue was that she had left without notice and that meant that he had to deal with that reality in the here and now.
Which, for Ed, meant needing some time alone to think. He would have followed after her if he thought the portal would lead him to where she went, but he knew it wasn't as easy as that. If the direction of the portal had changed since she disappeared by the time he got to it, there was nothing to gain by going through. Still, he knew the only way he was going to get a break from everyone was by going away for awhile.
So, that's what he did. Packed up, said his goodbyes to everyone as if he was actually leaving and disappeared the only way he could while still trapped on this moon. By disconnecting his device and hiding out beyond the wall. There were a few places he'd stop during his time absent from living within the city limits, if someone really wanted to find him they probably could. Alternately, if someone was the type to wander around outside of the wall they could also bump into him by chance either when he's not hiding out in a building or by exploring the building he happens to be hiding out in.
By the time the monthly holiday had begun Ed had already disappeared, but it wasn't hard to follow along with what was going on in the city. Does this bring me joy? was hardly a concept he wanted to think about at this point, which only made it all the more appropriate that he wasn't around to deal with things when this tradition occurred. Of course, he couldn't stay away forever, there were obligations to take care of for one thing, he just needed time to clear his head and work out what to do moving forward. If there was one thing Ed was a firm believer in, it was doing what had to be done to keep going.
So, after about a week of solitude, one Edward Elric was back on the roster with a new username, lacking the memories of someone that had been there all along.

The flat was still mostly bare aside from all the books around and well... a LOT of guns in multiple places, and Jason's closet open from his brothers stealing his clothes while he wasn't around. He moved over and held the book out to Ed, his eyes taking him in looking for injuries from behind his own sunglasses, where his bruise was clearly visible under the shades.
"No problem, Ed. It's what friends do. I'm sure you know already I looked through it." He was tired enough that he didn't notice obvious signs, so Ed lucked out on that one. "Same shit, new day, nothing really chances. I've been working on the adoption and getting the house under a mortgage so we can still do the renovations." Which was Jason for he wanted to buy that house so Jon could keep part of his parents around. "So how was the trip? Handle everything?"

At the question he just waved a hand, typical dismissive Elric behavior. "Yeah, I got things sorted. Now I need to take care of this and I'll be all set." He had to get a new network name and a few other things handled but he wasn't worried about it. Getting this far was the hard part as far as he as concerned.
"Back to bar fights? I'm not going to come back to broken glass again, am I?" No, he's never letting him live that down. Not as long as he remembered it anyway, so this would probably be the last jab about it.

It's Jason Todd its always a chance.
"Good to know, and I'm guessing I never saw you, correct? Meeting here without Al attached to your side makes me think this is a need to know meeting?" He asked as he sprawled a bit more on the chair, rubbing his temple some. "Yes, back to bar fights, but I haven't seen Frank lately so, I doubt I'll be hurting like that again." He lied, but he lied so well when he actually wanted to... it also helped that he had been in a bar brawl recently. "and that shit happened once, let it go." okay twice...

Golden eyes narrowed, fixing Jason a glare as if he was insulted by the implication there. "Don't even think about it, Todd. You're not dying any time soon, I need someone around who gets what the hell is going on."
"I said goodbye before hopping into the portal a week ago, that's all you know." Leave it to Jason to make shit awkward though, the rest earned him a scowl. "We're not attached at the hip, idiot. It's need to know, and no one needs to know. Especially not Al, he can't find out I lied to him."
"Consider it let go when I forget it." He retorted, which might imply never with Jason not knowing what Ed had planned. That didn't matter. "When I come back, things will be different."

"Sorry, Ed, I've been there and done that, and event even get a t-shirt. I don't plan to double dip, but you never know with my life style, if I die, throw me in the Lazarus pit, if its that important." He didn't have much self esteem despite his bravado.
"Ed, I'm half asleep. I never saw you here, shit I've been asleep since I got here at 9am. I've been alone all day." Bats are at least good at secrets. Usually but this one he'd take to his second grave.
"When you come back? Actually, don't tell me. Let me solve this one myself. Either way, call if you need me alright?"
no subject
"Sounds like a great idea, Jason. Just point me to the nearest Lazarus Pit." That reply is practically bathing in sarcasm, as if Jay had forgotten they weren't where he was from and Lazarus Pits might be in short supply. Regardless of what Ed might have felt about using one should it actually be an option, he was just going to focus on the stupidity of that idea instead. "How about you just don't die in the first place." Naturally, Ed would act like it was that easy.
"I have a few errands to run, that's all. It's not going to be some big mystery, you'll figure it out soon enough." Considering he doesn't know what'll happen after he's done Ed isn't sure he should agree to something like that, but why risk making anyone worry? "Yeah, sure. I'll call you." If he even remembers who you are, Jay.

"Hey people have shit from home appear all the time. It could happen. its unlikely but it could." He shrugged amused, despite how tired he was, reaching up he messed with his hair some. "No promises, I don't make promises I can't keep."
"Good, and good luck Ed. God knows you need it." He grumbled moving his hands once he got his hair back in some form of order then crossed his arms to lean back in the chair more.
no subject
"Yeah, unlikely but could sounds about right." Ed would much rather not deal with that thought, nothing had come from home and the less that showed up from any world he was familiar with at this point, the better. At the last part though, he just rolled his eyes. "That makes one of us." He might still be bitter about some things.
He sighed when Jay said he was going to need luck, he had no idea. "You're right, I will. There's too much I'm capable of screwing up when I get back."
