When Val disappeared after going to investigate the portal, Ed has his theories about what that meant. She wouldn't have gone home without saying goodbye, and she wouldn't have left to go anywhere else without telling him, and there was only one way to go through that portal by accident. Whether she left intentionally or not wasn't the issue, the issue was that she had left without notice and that meant that he had to deal with that reality in the here and now.

Which, for Ed, meant needing some time alone to think. He would have followed after her if he thought the portal would lead him to where she went, but he knew it wasn't as easy as that. If the direction of the portal had changed since she disappeared by the time he got to it, there was nothing to gain by going through. Still, he knew the only way he was going to get a break from everyone was by going away for awhile.

So, that's what he did. Packed up, said his goodbyes to everyone as if he was actually leaving and disappeared the only way he could while still trapped on this moon. By disconnecting his device and hiding out beyond the wall. There were a few places he'd stop during his time absent from living within the city limits, if someone really wanted to find him they probably could. Alternately, if someone was the type to wander around outside of the wall they could also bump into him by chance either when he's not hiding out in a building or by exploring the building he happens to be hiding out in.

By the time the monthly holiday had begun Ed had already disappeared, but it wasn't hard to follow along with what was going on in the city. Does this bring me joy? was hardly a concept he wanted to think about at this point, which only made it all the more appropriate that he wasn't around to deal with things when this tradition occurred. Of course, he couldn't stay away forever, there were obligations to take care of for one thing, he just needed time to clear his head and work out what to do moving forward. If there was one thing Ed was a firm believer in, it was doing what had to be done to keep going.

So, after about a week of solitude, one Edward Elric was back on the roster with a new username, lacking the memories of someone that had been there all along.

[She's welcome to stalk for all the meals, there's a reason Ed keeps a walk-in fridge and freezer combo at the apartment. Everyone was welcome, once they got to know him at least. He'd also have exactly zero issue splitting a rabbit with her if she brought one back on another day, Ed was well versed in eating rabbit as a kid - and compared to what he ate in Purg it was a luxury.

He certainly won't mind the company, he might have gotten used to dealing alone but that didn't mean he enjoyed it. Someone to keep him company that isn't going to pry about why he's hidden away like this? He wouldn't complain, that was for sure.

Once she's finished he'll grab the bowl to put it in the kitchen for washing later. Then return to flip the meat on the fire to keep it cooking evenly. He doesn't want to keep someone's pet hostage, but he also doesn't want to turn her out if she has no shelter. Still, there wasn't exactly the easiest way to communicate since she couldn't talk.]

[Freya licks Ed's hand as he reaches for the bowl. It's her own innocent way of saying thank you for the meal and that she'll be back for more at a later date.

She raises to her feet when he returns from putting away the bowl, stretching her front legs out in front of her before ruffling her fur. She pads over to Ed and presses her side against his before stepping into his lap to lay across his legs.

It is cuddle time.]

[He can't help the smile at the friendly lick, still wondering idly about how much she actually understood in all of this and how much he was imagining.

When she climbs into his lap he blinks in surprise, but she was basically a dog so this wasn't the slightest bit unusual, right? If Ed was used to anything it was dogs jumping on him, and even if she was a wolf it was clear that she was perfectly comfortable around people for whatever reason. He should be used to that sort of thing after all the differences he'd learned about being on these worlds that pull people in from the multiverse.]

Easy-

[Honestly, this could have gone much worse - he is reminded of Alexander and his behavior, and naturally not only the time they'd shared back home but when he arrived in Purgatorium with Nina as well - and there's plenty of time before his food will be ready. So, he's just going to hesitantly pet the wolf as she drapes across his legs, assuming that's what she's going after.]

[Freya lays across his legs, resting her chin on his thigh as the Ed's meal sizzles and cooks. Her tail slowly sways from side to side before it finds a comfortable position and remains there. Her body temperature is several degrees above a normal person or wolf making Freya the perfect heater though Ed might start getting too hot given that he's sitting next to a fire.

A soft growling-like purr rumbles through the white wolfs frame as Ed's hand runs along her back.

This is totally what Freya wants and not that he's petting her she doesn't want to get up.]
