February Open Post
who: Noctis and YOU
what: Open prompts
when: Throughout February
where: Various
warnings: Updated as needed
a. community housing (i)
(Ignis and Gladio are gone. For the first time since he can remember, Noctis is alone in the literal sense. He's felt it before, with a busy father and deceased mother, but there was always someone around to care for him. He's an adult now without the same need for a guardian, but he can't say he doesn't miss them. Prompto, Luna, his father; they've been on his mind, but he had Gladio and Ignis nearby.
Now he doesn't. It kind of sucks.
He'll be out and about, somewhat distracted. He's alone and without the purpose his title gave him. Noctis has to find a new direction.
And he will.)
b. community housing (ii) - kitchen
(They didn't leave him empty-handed. Among other things, Gladio had tried to help Noctis have the tools he needed, including the tools that would keep him from starving. He's in the shared kitchen in the beginning of the month, tablet in hand. During the very early portion of the month, he's doing well enough on simpler recipes, cooking eggs and the like with almost-practiced skills. However, more complicated or larger dishes surprise him with how much concurrent cooking must be done, how much prep should happen beforehand. These dishes turn out more questionable.
Bad.
However, toward the middle of the month, even these start to turn out a little better as Noctis practices with the help of the tablet. It's not the quality he's accustomed to, but it's good he have that kind of independence.)
c. around town
(Groceries, feed for his new Chocobo friend, toiletries, selling his catches to the market; Noctis spends a lot of time out. Some of it is for exploration reasons so he isn't so lost in this still-new town. Some of it is out of necessity as he gathers the day to day things he may need. He can be found in the market, stocking up on food; he can be seen selling his fish to the fish supplier; looking at possible rental locations that allowed him to keep his Chocobo nearby. Certain times, he's so lost in thought that he isn't watching his path closely enough. Sometimes, he's helping someone with an errand or two after seeing them in obvious distress. Somehow, the prince is very easily turned into an errand boy.
He can also be found in the arcade on a regular basis.)
d. wildcard.

Most important, he'd never cooked without the traditional tools. Link has a lot he can teach the cooking-challenged Noctis.)
I'm coming.
(The prince appears on the other side of the door, cooking tablet tucked under his arm.)
You're Link?
no subject
[Link extended his free hand.]
And you must be Noctis. Nice to meet you.
[He has a genuinely friendly smile on his face. Whether it's from making a new friend or from the prospect of food in the near future is anyone's guess. He came hungry.
But he always is.]no subject
After a quick handshake, Noctis motions for Link to follow him to the communal kitchen. During their walk, he holds up the tablet.)
This has a lot of recipes and instructions. It explains a lot of dishes pretty well. The guy who left it was a pretty good cook.
('Pretty good' only be Noctis' standards. For anyone else, Ignis is a world-class chef. The prince, however, is accustomed to only the best food.)
no subject
That should help a lot then. What did you wanna make?
[Link places the satchel on the counter and moves closer to Noctis to get a better view of what's on the tablet. He's flexible, and if something sounds new or strange to him, he's still more than willing to try it.]
no subject
(Many of the foods Noctis is familiar with involved mostly meat or bread. Obviously, the breads remain the same, but the meats have changed to better fit those found in their new home.)
Ignis' tablet has the different names. (Of course he would be able to translate it over to the local offerings.) I want to try the meat-and-beet bouillon, but with fewer vegetables. It keeps tasting weird.
no subject
Sounds good. Do you have all the ingredients we need for it?
[Link likes vegetables, but he won't mind leaving them out too much. He's flexible and certainly not picky about his food.]
no subject
(Swiping through the tablet, he stops when the picture of the proposed meal is on the screen.)
I put everything but the vegetables in there, but it's turning out wrong. It's way too salty, even if I don't add salt.
no subject
[Of course, he's going to want a taste of the meat too, but he thinks that's understood without him having to say anything.
Link looks over the recipe and starts gathering what they'll need, ingredients and proper tools alike.]
Why don't you like vegetables anyway? [Haven't your parents taught you to eat them by now?]
no subject
(Noctis is willing to share the meat, but the vegetables are the archenemy of his taste buds. He can also help with gathering their supplies as he has tried to make this a few times by now. Aside from subtraction of vegetables, he hasn't done horribly.)
Why? (He glances over his shoulder to Link.) How should I know? Everybody has foods they like and they don't like.
(Poor Papa Regis attempted to teach him, but Noctis has always been stubborn.)
no subject
Link glanced at the recipe and grabbed the vegetables that were listed and began washing them before preparing them for the meal.]
Since you like meat so much, you can prepare that.
[Why put effort into something he wasn't going to eat anyway?]
Welcome back
Looking at the food in front of him, he grabs the different cuts and places them on the board. He's become skilled enough in this. It isn't that Noctis is completely inept as he's very particular in the foods he likes and tried to cater meals to that. )
Where did you learn to cook?
Thanks~ Sorry it took so long
I'm not sure. I guess I taught myself some of it. There were a few things I had to learn the hard way.
[Link resumed his chopping and glanced over to see what Noctis was doing with the meat. He nodded in approval and continued with his work.]
Did this Ignis person you mentioned cook for you a lot?
No worries
Sometimes...not as much since I moved out, but he brings desserts and makes dinner when he stops over sometimes. When he doesn't, I was mostly living on ramen, but I learned how to make a few things. He just left all of this behind when he took off, and I wanted to learn how to use it.
(The tablet is of special interest.)
It's not going so well that I'll forget how I learned.
(Link must have taken to cooking naturally.)
no subject
It's not easy living on one kind of food. Once you get the basics down, it's not hard. Then it's just figuring out what flavors you like together.
[Link looked up at Noctis' comment.]
It's less that it went well and more that I uh...lost my memory.
no subject
Sorry.
(That would be horrible, forgetting everything. Maybe it would help with the bad memories, but Noctis doubts the amnesia was so selective.)
But you remembered your skills?
