With the prospect of more power in the near future, the Government of Riverview is looking for multiple teams of people to take a survey of the wall surrounding the Abandoned City and note all structural damage and areas where the integrity of the wall is compromised. The objective is to note the location and nature of any structural damage or interference with the tech components (laser emitters, etc.) that is compromising the integrity of the outer wall.
The team assembled by Jim Kirk will head out on the shuttle, making the trip at least far quicker, although long stretches of the wall are done by foot, in smaller groups or pairs. No one is advised to be out there on their own. Everyone will be given a handheld scanning device to study the wall, and a device similar to a tablet where they can store all the data, complete with detailed instructions on how to use both. The shuttle will be available to pick people up and drop them off at different points of the wall as needed, to try and make the trip as quick as possible.
[ ooc: this will work as a mingle log, so everyone is free to write up their own top levels and/or tag around as much as they like. ]

scouting.
[probably because it has back-up. cassian squints, watching a second bird land neatly on the other side of the wall while a third does the same on a broken patch, talons curling around the vine that split it open.]
[he lifts his blaster through the underbrush he's tucked behind and shoots one of the monsters on the wall; it dies with a squawk that startles the other two, leaving jyn with a good moment to strike.]
no subject
drive it directly into one of the bird's eyes. the sound it makes is horrifying, but jyn doesn't have time to notice because now it's mad at her and it jerks away from her, ripping the truncheon out of her grasp. sticky purple blood sprays across jyn's face and chest as it rears up, trying to swat her with its wings, making her scramble back. away from the one truncheon she has left that isn't stuck in its face.
in hindsight, she should not have lingered with the truncheon in its eye. ]
no subject
[it's broken quickly, if only because her truncheon is lost after she blinds one of the birds. he's pretty sure she's just going to straight up punch it if he doesn't interfere, and that is just another leap into the realm of bad ideas.]
[there's a very quiet, almost exasperated sigh of jyn, before he slips out from the underbrush and shoots again. his target is the blinded bird, but it's moving so fast and angrily while it stalks after jyn that it takes cassian three shots before he pierces the neck to kill it, the other two merely hitting its wings and pissing it off further.]
no subject
Stop making it angry!
[ before he finally makes the shot and it keels over in front of her with a heavy thud that seems to echo in her chest. she scrambles back a few more feet, just in case, taking a moment to catch her breath even though the last angry bird is still perched half behind the wall, watching her with beady eyes.
she feels a little bit like they're having a staring contest as she creeps forward to retrieve her truncheons, both of them, the one pulling free from the eye with a sticky squelching sound that makes even her cast iron stomach roll over in disgust. not enough to keep her from wiping off the purplish blood on her pants however. ]
I don't think this one is going to come out willingly, Captain.

[cassian catches sight of the third bird lurking even before jyn points it out, his weapon trained on it as she scurries in carefully to grab her truncheons. he can't hit it through the trees and wall, but he keeps it aimed in its direction anyway.]
We'll have to draw it out ourselves. [his brain runs quickly through a few scenarios.] Two choices.
I shoot at it and get its attention. Once it comes at me, you strike it from behind - but it leaves the risk of the bird flying too high to reach. The second is you approach the wall to spook it out leaving me to kill it, but you will likely need to get close. [he doesn't like that one as much.]

[he's still counting it for 'jyn as the distraction.' gonna be argumentative like her this time. he tilts his head to the side.] I will walk that way and draw it's stare so you can get to the wall unnoticed.
[at least he agreed with the plan.]
no subject
Alright, let's go.
[ and she will dart off to do just that, waiting for cassian to get its attention before sprinting for the wall and squeezing through the crack with only a scrape on her hip that she ignores. it's going to be harder with the two of them now separated, but. it'll be fine. ]

[cassian moves broadly, with wide and loud steps. it's very unusual, given he's used to trying to go unnoticed, but it works. the bird peers out higher from the wall, honed in on cassian's movements. he lifts his unarmed arm to make himself bigger, but it's working, keeping the creature's attention wholly to let jyn do her thing.]
no subject
it's hard to tell when she's parallel to cassian so she's mostly just eyeballing it. when she decides that she's in the correct position she... basically whoops at top volume and makes a run for the bird, pinging some shots at the ground behind it, hoping it'll hop through the fence on instinct. ]
Incoming!

[at least step one works. she startles the bird, and it squawks as it leaps out into the open. it sort of hovers in place, looking for the noise and trying to look at cassian at the same time. given he's the clearer target, the creature soars forward towards him.]
[obviously an incoming, but he doesn't have time to scoff at her warning. instead he just fires at it. one shot, again through the neck, and it's a lot easier to aim when he's not worried about hitting jyn in the process. it tumbles out of the air and hits the ground with a thud.]
no subject
Hate to be on the business end of that.
[ it's hard to make light of cassian's assassin abilities considering he was tasked with murdering her father at one point in time, but look at jyn trying regardless. ]
no subject
[definitely dead.]
You never will be. [he keeps it pointed downward, but shifts his gaze and cases the area around them. listening, watching.]
There could be others on the way, if the noise drew any attention.
no subject
Maybe they will turn around when they see their dead friends, [ she offers, tucking the feathers in her bag as she straightens up, moving back over to cassian. ]
Do you want to wait or keep going?
no subject
I don't know enough about them to tell how they react to dead friends. There is no point in playing the waiting game. You have their blood on you, if they want revenge they will find us anyway. Maybe we can have plausible deniability if we are far from the scene of the crime.
[there's probably more, regardless of whether they exist separately or connected to this trio, but it feels like a waste of time to stay put.]
