With the prospect of more power in the near future, the Government of Riverview is looking for multiple teams of people to take a survey of the wall surrounding the Abandoned City and note all structural damage and areas where the integrity of the wall is compromised. The objective is to note the location and nature of any structural damage or interference with the tech components (laser emitters, etc.) that is compromising the integrity of the outer wall.

The team assembled by Jim Kirk will head out on the shuttle, making the trip at least far quicker, although long stretches of the wall are done by foot, in smaller groups or pairs. No one is advised to be out there on their own. Everyone will be given a handheld scanning device to study the wall, and a device similar to a tablet where they can store all the data, complete with detailed instructions on how to use both. The shuttle will be available to pick people up and drop them off at different points of the wall as needed, to try and make the trip as quick as possible.

Stop whining, [ jyn complains, mouth turning down in a frown as her grip tightens on his hand held between them. in all honesty, cassian isn't whining or even complaining, he'd simply said she didn't need to worry about his hand and jyn decided that was whining.

she probably doesn't need to worry about his hand, but that doesn't mean she's going to let get away with not changing his bandage. they don't have bacta here, they have to be smart until they get back to the city so she is going to keep his hand clean and dry until then, carefully unwinding the bandage so she can put a new one on. ]

[she gets a very flat and unimpressed Look.]

I am not whining. [he is far more concerned about how his back is going to be after this whole mission than he is about his hand, but he doesn't fight her manhandling it to change the bandage. it's a lot easier when someone else does it, if only because it's tighter that way. so really, she's giving him extra reason not to worry about it!] You are whining more than I am.

[ jyn makes a face, focusing on tending to his hand in silence because screw you, andor. she's not particularly gentle.

yes, that is all it took to make her mad. ]

[he flinches a little at how roughly she's handling him, but he refuses to say anything or do more than grit his teeth.]

I did not get hurt on purpose, Jyn.

[stop being mad at him!! for such a dumb injury!!]

[ she mumbles something that sounds like "and you said i was being reckless" under her breath. her doctoring does gentle some, but only because she's rifling around in the tiny medical kit for the antiseptic wipes that sting like hell so it is going to even out in the end. ]

[he frowns and it's very tempting to yank his hand away, especially since she seems spitefully determined to hurt his hand more, albeit in less bloody ways.]

I can get someone else to do this. [since she is so irritated and put upon!! not that he would, but he could.] I was not being reckless either.

[ antiseptic wipe on his hand! how dare he threaten to go to another nurse with better bedside manner, what an affront. ]

You got hurt, Cassian! What if someone wasn't there to have your back, it'd be more than your kriffin' hand next time.

[ that is why she is unhappy. what if he'd gotten badly injured, what if she wasn't there, what if jim couldn't get them back to the city in time, what if what if what if. ]

[he flinches again, hissing in displeasure at how she wipes it down. it's still hardly the worst he's ever suffered, but he's annoyed enough to overreact a little bit.]

[he gets it though, once he realizes. he knows he would probably be grumpy if she'd gotten hurt too, even if he doesn't think he would resort to bad bedside manner.]

You are allowed to be worried. I should not have said otherwise. [his voice is calmer, with an apology in the tone.] But can you please stop taking it out on my injured hand?

It's antiseptic, it would sting no matter what. [ she's still snapping at him, but her grip loosens, cradling his hand instead of clutching it, mouth still set in an unhappy frown. ]

You could have gotten badly hurt.

[of course it's going to sting, but he's relieved when it seems like she's going to Chill on the Handling, however unhappy she still looks.]

[it doesn't surprise him at this point that jyn cares about his well-being, but it still kind of surprises him that anyone would in general. cassian goes quiet for a bit, watching the way her hands cradle his.]

I'm sorry. [there.] You always have my back. It did not occur to me that I should have been worried.

[ oh

jyn's eyes flicker up to his face, feeling something warm and heavy settle almost uncomfortably in her belly. her frown doesn't smooth out. that's too much faith in her, what if she doesn't live up? it already feels like her fault in the first place that he'd gotten hurt. ]

I had your back on Scarif, too. [ and. they. died. ]

[he meets her gaze, but the look on her face makes him feel like he's said the wrong thing.]

That was different. [they were probably never going to make it out of scarif. they made it to the end, together, and that's probably all he could have asked for.] We come out beyond the wall all the time. We are always at risk of getting hurt, and I am not trying to get hurt.

I didn't mean - [to put any kind of pressure on her? he just... they're a team.]

It is not your fault I am hurt right now. But I am sorry for worrying you.

[ it is her fault though, she was too slow in getting to him, she was being reckless, now he has an injurrd hand on top of his back -- because she has not forgotten his back, it makes her pine for the thought of bacta tanks and salves and gels. the medicine here is obviously spectacular but it is back in the city and they are not.

he is right, they are always at risk of being hurt beyond the walk but it is always jyn with the scrapes and cuts and bruises, it's different when he is the one getting hurt and she is getting a taste of his worry. fuck that. ]

Don't apologize. It means I'll have to apologize retroactively. [ the grumpiness in her voice doesn't quite dispel the anxious heart of the matter ]

[he knows his hand will be fine, but he also knows he would be panicking in a similar vein had she gotten hurt, albeit a lot more internally. it's not her fault, he refuses to acknowledge that.]

Then don't make me feel like I need to apologize. We signed up for this job, and it does not come without danger. [her anxiousness doesn't escape him though, and he understands it. he reaches out with his free and uninjured hand, settling it on her leg.]

You worry me, I worry you. That's how it works now. [when did that happen. when did he reach the point where he could actually admit to that.] Can we do that without snapping at each other over it? Or you will end up owing me your own apologies.

[ that's how it works now. it's so simple, it's so cut and dry. it brushes away some of the cold jyn was feeling that had nothing to do with the weather, seeming to radiate out from his hand like he can push warmth back into her.

she doesn't verbally agree with her because she already showed weakness once today and that was beyond enough, but her head jerks in a nod. fine, alright, she will try not to snap at him. she refuses to apologize, that is the reason behind her agreement, of course. ]

You need to shave. [ changes the subject entirely as she finally starts applying the dressing. ]

[he can see it in her posture that she's slowly and silently accepting his words, however reluctantly. he doesn't smile, but his face softens. good, they're on the same page again here. they're both still going to worry, but maybe they won't get so grumpy about it anymore.]

[he lifts his hand away from her leg to brush his fingers across his face. the stubble is a little longer than he likes to keep it, but he hasn't shaved in a few days. it's a lot easier in the bathroom at home, and he only has one good hand now.]

It might have to wait. [he wiggles his fingers in the hand she's wrapping up. in a day or two it'll be okay.]

[ jyn's nose wrinkles slightly, mouth slanting down in a thoughtful frown while she continues to carefully bandage his hand. ]

I can do it.

[ it opens up questions jyn isn't sure she wants to answer but. ]

[her offer catches him off guard. she's getting too good at that, and he's not sure how he feels about it either. it's not bad? maybe it just means he can let his guard down around her that still strikes him odd.]

Have you done it before?

[shaved a face, he means. he assumes she's shaved in some capacity? but also maybe not??]

[ tying off the dressing and tucking the knot neatly away gives her time to debate brushing it off, but eventually she shrugs. ]

I used to shave Saw's head. I was better at it than he was.

[ she looks up, a little defiant. a familiar look that comes with a lot of jyn's tidbits of her past. like she's trying to overpower it before it can be used as a weapon against her. ]

I won't go down to the skin anyway. [ she likes his stubble, it's familiar. ]

[the image of a tiny jyn shaving saw gerrera's head is almost adorable? even if he knows the brutality of which both are capable. it's telling about how saw felt.]

[he could trust her to it. he trusts her with so much else; it's literally pressing a razor to his skin which should send off so many warning bells with the vulnerability, but saw trusted her. cassian trusts her more. he hates letting his beard get too long as much as he hates being totally clean shaven.]

[this is stupid.]

Okay. As long as you leave some of it.

[ now she does want to shave it all off, but not enough to put the effort into doing that. ]

Of course, Captain.

[ keep that scruff. ]

[he half smiles.]

Too much gone feels too imperial. [a beat.] Do you want to just... do it now?

[since she is already apparently in a take-care-of-him mood.]

[ jyn feels some inexplicable rush of heat and she finally releases his freshly dressed hand, setting it back on his knee. ]

Sure. [ a beat, looking thoughtful. ] How often do you shave?

[he will not admit it feels better to have his hand wrapped. but he will mutter a very quiet thank you, even if she has terrible bedside manner.]

Every two or three days. It depends. [a pause.] I brought some soap and a razor in case I had the time out here. We just need some water.

It should be purified by now.

[ not that they particularly need clean water for shaving but it would probably be better than not. ] I'll check.

[ and she unfolds from her spot to do just that, fiddling with the jug as she inspects the water. ]
