my dance card has no lateness
Being the nearest homing beacon of seething distaste is... less unexpected.
Better a mannequin than him, better him than some bystander who doesn't know what they're in a room with. ]
Yeah. Very.
[ The moon's one big fancy prison of its own, in a lot of ways. But at least it's normally got enough pacing room to avoid crossing paths with whatever bits of the First Order get spat out onto it. Keep your head down, move forward, keep an eye out. ]
Nicer than my last cage. Any nicer than yours?

This is my first. [ Unless one counts the moon, which Ren does, to a degree. But he'd rather sneer in the face of the defected Stormtrooper, as if the relative freedom he's known (farcical as it was when Snoke was alive) makes him superior to the other man.
As if it doesn't make him all the more monstrous, to have had more choices in his life. ]
But tell me about your last cage. What was it? The beaten-up junker that holds what remains of the Resistance?

Finn pushes off continuing to question his luck for later. If there is a later. He pushes thinking about that off for later, too. ]
The big cave with the blast door before that, actually.
[ The Falcon is a lot of things. A little junky. Overcrowded, now. Infested with Porgs for reasons Finn never had time to ask about. But it associates so hand in hand with freedom, with escape, that it's hard to call even the most crowded tin can a cage. ]
You might remember it. You were the ones who cracked it open.

He'd rather not think about his feelings in that moment. It was the last memory the canister returned to him, and it's been hanging over him ever since. ]
I remember. You scattered like muckrats. How long will that work out for you? Running, hiding, instead of fighting?

If we're scattered, we're scattered. If we have to rebuild, we'll rebuild. From the bottom up. Because we left that planet alive, and that means it's not over. Not by a long shot.
