what: storytelling and a display of powers
when: after this
where: housing and then a burger joint.
warnings: probably none
[ lucy mills, an inquisitive youngster, reminds nico a lot of his former self. before maine, before learning he's a demigod, before meeting percy jackson. before his sister had died. she's bright, curious, and asks a lot of questions, much like he had when he'd discovered that the gods are real. it's a little heartbreaking in a way, reminded of how cheerful he used to be back then, but then bianca had died and he'd been led into darkness. it still clings to him even now, but never being the type to do evil, he sees only the goodness in lucy. and as a result, feels like talking to her wouldn't be such a bad thing.
he grabs his wallet and coat, checking to make sure his sword at his hip is secure, and then steps into the nearest shadow. when he appears, it's right next to the elevator of the housing. then, looking around for a young girl, he waits for her to show up. ]

She grabbed her jean jacket and rushed out the door, making sure to grab her book bag and keys. Emma knew what she was doing and Lucy had her phone on her. She couldn’t believe she was meeting a demigod! In the flesh! And there were other gods too! Soon she’d make a network post about it but for now, she was excited about meeting Nico.
By the time she gets to elevator she sees him. ]
Hey! [ She’s grinning and looking up at him cause everyone is taller than her. ]
Nice to meet you in person, Nico.
no subject
of course he doesn't doubt a world where fairy tales exist. after all, he comes from one where the gods of greece still reign on high, even if most mortals are unaware. he himself could've come right out of a storybook, though it would undoubtedly be a dark one. ]
Nice to meet you too. Ready to go? You're going to have to hold on to me tightly, or I'll lose you in the shadows.
no subject
Yup! I have my phone on me in case Rmma needs to get a hold of me.
[ Emma, Grandma, they’re one in the same to her. There’s an eager nod of her head, moving up to him and reached for his hand. ]
Like this? Or would it be better to hug you? [ She doesn’t want to cling to him like a toddler. She was bigger and better than that! ]
no subject
But hold tight. It'll feel like a rush. I've been told it feels a little like being on a roller coaster, but since I've never been on one, I couldn't say.
no subject
I haven’t been on one either, there aren’t any carnivals or theme parks near Hyperion Heights.
[ She follows his lead, going towards a shadow and clings tightly, and...closes her eyes. Okay this is a bit scary but she has faith nothing will happen!
Hopefully. ]
no subject
You can open your eyes now.
no subject
Whoa.
[They are outside a diner and not at the communal housing.]
So...before this place, could you go anywhere in the world? Like different countries or continents? [So cool!]
no subject
Yep. I once hauled a forty foot statue across the world, along with two other passengers. Naturally, I had to make stops, but still. When I was first learning, I jumped all the way to China from New York and passed out for a week.
no subject
Whoa and no one noticed anything at all? [ Super cool! And he went from New York to China? ]
That’s an impressive first try! I mean, it’s not like anyone could do that. I hope you didn’t pass out on a person or anything.
[ They go into the diner and she follows his lead to where he wants to sit, she doesn’t care. ]
I haven’t traveled before, but my dad has. The stories he told were pretty cool.
no subject
once they're inside, he slides into a booth and nods at her, signalling she can order whatever she wants. ]
No, I passed out in a rice patty. Fortunately, a Chinese demigod helped me out. [ a smirk. ]
Is your father a writer or something?
no subject
Lucy moves to sit across from him, that way t doesn't look like they're waiting for anyone else.]
Oh wow. I didn't even of the other gods that could be there. [Every country had their own myths and stuff, so it shouldn't be surprising that there were other Gods around...but it still is.] How are the gods still alive? Like, they just do, or something else?
[As for her dad....well...] Something like that. He's an Author, meaning he's supposed to witness things and write about them.
no subject
The gods tend to get around. There are more than just the Greek gods, so there's plenty of demigods around who are children of other gods. As for why the gods are still alive, I think it comes down to because people are still aware of them. They have influence in everything and because people know and believe them, they are sustained. That's not to say a god can't die, though. I've seen it happen.
[ their food arrives and nico begins munching on the fries that came with his burger. ]
So... it's a magical thing? When you say "author", I suppose that's some kind of title.
no subject
Well, they're still talked about, and there's still a lot of their stories floating around. So, that would make sense. I just thought they were that powerful that they could live through anything.
[Lucy had a milkshake and some friends of her own. Sugar and stories, what more could a kid want?]
It's..magical, yeah. It's a title that didn't really have too many perks to it. The way my dad explained it to me was that, an Author is there to document the stories as they unfold. So more like an observer...and those stories are written down in a book and in some realms that book is just a book and its nothing, when in reality they were things that did happen.
[She has a few fries of her own.]
So...what else is real in your world? Vampires? Werewolves?
no subject
[ as he's speaking, he continues to nom on his fries. ]
Sounds pretty cool, this "author" business. And yeah, those things are real in my world, but they're not like you'd probably imagine.
[ he shrugs off his jacket to reval long scars on his biceps. gouges left behind by lycoan's werewolves. he points to these with a fry before continuing. ]
These I got from werewolves, but they were Greek werewolves, so not like in movies. I battled them in Portugal.
no subject
No, I don't know what catalyst means.
[And thankfully, Nico explains it.]
I thought...the Roman and Greek Gods were the same, just under different names? [More information to take in, and more research for her to do. She takes a sip of her milkshake and shrugs her shoulders a little.]
It is and it isn't. Could you imagine being able to write down or witness everyone else's story but not have one of your own? It would get pretty boring.
[And now she's outright staring, looking at the scars on his biceps. She thought Ivar was fierce and all, BUT NICO FOUGHT AGAINST WEREWOLVES.]
Whoa. [Never mind why or how Greek werewolves were in Portugal and why they were fighting. This is COOL.] And vampires? Please, please don't tell me they sparkle.
no subject
[ smirks a little, reminded of his friend reyna. she's pretty cool, in nico's opinion and would undoubtedly like lucy as much as he's beginning to. ]
Authors sound important though. There are many stories that need to be told. Like did you know that Achilles and Patroclus were more than just friends?
[ he won't go into detail about that; she's a little young. ]
Anyway, vampires are real, but we call them empousai. They don't sparkle, but they have flaming hair. They're all female too.
no subject
So, were you there then? When all of that happened? [Because if he had, wow...he looks super young for being hundreds of years old.]
They are important, but my Dad wanted to do more, and he met my mom, Cinderella, and they had me. So, it wasn't a bad choice.
[There's a shake of her head.] Achilles...he's the one who had a weak ankle? No! It was his heel, right? And I don't know who Patroclus is.
[But what did he mean by 'they were a little more than friends?' Were they siblings?]
All female? [Nico, you are blowing her tiny mind!] Why don't they depict that in the movies then? That would be so much better! But...I guess someone wanted to sell more books to teenagers. [There's a shrug of her shoulders, she didn't get it, really.] Did you know dwafs hatch out of eggs? Like that's how they're born.
no subject
Achilles and Patroclus were great warriors in the Trojan war. They were also a couple, if you understand. They were both killed, though, before the war ended.
[ a light shrug and he picks up his burger, taking a huge bite before nodding. ]
I don't know why they don't depict them in movies that way; you may be right. And I didn't know that about dwarfs.
no subject
Oh, so they were together...okay. [A shrug of her shoulders because it doesn't phase her, really.]
Yeah, most people don't really concern themselves with how mythical creatures are born. They usually just appear and it's self explanatory.
no subject
There's a lot that gets missed in history books, to be frank. But it's not the fault of the authors. Usually, the Mist is behind it.
Most of the mythical creatures I've encountered, especially the monsters, tend to come from Tartarus. Scary place. I don't recommend asking about it.
no subject
Then..maybe I could borrow one of the books from the library and you can tell me what the author missed?
[Okay, she won't ask about Tartarus, but she'll write down the name and look it up on her own time.]
I've only encountered a dwarf, a fairy....and people who wield magic. I can't call them wizards or sorcerers or anything, cause..it doesn't fit with them. Like, they're more than just their magic--except the Dark One. He's nothing but dark magic.
i am the slowest of slow
[ there's not a whole ton and they're scant on information, but one does what one can. ]
Dark magic is tricky. It can be used for good or for evil. A lot of people think my powers are dark, and they are. But I like to think I use them for good purposes. Besides, sometimes you have to do a little evil for the greater good.
pft, it happens
[Maybe she should introduce him to Victor. He was a smart and knowledgeable guy. Assuming, of course, that Nico was into science and other educational things.
As for Dark Magic...that's sort of harder to explain.]
It's..more complex...I think? The Dark One is more of the embodiment of dark magic, seen as evil--and that type of magic comes with a price. There was another who thought that a little bit of evil had to be done for the greater good...but...it didn't always work out well for them. Like, the Dark One was more for themselves, it was a curse in it's own way.
But your powers...I don't think they're dark, I think they're pretty cool, and the whole shadow traveling thing is helpful--especially if you're running late.
