warnings: None, will update as needed.
A) Studying and no play makes Jill a dull girl: OTA
Ever since Rey was given a small book on the Force by Ren, she had been pouring over its pages. To anyone else, being given a book by an enemy (could he really be called that at this point?) would scream 'trap.' Ren had only done this because he was trying to get on her good side, but he wasn't. From how he acted when he visited her at the hospital, he came with neutral (or dare she say good?) intentions. She had been pouring over the book itself, a simple notebook with no title or name of an author to give away who wrote it or what it was about. She handled each page with care, reading and rereading what she could about the Force; what it was, and how it was used. This had been more information than she could've expected from him...and he didn't once ask her to join his side, or let him be her teacher.
To put into practice what Rey was learning, some people might find her meditating out in the park. She was trying to connect to the Force, to feel its presence and open herself more to it. Maybe even try to use the Force in a subtle way to make small pebbles move across the dirt. Rey wasn't ready to let others know what she was doing, or what she could do. There's something of a peaceful look on her face as she meditates. Her stuff is nearby and the notebook is settled on her lap in case she needs it.
B) Sleepover: For Marco and those who live in Marco's place before the glow ball.
Rey had come to Marco's place to hang out with him to see if they could actually sleep with the new incense she purchased. Maybe a peaceful night's sleep would be within reach. It would be needed as tomorrow they would be shopping for a dress for her and the stupid ball. It would be a big step outside of her comfort zone, but it was good to try new things, right? Besides, Rey had been wanting to spend more time with Marco since they became friends, especially after learning how much common they had.
She came with over a small bag, the strap hung over her shoulder. A change of clothes for tomorrow, her pajamas, Luke's lightsaber safely tucked at the bottom of her bag, the incense itself, and her comm device in case anyone needed to get a hold of her. She was used to sleeping in the same room as Poe and Finn, so this would be an interesting change of pace.
C) Shop till you drop: Lola.
"Is this really necessary?" Rey asked as she waited for Lola to finish getting ready. They had agreed to meet at Marco's place before Lola took Rey out to look for new clothes for her--really, she continued to insist that she needed more than one outfit, which sounded so weird to Rey. However, during the ball Lola had a few points: such as needing more pairs of shoes for different things and having spares wouldn't be bad. They had bonded during the night where they had make up one their faces and pretty gowns. And Lola convinced Rey to expand her wardrobe.
Well...hopefully it wouldn't take long. Rey wasn't a picky person. Her clothing tastes were more on the simple side, and if it was comfortable, then all the better. Surely, this wouldn't take too long...and surely, this wouldn't be a bad experience, right?
D) Was it really a dream: Kylo Ren
Laughter. Smiles. Jokes and teasings that made her heart race. Bubbles that tickled her nose, dark eyes that she couldn't look away from, and a kiss to soft skin. The images and memories of the night after were all a blur in Rey's mind. Her head was aching, a side effect from drinking too much and not taking in enough water. She was in a bed that didn't feel like her own, and a body that was too tall to be Finn...or Marco's. There was the faint scent of cologne that made her feel warm, and made her hug the body next to her. She shifted slightly and heard the faint rustle of material, her dress. Yes, she was still in her dress, but her hair was down now, fanned out over the pillow and brushed over her shoulders.
Opening her eyes, she could faintly make out the person who she was holding. It came back to her then, the jokes and quips she exchanged with him. How he looked at her and didn't automatically tell her how different she looked. Surprise nor shock came over his face, and he spoke to her...like they were friends. Rey should be retreating from him, pulling away and making her way back to the floor and room she shared with Poe and Finn...but instead she closed her eyes again and murmured, "Go back to sleep, Ben."

"I'm going to guess if I asked if you liked floral prints you're going to make a face at me?" Lola picks up her purse and heads toward the door, "And I figured boots or sneakers would be more you. Sneakers are practical, and boots can look really good but you'll be happy with how good they are for kicking people really hard."
Lola tries to play to her audience.
no subject
And too late, Rey was already making a face at Lola when she mentioned floral patterns.
"Nothing with a pattern. I don't want to look like some overgrown flower or...tree." She quieted down for a moment, recalling her...behavior with Ren when they left the ball. How she called him a tree and that his arms were branches...
But back to the topic at hand.
"I know what boots are, and yes they're good for kicking someone. Sneakers? I've never heard of them, but you said they're practical so I'll give it a shot."
no subject
Lola's pace is brisk, she wants to get things going before Rey tries to escape. "Oh, sneakers are meant for running, less support and less durable than boots but really comfortable for wandering around town."
no subject
"Fine..." she huffed, continuing to follow the petite girl.
"Oh...okay, then I might try sneakers." Being comfortable was fine, and if they were great for running even better..but boots would probably be the best out of the two.
no subject
"You might want a pair just for working out, I mean you obviously do and having a workout outfit would be good because your other clothes get less dirty." Lola had obviously high hopes as she lead the way to the first store.
no subject
"I just remove my vest and the arm sleeves, and that's it. That's all there is." So, yes, she does wash a lot of her clothes over and over again, but hey! It's comfy! At least she's getting a lot of use out of them.
They went into a shop and Rey was already starting to feel uncomfortable. A lot of different styles and too many choices...and heaven help her. May Lola go easy on her.
no subject
Don't mind Lola she's going to poke at the fabric to see how horrifying the texture is from all of Rey's mishandling of clothes.
Fortunately, or maybe not, in the shop Lola's got her hands full. She's practically got a second sight for clothes moving from one rack to the next grabbing a few items. Occasionally holding them up in front of Rey, then either putting them back or effortlessly draping them over her arm. She's got shirts, blouses, jackets, hoodies, pants, shorts, a couple sports bras, and gloves. She is, mostly, sticking to Rey's prescribed list... except a few garments are in pinks and purples just to see what happens. No patterns, but every so often the item will have a single flower embroidered into the collars or sleeves. Nothing too ostentatious.
Proving that anything is a skill with enough practice.
She does at one point hold up a skirt but her smirk is so prominent it is clear she's teasing and puts the item back almost immediately.
no subject
Rey rolled her eyes. "Yes, I spend a lot of time washing this because it's comfortable." And she knows how to properly care for her garments, thank you very much. She's had to do that all her life, and really, the fact she has water practically whenever she wants is a true gift.
Seeing all those clothes in Lola's hands is scary. How quickly was she able to get all that stuff together, and secondly, did she already figure out Rey's size? Was shopping this tiny blue haired woman's super power? It seems like by the time Lola has the things she wants Rey to try on, she has a mountain of clothes. Lola can't expect Rey to try on all of that....right?
"Oh no, don't you dare." She's glaring, although it's a weak glare considering Lola is smirking and knows better than to put her in a pink skirt. A store attendant has already approached Lola inquiring about a dressing room. It's all set for Rey to try on clothes.
"Do you have any idea how many items you grabbed? We're going to be here for at least an hour."
no subject
It was probably a terrible bone chilling sight, that Lola is on a first name basis with the employee and the pair were catching up for a few moments before Rey asserted her concerns about time. Which gained Rey an effortless dismissive eyeroll, "Yes, but you spend an hour or so with me, shopping, you end up with enough clothes you go from laundry every few days to maybe every week, every other week. Plus it lets you figure out what you like out of all this stuff and then you can just get more of that in other styles or colors as you like."
Lola started sorting through her armload of clothes, which was impressive simply how she could locate and remove garments while not losing control of the piled clothes, starting with a pair of dark blue capris and simple lighter blue blouse without any sleeves. Kicking herself for eyeballing Rey's measurements and not having a measuring tape. "Now are you going to get all weird if I go into the changing room with you? Cause if I go in this can all go much faster."
no subject
Oh gosh, Lola actually thought Rey was going to buy more clothes. Maybe an additional blouse, or a pair of pants, but not too many. Her mind was crunching the numbers already, though she had plenty of money considering she worked full time for the Guard and also part time with Cisco.
"I don't think I'l ever have that much clothing..." To go a week without washing? Or more than that? That....that was ridiculous. She didn't need much!
At Lola's words of wanting to be in the dressing room with her...Rey drew the line in the sand.
"No, I'm going in there by myself." Screw how much time they would save if Lola was there, Rey wanted some privacy, damnit! "Just hand me the clothes you want me to try and I'll go change and be right back out."
no subject
Rey really doesn't understand the horrible mistake she made, telling Lola about going shopping. She's seen only the tip of this iceberg. Worse a line like 'I don't think I'll ever have that much clothing' was practically an invitation for Lola to buy her clothes. Which she would do, happily. To help a friend.
Lola handed Rey the blouse and capris she picked out first, then started sorting the clothes onto a nearby chair into simple, but very stylish ensembles for her to be ready. Even if Rey slowed this down changing by herself Lola would try to keep things going at a pace to keep the older girl from getting too bored. As she didn't seem to get that shopping was suppose to be fun, "So... I know you said there's not a lot of room for fun when survival is so important, but you had to have some stuff you would do that kept you happy and sane, right?"
Look the door is not enough of a deterrent from Lola keeping the conversation going.

The brunette takes the clothes handed to her by Lola and goes into the dressing room. She starts taking off the first layer of her outfit off, and then removes her tunic. She'll keep her bindings on her chest and arms on, thank you very much. Next came her shoes and then her pants, doing her best to get the blouse and capris on. The blouse...she doesn't like the material too much, and the capris feel too tight.
"I had a small computer that I would run flight simulations on, and a small doll from my childhood. That's it." She says simply like it wasn't a big deal, and really it wasn't.
No sooner did she have the items on her that she was quickly getting out of them.
"The blouse doesn't feel right and same with...whatever pants you gave me."

"So... have you explored the billions of different video games you can play here?" Lola wasn't much of a gamer, she played with people that loved it but it wasn't her. She just didn't have the right mindset to enjoy it like Yael or Hunter or their friends at home. And her friends here were a little too... competitive, at gaming.
Lola sighed, she could hear Rey moving which suggested someone was not going to model for her, "If you don't come out so I can see what's wrong I can't make suggestions. Or, describe what's wrong with more detail." Which is why she wanted to come in with Rey, it'd just speed things up. Lola picked out a button up shirt that was in a pale red. Not properly pink by any measure, but light and easy enough to pair. The jeans were gray and meant for a comfortable fit. Which was a shame because it wouldn't show off Rey's legs at all. Lola held them by the door, "Holding the next outfit right by the door for you. So are you the only person from your universe here?"
Lola, at least, was looking away if Rey wanted privacy. Not that Lola understood why.
no subject
Lola never said Rey had to come out and model the clothes! She only said to try them on and do that. Rey did, and she found she didn't like the fabric or anything of the sort--and why were capris so skin tight? Or was the wrong size grabbed? Honestly, the whole thing was complicated with number sizing and then letter sizing.
Rey opened the door a little, grabbing the items that Lola held out for her. Okay, the grey jeans were...nice, but the pale red shirt wasn't something she liked, but whatever, she'd give it a try. The door was soon shut, and Lola could hear Rey changing again.
"No, I'm not the only one. There's a few others; Poe, Finn, and Leia--they're friends and...Ren. It's complicated." An enemy and not really much of one? Rey didn't want to go into the details, not wanting to scare Lola, but if she said not to go near him that could make the blue haired girl panic so....she'll figure it out soon. Clothing on, Rey opened the door a little to show Lola. The grey jeans were an okay fit, comfortable at least, and the button up shirt looked frumpy on Rey. It wasn't really her color.
"Well?" Rey asked, waiting for Lola to do something....or say something.
no subject
"Complicated sounds like gossip." Lola was definitely interested, "Is this something I'd get, dating, awkward ended friendships, childhood friend awkward or something where attempted murder is involved and it's way too weird for me?" Lola's used to being out of her element here, so it's a good thing to check before she steps into an issue she really can't fully grasp without some more context.
Lola took Rey in for a moment and handed her a blouse in green and a pair of sweatpants in a darker green, "The jeans work, the shirt is a little off on the fit, and not really you. What was wrong with the previous items?"
no subject
...And why did she have to bring up Kylo Ren? Right, for Lola's own protection. There's a grumble of a sigh from Rey, trying to figure out what to exactly say without giving away too much. Well..fuck it, might as well be honest.
"He's a pain in the ass, a brat, someone who is powerful and dangerous, and who I see can be...redeemed in some way." And also his lips were soft and he had a sweet smile, but like hell she was going to say that out loud to Lola, or to anyone else. Not when there were other feelings she had to think about and sort through. Just....not right now.
"When I say it's complicate,d it's really complicated." And judging by her hard tone, Lola should probably drop the subject. As for the clothes, Rey took the other items from Lola.
"The blouse didn't feel right, I didn't like the material and the pants--capris you called it, were too tight. Like clinging to my calves," Rey explained before going back into the dressing room to take off what she was wearing and go into the green blouse and green sweatpants. The blouse...was okay, she liked the color of green, and the darker green sweatpants were comfortable. A few minutes later, she was out again to let Lola see the outfit.
"Do I have to wear a blouse? It's too...flowy, but I like the pants and the color."
no subject
Lola listened, watching Rey's expression and her body language, it was a subject Lola would want to get back to but maybe when Rey was a little more comfortable. Like... in her own clothes. And when there's food! But for now, she can tell that needs to be left alone. Just like Lola's thoughts on previous items she handed Rey, Lola kept them in mind but didn't voice them right now.
"You might want to have one. Between what you wore to the festival and what you normally wear there's a middle ground of 'nice' but not flashy where a blouse would work really well. But still give you enough movement if you wanted to pick a fight with anyone." Lola was teasing a little as she looked over Rey's outfit, smoothing a shoulder and studying. Approving of how this looked even if Rey wasn't fully okay with it.
Lola picked up a similarly colored peasant blouse, thicker material, so it'd hang a bit heavier. It had some flowers embroidered on the cuffs but nothing over the top. "Switch that top with this and see if that feels more like you."
no subject
If Lola wanted to know more, she would have to give it time. Things were still out of sorts in her head, forced to think about feelings she hadn't considered before. Things she never thought she would have to consider. Really, the history of it is all complicated, and Lola didn't need to worry herself over it--or get herself placed in danger.
"Uh-huh..." Okay so maybe Lola was starting to pick up on Rey's actual sense of style; clothing that moved with her so she could kick ass if need be. "What makes you think I pick fights?" she teased right back, staying still as Lola examined her, looking over what was right and wrong.
Rey reached out to take the shirt and moved back into the dress room. The flowers embroidered on the cuffs were...okay. But it was too...feminine for her tastes. A hint of more color, sure, but she didn't want flowers or butterflies on her clothes. She soon came back out with the top and shook her head again.
"Still doesn't feel right, and I don't like the sleeves." Too long and she would have to push them up constantly.
no subject
"You don't really do fun, you're all about survival. If I thought that didn't involve fighting I'd be even dumber than I already am," Lola was taking a lot of mental notes to figure out what to change, what to fix. This might require a little more help. Rey's clothes were her's in ways that anything off the shelf wouldn't be.
"I mean, for something to just lounge around at home in it's fine. But yeah I don't really think it suits you. Um... this!" Lola picked at her pile of clothes and grabbed a similar thing, sleeveless but it deep red. There was some gold embroidered patterns on the collar, and it was slightly tighter to not show anything through the arm holes, "I know the color isn't you but I wanna see how you feel about something in the material but without the sleeves."
no subject
Her thoughts drifted back to what Cisco had asked of her. If Marco had a crush on her, or if she thought he did. And really, Rey didn't want to think about it. She even admitted that she didn't want him to have a crush on her. She wouldn't want to put him through that heart break--and why was she thinking about it now? No, those thoughts needed to be shoved into the back of her mind again.
"I fight if someone presents a threat to my friends, I don't go picking around fights for the sheer fun of it." Geez, at least give her some credit, Lola.
"Okay, okay." She took the shirt and went back inside the dressing room, changing quickly and came out. The darker red actually looked good on her. The gold embroidery complimented her skin and hair.
"This...is a bit better. I mean, it's still tight, but I can move my arms more."
no subject
Lola nodded approvingly as she came over, she didn't make much fuss about trying to test the collar and sizing on it if it's sized wrong or just a style Rey isn't used to. "Hmm. I can probably go find something a little bigger. But the fabric isn't a problem?"
"This would be good with... maybe a belt over it to help accent it? The colors are nice, flashier than you usually do." Lola she has one outfit, flashier is everything that isn't a burlap sack. "Have you actually looked at yourself in this yet?"
no subject
"The fabric isn't the problem. It feels a bit confined in..." she gestured to the bust and waist area where it feel a bit more form fitting, but not in the right way. "This area. I do like the dark red though. It's pleasant." And not too faded like that other colored blouse.
"I don't need a belt.." And what did Lola mean by 'accent' it? They're just clothes, they didn't need any further embellishments. There was a shake of Rey's head. No, she hadn't looked at herself yet, and she didn't really need to. The clothes and they were fine. That's all that really mattered.
"Is there something else I should try on next? Or are we done here?" Because the jeans were fine, she could go with that, or something else.
no subject
Which puts Lola conveniently where she can tug and test the fabric around Rey's torso, "I'll ask for this in a size up." It was a good look for her and it'd definitely give her more to wear.
"Rey... you're not a girl that would carry a purse, you'd like a belt to put a bag on since most pants aren't meant for pockets." And it would be stylish and it would be a good thing to make certain looks pop but Lola knows better than to just say that.
Lola pondered over the pile of clothes, thanks to the stuff they've looked at she's eliminated about a quarter of the pile from being good ideas. She grabbed a top in lavender, it was a thicker cotton in a cut closer to a man's dress shirt, but intended for women with a cut meant for a bust to be comfortable. Along with a pair of shorts that came down to the knee. "Try these, after you look at yourself for a moment. Everything you tell me about what you like or hate let's me narrow down the options."
She'll have one of the employees help her remove the items that weren't going to work while Rey was changing. "Rey, wanna next time show me something you like doing?"
no subject
"Welcome..." She can't imagine that's something Lola would be used to hearing. It sort of went unsaid between her, Finn, and Poe. That they would always protect each other. If Lola's world was never in a war, then she wouldn't need to hear such things...but back to focusing on clothes.
"..Okay?" well, then she can try on another top and then maybe move along--or what? What's this about pockets?
"These pants don't have pockets?" That...is ridiculous. "Can't I find pants with more pockets?" Maybe go for the men's pants, she could do that. She didn't know why clothing was sorted by gender, but whatever.
"I'm not going to use a belt to accent this, it doesn't need it. There's no purpose for it." She took the other items from Lola, staring at the lavender top, appreciating the style of it. It looked more comfortable. The shorts..they looked good. Rey started to head back into the changing room. The question asked of her caught her off guard. She hung around the door to the changing room for a moment.
"I could...but I don't think you'd enjoy it very much." Then again, what Rey seemed to 'enjoy' was more work. But...the sentiment was appreciated. "I mostly work on things, or I'll read. That's basically it." As for the outfit itself....Rey closed the door behind her and stared into the mirror.
"The top is a bit tight...but it's nice? More color than I'm used to."
no subject
There is no escaping belts, Rey.
Lola left Rey alone for a little while, get used to seeing herself in something new. Also Lola had an attendant to talk to and remove a large portion of the clothes, and bring back some things a size up. As to Rey's commentary about her look, "Too loose and it's actually harder to move in, I was guessing your size by looking at you. And... if I'm honest, I picked a lot of colorful things just to get you to try them. While I mostly needed different cuts and fabrics to see what you liked."
When you have someone to use as a dress up doll, you make full use of that and have a little fun. "What sorta stuff do you work on? I'm fine with just hanging around and like, while you work on whatever and I cook something?" Lola just likes being around people.
