hide and seek
who: Bucky and OPEN
what: Bucky is being a total hermit, and there's a burglar dog
when: Early January
where: Around Riverview
warnings: None yet, any that crop up will go in the subject lines
[One; Out in the ruins; Open]
[Pierce is here, and that means that Bucky is not.
He's abandoned literally every bolthole that he'd claimed as his own, he's erased his username from the network and dumped his phone - so that any attempt to contact him that way will result in the number not being found - and has gone into as deep a hiding as he can possibly manage. This isn't just paranoia, this is an actual handler in the city and the possibility of everything going very very wrong.
It's been a few weeks now, so anyone that leaves him food semi-regularly might notice that it's not being collected. Anyone that he sometimes stalks, or who stalks him, might notice that he's just not around. But he's definitely not gone back through the portals.
If anyone is truly determined enough to track him down, they might find him hiding out among the ruins.]
[Two; Around Riverview; Open]
[The last thing that Bucky did before he went into hiding was go to reclaim his dog, Sasha, after months of refusing to keep her. He needs her now, and not just for her usual skillset of assisting with traumatised veterans. No, he's got her trained to go and steal food for him.
Whether your character owns a store, is just shopping, or is even at home in their apartment; they might hear a scrabbling noise as a rather large golden retriever noses her way in and starts rooting for food. Or, if she manages to get food, then they could follow her as she runs off with her stolen treats.]
[ooc: I realise this isn't the most interactive of logs (which is why there's the option of chasing the dog), but unfortunately Bucky is in deep hiding at the moment. Anyone is welcome to tag in, though, not just existing CR!]

[If there's any danger that he might get triggered by trying to remove the words, having a handler in the city will make things a whole hell of a lot worse.]
I'm sorry.
no subject
[How exactly he's planning to make sure of that is a different question, but Tony's on a roll.]
You can't just hide out here waiting for something shitty to happen.
no subject
[The mild guilt he felt is fading away pretty damn fast into irritation.]
I'm out here to stop anything shitty from happening.
no subject
[He also hadn't won that particular fight in the long run, but that's not the point. Though it might explain in part why he's arguing so hard for this.]
This is avoidance, plain and simple. If you were so determined to keep anything from happening, you would let me fix it.
no subject
[It's a snarl now, fingers balled into fists at his sides.]
You told me that before, you said it might take trial and error, were you lying then or are you lying now?
no subject
[All Tony can do is gesture sharply and vaguely, staring at Barnes in purest frustration. He just...can't wrap his head around the idea of not reaching for a possible fix. It's probably going to get him into trouble some day. It might be getting him into trouble now.]
But what's the option, seriously? Hide until all of it goes away? It's not going away and it's not that big of a moon. You can't hide forever.
no subject
[It's the most obvious escape method, leave this world altogether. But the fact that he hasn't done it already speaks to how much he doesn't want to. Home is too full of variables, too many people who could be looking for him.
Pierce might be here, but he's just one and he's someone Bucky knows, that's safer than however many faceless HYDRA agents might have escaped it going down back on Earth.]
Why the hell does it matter to you what I do, anyway?
no subject
Would it make you feel better if I said I didn't want you to be a potential danger while you're here?
[It's not entirely true, but it is true enough that they can both run with it if they want to.]
And I told you my opinion on the Winter Solider. Any excuse to get rid of him. [There's the briefest pause before he almost smiles.] It's funny you think I wouldn't just track your ass down at home, too.
no subject
[He remains incognito until someone disguised as him blows apart the UN, and even then it's Steve that tracks him down rather than Stark. He doesn't think Stark has enough interest in him over his other responsibilities to put in the time and effort needed to find him if he really decides to go to ground in a world he knows much better than this one.]
...you told me someone else was involved in this project, I won't do that. I have no way of knowing they're not affiliated with him, and your word isn't enough.
no subject
He flirts for a moment with being offended that Barnes apparently doesn't trust him enough to take him at his word, but honestly it seems like too much trouble for the time being. At least not when that's an easy enough fix.]
Fine. No one else, just me. And you. [He pauses for a second, eyes narrowing.] Do you want me to bring the gear out here? We'll need to find the space for it, but something tells me you'd be good at that.
[And it might make him a bit more comfortable to be on his own turf, so to speak. Tony would much rather have JARVIS' all-seeing eye on the project, but you can't have everything.]
no subject
The sensible thing would be to stay hidden, but Stark is right. Is he going to be able to hide for good? Wouldn't it be safer if this was out of his head? He could confront Pierce properly then, make him pay for what he did. Perhaps revenge isn't the best of motives, mingled in with a genuine desire not to be dangerous any more, but it's what has him nodding his head.]
Okay, I'll try it. Not out here, people might notice you bringing the gear and the armour out here and follow, I'll come to you.
[And he will need the armour.]
But I'm only going to try this if I get your word that if something goes wrong, you'll put me down.
no subject
[He says it with a thin smile, but he's managed to hold his own before. And if they're doing this on Tony's ground, then there's plenty he can set up for. If Tony can't take care of a rampaging Winter Soldier, JARVIS most definitely can.]
But good. You know where to find me. Just give me a heads up first so that I can get everything together.
[Failsafes on top of failsafes. Tony is actually taking this seriously, as much as it might not seem like it.]
no subject
How long do you need to get things together?
[Hours? Weeks? Months?
He's pretty ignorant about this sort of technology and the rate at which Stark can work when ingenuity burns bright.]
no subject
[The tech itself is already there, it's more getting the space prepped. And making sure his backups have backups in the event that something goes catastrophically wrong. Hope for the best, expect the worst.]
And frankly, I have no idea how long this is going to take. We're just gonna have to see how it goes.
no subject
[And by that, he means he'll procrastinate on it for a while and then eventually decide that he should try and trust Stark with it.]
Now go away.
no subject
[Though not without one last roll of his eyes as he turns to head back towards where he parked the armor.
And also not without a parting shot over his shoulder, because god forbid Tony not try to get the last word.]
You're welcome.
