Hello Lucretia! How have you been?
no subject
(She nudges her book aside, switching her pen to her other hand so she can take notes off to the side of where they'll be working.)
Thanks for coming to meet me here. I'm– uh, I'm actually pretty excited, to learn some sign.
no subject
[ Very well since he's all smiles. But his expression only gets brighter as he listens. ]
I can definitely teach you some! Maybe we should start with the alphabet first? At least until other people show up!
[ That is probably the easiest thing to do until more people come for the lessons that he had offered. But one on one sessions tend to have a better impact with people and learning. So maybe just helping Lucretia right now wouldn't be a bad thing. ]
no subject
She pushes the leg of the chair across from her at the table with her foot, to indicate that he should help himself to a seat.)
Okay. I'm ready when you are.
no subject
We'll start with simple things first! [ And here he'll start to sign the first 10 letters of the alphabet, slowly and each one done twice before he moves on to the next one, while he types on his phone. ]
This is the first 10 letters of the alphabet. They're easy to learn and use when you're trying to say simple phrases or sentences. Usually though sign language has it's own signs to convey entire words and meanings instead of having to spell them out with individual letters.
no subject
Sure...
(She repeats the letters back to him, slowly. Then, she tries a word: B... A... and G.) How's that?
no subject
Try to recite the letters back to me. Go as slow as you need to. We'll stick with this for now before we move on to anything else.
no subject
(Whoops, she's already struggling with the next couple after D; they go back and forth like this for a little while until Lucretia has a tenuous grasp over half the alphabet. It will get easier the more she practices. She very much enjoys the motions of the language: it's satisfying, to mirror Shigeru's signs.)
How many signs do you know?
no subject
I know a lot, easily over 100. But I've also been practicing since I was 12 years old and I have a eidetic memory and that helps me a lot. It's hard work, but it's satisfying when you finally get the hang of it.
no subject
Oh, wow.
(She might sound a little... envious??? Lucretia would love to have such a memory. Shigeru's right, it would be insanely helpful.)
Is this a common language where you're from?
no subject
It's not really. People don't...need to use sign language because no one really has deafness or muteness in my world. Unless it's from psychological trauma that can't be healed quickly.
I guess I'm...somewhat of an outcast in these regards.
[ People tended to...treat him differently because he was a mysophobic phrobiest and he couldn't speak. Even his fellow phrobiests thought it strange that he just sort of...stopped really engaging in trying to talk to people back home. It tended to be a rather...lonely sort of existence. But he was fine with that, a lot of people thought he did it for attention or other silly things. It was tiring to deal with so he just closed himself off for a long time to it. ]
A mysophobic phrobiest that can't speak. I am really strange when you think about it. I can't even heal my own problems. [ But, ah, this was a bit dour wasn't it? Shigeru will shake his head and smile a little, it's lacking that usual spark however. ]
Did you want to try the alphabet again? Or maybe we can do something else?
no subject
(How frustrating for him. People don't learn it anyway, out of interest? Out of a desire to talk to somebody who cannot speak? Lucretia isn't sure how she feels about that.)
What does 'phrobiest' mean? (It takes her a moment to sound the word out; she leans forward a little in her chair to squint at it on his screen, at the small and unassuming plain type-face. It's not often she encounters words she doesn't know the meaning of. Hmm.) Does it have something to do with your powers? Are you a healer, Shigeru?
(Oh, but he's changed the subject. He may not wish to talk about it. Lucretia relents immediately, shaking her head.) Never mind. Maybe something... do you have any favourite signs?
no subject
[ Rebuild or breakdown, give or take, his powers were twofold in that he could do both. But he doesn't pursue the subject as he looks down at his phone. Favorite signs? He's never really...given that much thought. ]
I never really...thought about that before. I don't have one exactly. But I guess...maybe- [ He'll sign something there and then. Only with the hand motion there's a 'G' attached to it as well. He looks...embarrassed and kind of flustered when he does it. ]
no subject
(That's so... vague. What exactly does that apply to? Could be everything, when he's put it like that. Lucretia picks up her pen, and writes it down in large, spiraling letters: phrobiest'. When she looks back up, he's signing something to her that she doesn't understand... though she does recognise something that she thinks is a 'G'.
His flustered expression makes her smile curiously.)
What does it mean?
no subject
I can do it for organic and inorganic things. [ But as the next question his fluster has not abated and if anything it's gotten a bit redder. ]
It means sword but...with a 'g' it stands for Genji. Someone I...I really love.
[ a lot. If it's one of his favorite things to sign. But he also likes the motion of the word and fluidity of it. But ah he's so embarrassed to even admit that, look at him, all red as he fiddles with his phone. ]
no subject
Oh– (Lucretia knocks over her water bottle when his eyes turn black, startled by the sudden show of power. She doesn't bother to pick it up. She's watching the pen disintegrate before her eyes very carefully, trying to work out what manner of magic he's using. Nothing she's seen before, unless it's illusions? It does appear to be truly gone, though.
And then it's back again. She whistles, impressed, and reaches out to take the pen from him, turning it slowly over in her hands. Not a copy, or a double. The same pen, by the looks of it.)
Good god damn, (she says, and looks at him, dumbfounded.) And you can do that to– to anything? There aren't limits?
(Yo Shigeru, it's super nice that you have somebody that you love enough to create a unique sign for and Lucretia's happy for you and she's gonna let you finish but magic stuff she doesn't already know about is the best conversation subject of all time.)
no subject
He nods 'yes' as he looks away momentarily to his phone as he types up something. ]
Yes. I can breakdown and rebuild anything organic or inorganic. But it takes a lot of energy to do it to large objects then smaller ones. [ He fiddles with his phone before looking back at her. ]
It's...frightening, isn't it? My powers. I would never use them to hurt or harm anyone though. I mainly use them to help at the hospital rebuilding and getting rid of diseases in people's bodies.
no subject
She usually isn't so trusting. Perhaps her curiousity is helping to balance things out.)
You can break down disease, (she echoes, in awe. That's–) Incredible. I can't think of a better use for such a skill.
It is frightening, in a way, but I... I don't know, I can see so much usefulness in it too.
no subject
You think so? I...I've used it to help cure a lot of people back home and even people here. I can repair people's things that they've broken as well. [ He fiddles with his phone a bit before he continues to type. ]
My powers are a little bit restricted here but I've made do with them either way. They feel less...potent, which is strange, but it just takes me a bit longer to heal and regrow limbs.
no subject
(She can see his apprehension; it makes perfect sense, to be wary with a power such as this. It must be hard, not knowing how people might react to it. Hopefully she's having appropriate reactions!
Speaking of: when he mentions he can regrow limbs, her eyes widen slightly.) Hopefully you don't need to do that often?
