who: Jonathan Kent (
supersweet) and Clark Kent (
signifies)
what: father-son bonding by way of lasers
when: 4/17
where: Abandoned Area
warnings: N/A
After sending the text to his father, Jon zipped down to the abandoned area. One of the great things about super speed was being able to use it and knowing no one could catch him at it. The not-so-great thing was the rubber burn afterwards. Jon blows on them gently, cooling them off. He couldn't hear his father yet but he'll be here soon.
And then what? Jon thought, biting down on his lower lip. Wow him with the powers you can't control? Impress him with the suit you made? He tugs on the cloak. It had been Krypto's before the Eradicator ate him (and then he came back. The Eradicator, like most things in Jon's life, had been deadly and weird). The shirt he bought at a thrift store, carefully saving up money and sneaking off to buy it. Compared to Damian's uniform or even Maya's, Jon just looks like a kid, playing hero.
He leans against a tree, pulling his knees up and tilting his head back at the sky. Up, up and away. Someday.

I . . . want to be like you.

[ There'll be situations where he won't be able to see his son's point of view, like Clark's own father couldn't see his.
Jon knows what the S means more than Clark. He can't be Jon's role model if he hasn't figured anything out. ]
It's okay to want more.
[ Clark has always wanted belonging. It seems to him Jon wants some freedom. ]
no subject
I know what I want. I'm not looking to be just like you. The S will mean something else for me. But . . . [ There's a trace of hesitation but Jon valiantly trudges forward. ]
You're my dad. That makes you the best.

[ Clark is not going to replace anyone. It means a lot to him that Jon would acknowledge an alternate of his father. He's close enough to the real deal for Jon to make no distinction.
Clark hugs him. ]
We'll take it slowly and figure it out together. Lois is better at solving puzzles than I am.
no subject
I'm not a puzzle.
no subject
[ He won't let go. ]
This is a lot, okay? We'll get through it.
no subject
Yes, sir.
[ Truth, justice . . . family. That hadn't changed. That's how Jon knew it'd be okay. ]
no subject
Let's try again.
no subject
I'm ready.

[ Clark reaches out to squeeze Jon's shoulder warmly. ]
One... two... three!

After a few minutes though, it winks out and Jon blinks furiously, on the edge of exhaustion. ]

[ Clark circles the sculpture, marvelling at it. Jon's precise enough with his beams when he can concentrate. ]
My turn?
no subject
[ Jon barely stifles a yawn before his smile turns sheepish. ]
Sorry, sir. I still can't do it for long periods.
no subject
[ His main worry is that Jon's not invulnerable all the time. Someone could take his blood or hurt him physically.
Riverview is safer but Clark still worries. He wonders how Jon's father decided to have him. ]
Count down for me?
no subject
Okay! Get ready, dad.
One . . . two . . . three!
no subject
He stops after he's done the head and shoulders of all the figures they're planning to make. ]
How am I doing so far?
no subject
It looks good, dad. You should keep going.
no subject
Should I switch careers?
no subject
I don't think they pay a lot for ice-carving, dad.
no subject
He continues carving. This time, he stops when he's finished. Sunlight glints off the ice as Clark steps away to examine his handiwork.
This is a soothing ability. He'd like to make more on his own time. ]
How about now?
no subject
Too bad there's no Fortress to keep this in. It'll melt.

[ At his father's blank look, Jon continues. ]
It's where we keep all our Kryptonian stuff. It's up in the Artic.
no subject
It's a real place. ]
What do we have there?
no subject
[ Jon raises his fingers, flicking them one by one. ]
There's Kelex. The Phantom Zone projector. The computers that did the tests on me. Bunch of other old stuff that you store there.
